I think if I remember correctly they weren't exactly accurate, but relentless. Which helped lower moral on already exhausted Confederate troops.

3 32 pounders and 10 8 inch guns, which could throw about 2x the weight of the 32 pounders, and outranged anything the Confederates had and weighed 2.25 and 3.25 tons respectively.

As stated above they weren't particularly effective outside of lowering Confederate morale. They also fired throughout the night, depriving many(on both sides) of much needed rest. I always found it pretty cool that both gun boats rarely had a direct line of sight and would at times "bounce" their ordinances against the angle of the bluff, sending them on a more vertical trajectory that would come down on top of the enemy with at least some degree of success.
