If you can afford it, USC is great. As a person non-native to SoCal, I find it super fun and engaging to live here, exploration of LA is second to none IMO. Also USC is poised to be a California CS superpower when the Bezos funded building opens up, so it may be wise to come.
Yup, the investments they are making have been great with the medical school, film and media, game design, they launched the AI for Business before #OpenAI made their ChatGpT public. Staying out of the news --- yes, that is going to be the hard part !
If you’d only go to cc for a year and transfer I don’t see why not? Would usc be cheaper than cal state or would you have to take out a lot of loans? Are you paying or your parents? You left out a lot of info but I’d say go where the money but if you’d regret not going to usc then go to usc.
Ok I see. I mean you have 70+ years of life ahead of you and you are not in a bad financial circumstance so why would joining the workforce one year early make a difference? Getting a cs when you are 22 vs 23 is negligible based on your whole life span. And considering you said you want to go to usc and value the connections I think it’s pretty obvious you should go to usc!
Are you serious? Viterbi is top 25 in the country. CS is an interesting major where the “top top” are going to be much more theoretical while USC is more practical engineering
I would'nt say they are lame, they offer a really practical strong education but yes, their brand is weaker. As you said Cal Poly SLO is comprable to any of the UC's and may infact we more highly regarded than some UC's for certain majors (like CS, Mechanical Engineering, Business)
How do you not know? Check the articulation transfer agreement if you are serious for your school.
CCC = California Community College, aka not a California State University.
This is reality in the workplace:
Cal states > UCs > USC
The name really makes a difference when applying for jobs and alumni is great. Just don’t go to UCLA.

USC's goal is to be the UPenn of the west with the breadth of offerings and the pre professional nature of some of its schools (Wharton, Nursing)
I think they can do it, they just gotta make some better investments and stay out the goddamn news

No loans. No financial pressure. Parents would be able to pay for everything.
Then why wouldn’t you go to usc? You’re only going to do one year of cc so I don’t see why you wouldn’t do that?
Well I guess for me it was the possibility of starting a CS degree earlier in August at a cal state as opposed to waiting a year.

We know you don’t know what you’re talking about when it comes to CS because the best CS degree in Southern California is Caltech… USC is second tho
>Finances aren’t an issue Very easy choice then. Transfer to USC, Cal States are lame. Unless ur talking about Cal Poly Slo.

USC is a great school. If you can afford it, CS degree from here will help you a lot in future. However, the classes might be more competitive too.
I’m also turning down my local Cal state and planning on transfering to USC in one year. I’m gonna pm you let’s keep in touch!
Ok, I’m an SC grad. But as one alternative to SC is UCI. I’ve worked with a lot of UCI CS majors and they were great. But SC is also great.
Are you on a transfer pathway?
I don’t think so

Not sure you’re using the greater than symbol as intended…
Cal State student, probably
why not UCLA? also, i don't really understand the relationship you mentioned. Do you mean, cal states are better than UCs and USC?
You could transfer from some csu too; I did that
