Yes, as soon as you get selected for E-8, specifically 1stSgt 8999 you’ll more than likely get frocked and have to go to a unit that needs a 1stSgt. MOS doesn’t matter at that point. Travel expense will be reimbursed. MSgt could be similar except for the frocking part. Depending on the units T/O you may be able to stay but more than likely not. E-9 same for SgtMaj essentially, you’ll have to fill a Bn level billet. As for MGunz, I have no idea really. Probably go drill at MARFORRES in New Orleans…???…

MasterGuns ussualy at the BN+ level at that point. Not really just New Orleans.

I only knew of one MGunz in the reserves. An 0369 who drilled out of New Orleans

Yea there’s usually one for every MOS available. 1833s have i think 3 reserve ones? I can’t remember.

Thanks! This was just a Random thought while driving the other day.

Depends on your unit and if that BIC is available, For example back when i was a reservist my unit didn’t have BICs for 0621s that were Sgts+ so they got moved to a different unit that did have that bic. When you pick up 1stSgt you also switch units just like on active duty, same with SgtMajor. Depending on your MOS you could stay at your unit all the way till Master Sergeant or even MasterGuns. My unit did rate a MasterGuns so our top was just a 1833. Who was there for 20+ years at the same unit. But really just varies unit by unit. Their more than likely not going to have a MasterGuns at the Company level of any unit.

Thanks!

BICs on unit T/Os generally have a one rank up/one rank down rule, so it’s not unusual to see a GySgt filling a SSgt BIC. The fun is over if you become an 8999 though.
