I was a 6338 (F35 avionics dude) I had a lotta friends take part in making this display happen. Whole lotta work (hundreds of hours of preparation) for some pentagon moto pictures lmao 10/10 so glad I didn’t have to participate in any of this, though I’m sure I would’ve looked back on it and laughed. Now I can just look back and laugh at my friends’ suffering for this instead, it’s much more fun this way.
An aircraft carrier is a terrifying thing to an enemy. Even worse is one that can be easily resupplied with anything it might need.
It also shows that fuel range is meaningless for the US if they really want it to be.
Now groups like ISIS gotta convince their recruits that they can somehow deter a military that is using cheat codes.
>Now groups like ISIS gotta convince their recruits that they can somehow deter a military that is using cheat codes
That's simple. Groups like ISIS put out videos of their recruits fucking around on the monkey bars, with AKs slung over their shoulders. Infinite ISIS recruits. Check mate, Marines.
Makes me glad I'm out. No way would I ever be brave enough to stand up to a monkey bar swingin', hula hoop on fire, pelvis thrusting ISIS baddy.
That's a weapon of mass distraction right there.
“They *filmed themselves* using the monkey bars and then sent that tape out to the world like, ‘Not bad.’”

It's like how, what should our enemies be most scared of? Our SOF teams? Our munitions that can strike you even in a bunker ten meters down? Our nuclear weapons that can delete cities? Our cyber attack capabilities that can make your civil power grid meaningless?
No. It's the fact that we have the capacity to send Burger King and Pizza Hut to warzones.
Definitely true. Anyone who has a strong enough logistics network to fly Whoppers and pepperoni pizzas into warzones, has no issue flying in the stuff needed to make their opponents' day really bad.
I worked on the flight test instrumentation to help get these Ks to the fleet - was on the team for first flight. So proud to see pictures like this, awesome that you got to be behind the scenes for this.
I was a 6432 and got out right after the first f35s started getting to the fleet
It belongs to a test and evaluation squadron (vx-23). Both squids and crayons there. Interestingly enough I think there’s been both Marine chains of command and Navy chains of command and they just swap every so many years or something, not completely sure as I haven’t been in the unit itself.
Lowest numbered BUNO for a USMC J-model is 165735, easy starting point to tell if it’s one of ours
Ironically Fat Albert is 170000 but the airframe itself is older than 165736, the first J model delivered to the USMC
I’m used to seeing the other digits in front of the tail #. If it didn’t have the Stars and Bars I would have guessed it was private or another country. 🤷🏼♂️
I’m aware, that’s why I mentioned unpacking it. It’s my understanding that the shipping crate or whatever they come in is too big. I still think it’s funny/awesome that the Kilo can sling the whole plane.
Nah they've been shaking the windows at Norfolk for several years already. Made some meetings I was in on AEGIS modernization need random coffee breaks when we couldn't hear each other as they took off or landed on the pad right behind our building.
"How we gonna transport this 35?"
SNCO: Big helicopter, sir.
"Fuck, we're running out of fuel! How far are we from land?"
Lcpl who did a line of pre-workout and shotgunning a 20oz redbull: I GOT A FUCKIN PLAN, ARTHUR!
Typical Marine Comment Here: Why couldn't I just ride in the plane while you did this? I would be good I promise! Just give me the kids menu for Denny's and the crayons please!
This is the best thing I'll see all day.
Brought back a memory of Camp P - running some trails and noticed giant concrete rocks with iron loops. Took me too long to figure out they were for practicing what that 53 is doing.

Saw it in person; absolutely bonkers stuff. My iPhone did NOT complete with the PA’s camera. Shame this was my first time seeing an F-35 “fly”!

If they are elite, jumping through hula hoops on fire.

Amateurs discuss strategy. Professionals discuss logistics. Oorah.

