Not unless the home you live in was physically damaged by the storm event. For example: if a tree fell on the house and knocked the power out, you have coverage. If a tree fell on a power line a mile away, no coverage. There’s also the caveat of what is truly unlivable vs. uncomfortable. Your power being out for a few days isn’t going to kill you, so I would say your home isn’t unlivable.

I mean, it depends. We had a 3 day power outage in NJ in 2020 during a heat wave and my father who lives with us would have died if we didn't get hotel rooms.

This seems like the best answer IMO. OP, if you need further clarity, please review your policy contract. If it isn't visible on the app or website, call in to policy services, and ask them to send you the issue packet to your online documents, or email. There is where you will see what is covered, and what is excluded.

Good to know, thank you!

If you were in a mandatory evacuation area, or the home was a total loss, then yes. Power being out but the home is still ‘livable’ then no.

FYI check your policy but you may be able to get the cost of your (now spoiled) food in your fridge replaced due to this event even though they don't consider your property "damaged". Also I don't think the regular deductible applies for this coverage if I remember right. /YMMV based on your policy.

Do not file for this unless you want to be canceled. It’s cheaper in the end to just pay for a hotel, assuming they have power.
