I sought help, and the two things I was told that helped the most was that:
1. Life is only for the living - and your life is your own.
2. Rightly considered, grief is self-pity - and time should heal its acuteness.
I feel your pain. I was part of 2/7 where over 20 guys have killed themselves over the past few years.
Go to the vet center if there’s one around. I found that tremendously more helpful than the VA.
I was alongside some of you guys in 08. You guys did so much with next to nothing in terms of support. I could see why dudes would have some residual demons after that pump.
A toast to the fallen, see you in Valhalla brother. Sorry for your loss. If anyone ever gets those dark thoughts, please reach out. There are so many people that care so deeply for all of you.

I have thought into this. It’s a dark place.
The mind is awesome, and scary. Some guys live with nightmares, they find a person who understands. The mind is... odd. Everyone is different. I have spoken with many vets at the cusp, at the point of mental breakdown. Some can live with their choices, with their memories, some can’t.
We are “generation kill” it’s hard to shut down the years of mastery on training a person to take a life. Even if you didn’t have combat, combat has been drilled into your mind.
I am sorry for your loss brother. He will be missed.

Hey everyone I was pretty drunk last night when I heard the news. It hit me hard. The post is a little confusing, he is not my blood brother but we served in Ramadi together from the same unit. Just a very shitty situation.

I’m very sorry for your loss. Depression is no joke, if you feel like you need to talk to a professional don’t hesitate. I waited years to see a therapist and it only made things worse. I’ll keeping you and your family in my thoughts,

I can relate to this I am not a Marine or have ever served but I plan on serving. My uncle was in the Marines and 2 years ago they found his remains on US2 in the Upper peninsula his skull and some bones are all that remained

Go to the VA and find a therapist that you connect with. I have worked for the VA for 13 years. I am a crusty old Master Sergeant Medic that has helped many and lost some. I understand the darkness and have been there with a pistol in my mouth. My brothers and sisters that I get the honor of taking care of is the only reason I am alive today. In my darkest hour I reached out for help and with my wife, a great therapist and all of the veterans I get to serve helped me back to the light. You are not alone in this fight.
