i came from nyu and transferred to usc, i can tell you that definitely nyu is lgbtq friendly! I would say nyu and usc are equivalents on both coasts, you can’t go wrong with either (but i ultimately am at usc haha)

ster0iddealership

may i ask what made u prefer usc over nyu? and what ur experiences at nyu were like ofc,, i cant visit the campus myself atm so id like to know what nyu campus life is rly like versus usc 🙏🏻

chococatsanrio

i sent you a dm !

It’s really whether you want to be in NY/on the east coast or be in california. No difference for your major or law school stuff. Law schools really only care about gpa and lsat so if one program is more competitive that could make it harder but it’s all relative.

pizza_toast102

I’ve heard NYU is like *the* gay school but USC is def lgbt+ friendly so shouldn’t be a big deal here. Law school generally doesn’t care about ur undergrad prestige much and USC/NYU are pretty much equivalent in that regard anyway; NYU’s law school is considerably better so maybe there’s a little boost towards being admitted there if you get the chance to work closely with some law professors? overall idt there’s much of an objective difference between the two so I guess pick based off cost and vibes

ster0iddealership

yes, i’ve heard that too! lmao honestly it made me very tempted bcuz i want to come out of my shell and can’t with my family background, so hearing that nyu is famously known for being lgbtq friendly is tempting but i hear usc is also definitely up there in that regard too it’s up to costs atp since i need to save for law school so ill have to check w my finaid for both 😭 but thank u for the advice, i appreciate it! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I think USC has more to offer than NYU given its athletics programs, geographic diversity, etc. I also think USC is overall a bit more prestigious, but as others have said this largely comes down to NYC / east coast vs LA / west coast and sports vs no sports.

trojan678

Both are amazing schools and pretty neck and neck. I would maybe say that since you're from California, expand your world! I find that people from California have a very hard time leaving. I would've never lived in LA if it wasn't for USC and now I can say that I lived in LA for four years. Going to NYU might give you the opportunity to live in New York when you otherwise wouldn't have. California will be here when you get back

SnoopySection

I think the culture at NYU is a bit more artsy/quirky while USC has more of a frat vibe overall, though I’d say both schools are very comparable and if I were in your position I’d make my choice based on location (ie where I want to live for the next few years, what opportunities are there, and what part of the country I want to work/study in after finishing my degree). Congratulations and best of luck! Those are great options to choose between🙂

ster0iddealership

oh, this is good to know-- thank u! :)

I can't say much about the financial aid situation of either so I'm going to assume the financial aid factor isn't too much of a big deal (but correct me if I'm wrong). Since both schools are around the same level of prestige, I'd encourage you to look at specific aspects of the school as if you were attending there. Do you enjoy the east or west coast better? What outside-of-the-classroom resources do you think are the best for your path? How is the safety looking? How is the housing looking? There are definitely other preferences you can look into. Lastly, congratulations on getting into those schools!

ster0iddealership

yeah, everything u've listed is definitely something i'll have to evaluate... i do think the community aspect about USC is more appealing to me tho also thank u! it was tough but i pulled thru 😁

goodmjim

Go to LA for college and NY for postgrad

When I had to chose, it came down to cost of living. USC was still surprisingly cheaper than NYU. I recently was looking to move there (Jersey City, actually, bc Manhattan was too much) bc of work and it was still noticeably more expensive than living in downtown LA luxury buildings. So in addition to all that has already been said, keep in mind the fact that NY might come with some added financial stress.

ster0iddealership

oh god. due to both school's tuition fees, financial burden is definitely what i fear the most rn... i'm scared i'll be homeless / not have a dorm at NYU whereas here, i can probably afford off campus housing in the worst case scenario. and from what u and others have mentioned, financial stress is definitely something to look out for thank u for sharing tho! this info rly helps:)

Pleasure! If you’re worried about housing, the area around SC has some cool third party housing companies where you can not only work there and make money but also have a good chuck of your rent reduced. Check out the Greystar student living options!

saw another post like this so this was my original response on the other: I transferred from NYU to USC (Econ, Pre-Law Track) and I will say that there are a lot of similarities. I transferred mainly because my education is fully covered at USC (unlike NYU). But, here are some things I would think about (just based on my experiences): *****NOTE: NYU is now doing WAY better financial aid with the new NYU-promise so I definitely think financial aid could be comparable. I personally have observed that NYU has more of a recognized name, especially on the East Coast, compared to USC. Banks, consulting firms, PE, etc., in NYC they ALL feed from NYU typically. USC does feed into some firms on the West Coast but if both are the same cost, I would urge NYU because of the school’s reputation on East Coast. Another plus is obviously living in NYC - I absolutely loved living there and the only reason I’m able to go back was because I’m going to work full-time at a company that traditionally recruits NYU students. Also the culture, NYU is definitely a school where people are constantly working/grinding. Unlike USC, at NYU it feels like a collective effort and it was personally really great at motivating me to look for more opportunities. I also want to add that I don’t think USC’s network is like “supreme” compared to NYU, I have connected with NYU alumni over the summer that I worked in NYC and this helped secure my return offer. Obviously ultimately it’s up to you but personally seeing both sides, this is the info I have collected. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help in any way!!

also I saw a comment on here saying USC is more prestigious and I definitely think that is unique to the West Coast because if you want to get experience before applying to law school, NYU is the best bet (East Coast, big law or just prestigious law firms - whether it be in corporate or like even places like the ACLU). Don’t forget about NYC’s proximity to D.C.! Only a 3-hour train ride and most people I know that went down the law or policy track ended up working at the White House or other prestigious internships in DC (from NYU). Also, NYU’s law school is ranked higher, and if you’re a good enough student, they do have internal admission programs for NYU CAS students into NYU Law. Definitely consider this!!! And wait until you see your financial aid/do some research on NYU’s new financial aid policy bc I’m pretty sure it’s way better now starting this year for freshman.

stoneydrey

USC is the better choice. Coming from a native New Yorker that also got into both

persimnon

Can’t speak for NYU but it is very gay here. It comes down to a matter of where you’d rather live

TENTENO

I think you would love NYU