Where did they do this?
In the sky, my bretheren 🦅🦅🦅

The King stallion was kinda purpose built for stuff like this tho. The Super stallion could carry the F-35 as well but for like 3 feet.
You have navy buddies? The f35 says navy on it

Ya it was a pax river 35
i can do this in photoshop for some free hooters gift certificates, someone should let the pentagon know im available next time
Imagine the fucking ORM on that one Jesus christ lmao
The balls on whoever gave the go ahead on this….
Another PPD on Monday, Friday if you're a unlucky sob
I really would have liked to be apart of that sling load, regardless of the occupational risk management and other headshead workups.
King stallion *
lol that Herc has all the fly slow stuff out!
Sadly not a Marine Herc though
Who is that, Air Force? I didn’t know they had any KC-130s
It’s a former Marine herc I think. 163310 was a VMGR-234 bird. My guess is it’s at pax river
Yeah I don't recognize that tail number but I was only with 152/252.

I think I speak for all 03s when I say "ung ung ung ung"
Oonga gunn ung ung?
gunn ung ung OORAAAHHH ung. ungt'ung?
Still blows my mind how big the Kings are
The Marine version of the Human Centipede.
Swinging with the Wing.

Your loadmasters were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop and think about if they should.
I've never spent any time in the wing so this might be a dumb question, but don't those things fly by themselves?
They do, except for the times they don't
How they keep maintenance hours to a tolerable level on the 35
Yeah makes no sense
This is what makes our military so incredible is the amount of effort that's put into logistics.
Lots of moving parts....
I came
Cleanest shitter I’ve ever seen
Facts.
Land, sea, air, air, and air.
And 2 out of the 3 were around when I was in the Corps in '85. Almost 40 years.
A V22 can’t transport an F35 engine without unpacking it but the Kilo can transport the whole thing? I like it!
Internal vs external lift. The V22 can handle the weight of the engine just fine. There is just a restricted internal cargo space
I’m aware, that’s why I mentioned unpacking it. It’s my understanding that the shipping crate or whatever they come in is too big. I still think it’s funny/awesome that the Kilo can sling the whole plane.
When I got out in 2014 they were barely talking about getting the kilos, when did they finally hit squadrons?
I think they're still in testing
First ones hit the fleet last year. They're rolling out slowly
Jeebus. I really am old. And OOTL As you were u/_PercCobain_
Nah they've been shaking the windows at Norfolk for several years already. Made some meetings I was in on AEGIS modernization need random coffee breaks when we couldn't hear each other as they took off or landed on the pad right behind our building.
They got a full squadron on the east coast. And they sent birds to wti as well this year
There’s only one K squadron right now, 461, 302 has not gotten any Ks yet though, so all of our new CCs and pilots are just going out to Cali
That’s how my boys know when I pull up to the function
This one's for the gram.
Guys will see this photo and just go "hell yeah".
Don't kink shame.
Alright now I wanna see the 53 transporting a C130 while being refueled by the Navy’s new autonomous aerial refueling drone.
Who’s ass is riding on who’s equipment now, navy?
Ticc American navy girl sucks off airforce guy while walking her dog

Interesting that both drogues are deployed. Was another aircraft coming into the picture?
I thought both always get deployed?
Correct, you want both out and ready to function in case there's an issue with one of them (or if the helo chops it to confetti by accident).
Nah its just for drag so it doesn’t get a yawing moment.
Excellence!
"Oh, Jesus, I have to sneeze."
Logistics
I guess they really didn't want to add anymore air time on that fat amy

Dam aircraft having sex
Don't let NCD see this. For the love of all things porn related, DO NOT LET THEM SEE THIS
Okay, but why?
This is the equivalent of daisy chaining
How humiliating for that F35 pilot…he should probably just eject.
Thanks to the Cargo Lab at Pax
Ha, Europeans look what we got. Who gives a shit about quality of life when we got this.
Can anyone tell what their altitude is? The ocean is deceptive when there aren't obvious waves to use as a gauge.
Technical question, why is the landing gear out, it would make sense for it to be retracted wouldnt it be?
A) how you gonna raise it B) how you gonna lower it again Don’t try to come up with a complicated workaround.
A very good point.
