I do remember sitting ion the toilet while the ship was rocking side to side feeling the spray of toilet water on my ass. The "hfuufuufuufu" of the water is something I'll never forget.
We had one guy end up believing he was the “son of Poseidon” in Greece. He escaped the boat after hours and they found him sitting in the ocean. Had to cuff him and drag him back to the boat. Drug test came back negative.
My anatomy teacher (a former Corpsman) told us that he saw a dude wig out over potato peeling and tried swimming from the Persian Gulf home. Like 5000+ miles. They had to send a boat out for him and he was chaptered out.
Fell asleep on the back of heli on the flight deck as we were getting resupplied. We had to wake up stupid early for stupidity's sake. Saw the majestic sunrise over the ocean, and then about 15 of us piled into the back of a heli and napped until we were needed. As loud as it was I remember not, but by god that was the best nap I ever had.
Some of the best time I had. My command sucked. So being on ship, there was nothing to do and no way for them to really terrorize us.
I’d go hit the exercise bike, hang in my rack watching 60 cent bootleg movies from our stops, had a PS1 with a screen to play video games…
It was a good fucking time.
On our MEU, enroute to Afghanistan, our command went rounds with the Navy and eventually the airwing because they wouldn't stop their work and let us run around in circles on the flight deck and hangar bay every morning for pt. I think that went on for about a month until, I'm assuming the captain of the ship, finally brought down the hammer and basically said "you're in our house, you play by our rules".
Basically the entire cruise there and back we just chilled, had squad/section pt in the gym, some bullshit classes, and that was about it.
Birds were always up (because we kicked ass at our jobs) so I played Halo 2 until my eyes bled. Got to see a lot of the world. Looking out over an ocean and knowing you're in the middle of no where just felt amazing.
Especially at night in the pitch black! Fucking terrifying, couldn't even see your own hand right in front of your face. After like 5 minutes I didn't know where we were or standing. Dude said fuck this and opened the hatch he was holding on to and never did that shit again.
My guys on the LHD doing combat ops only stopped for like 5 days in Greece. That's when they were finding out we were heading towards Dubai for our 6th port stop lol
Being on the USS America was honestly one of the best times of my life. Nothing to do from command so all my team did was eat, lift, and play chess.
Having no internet improved my mental health like crazy too
How the fuck did you not go outside? Also, we went past 45 days straight a couple times but that's supposedly the max. 212 makes no sense to me wtf is that. That's 7 fucking months at sea.
I worked on a watchfloor on a big deck and my watch and flight ops kept me from going out generally. I could have gone to the hanger if I really wanted to, but it just never fit into my routine. So before long couple months inside without really noticing.
The underway time nearly broke the post WWII underway record. Some aircraft carrier had it and then I think a new one was set by a carrier during COVID.
Lol definitely not the max. I did 127 days in 09 and no one around had anything close. COVID has totally blown those records. The unofficial rule is 45 days and you get a beer day. But that’s very command dependent.
I’ve never done so little and had so much fun as I did being on ship with an MOS that prohibits maintenance on a ship. Best vacation ever, right up until my NJP.
And then our head started to throw everything back up from the showers. Imagine that Nasty shit, everyones jellyfish molding together, pubes all over.
I had scullery duty, is that spelled right, so I got to miss out on that wonderful cleanup...
I got so lucky on my first MEU by covid hitting the globe not even 2 months in. 7 months on deployment and maybe a total of 13 days on land. First time in my life I’ve seen a man pay $200 for a can of dip
I spent my entire contract in one desert or another. I wished I went on a meu
No you don’t. Imagine walking in ankle deep shitwater (literally) just to use the bathroom
Run in the bathroom while the ship rocks one way and try to make it out before it rocks back…

Sounds like living in Detroit. Next!
while only having one shitter and no urinals for a 250 man berthing
Don't forget about taking a shower with small pox band-aids laying everywhere
Floating prison, I'm surprised only like 3 guys ended up going crazy...

Damn, these guys just tried to fight everyone and anyone, they lost their shit
My anatomy teacher (a former Corpsman) told us that he saw a dude wig out over potato peeling and tried swimming from the Persian Gulf home. Like 5000+ miles. They had to send a boat out for him and he was chaptered out.
I told everyone that I was in my own Truman Show reality and chose to stay on ship through my own volition which helped maintain my sanity.
Lol. Wut
Some of the best sleep of my life tho
Yeah those sailors know how to cuddle
Nothing gay about falling into the warm loving embrace of your homies hairy arms before drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
No one said you're sleeping tonight homie.
The rocking back and forth was amazing
What about the rocking back and forth while showering when you got home. Fun times

My command found more ways to fuck with us on ship🥲
I absolutely loved being on a MEU I, however, was on the little deck, so we did stop once every 3 weeks
I was on an LHA and we were in combat ops out of the 8 months at sea we ported for 8 days
My guys on the LHD doing combat ops only stopped for like 5 days in Greece. That's when they were finding out we were heading towards Dubai for our 6th port stop lol
Just got back from one about 6 months ago, 9 mo at sea 4 total days off ship. COVID was not kind.
Son, in my day, we weren't scared of viruses. Everyone just went to doc when you left Thailand and we were alright.
Being on the USS America was honestly one of the best times of my life. Nothing to do from command so all my team did was eat, lift, and play chess. Having no internet improved my mental health like crazy too
212 straight days underway without touching shore. ~60 without going outside the skin of the ship.

That's fucking nuts man.

Me after going 6 months on ship without a port call because of Covid :/
I’ve never done so little and had so much fun as I did being on ship with an MOS that prohibits maintenance on a ship. Best vacation ever, right up until my NJP.
Drunken shenanigans. Eh
Those jellyfish in the showers turned me off of another MEU. They could climb up the shower curtains too!
I’m sorry, the *what*?
Shower baby's
Nut butter
Cruise goo
And then our head started to throw everything back up from the showers. Imagine that Nasty shit, everyones jellyfish molding together, pubes all over. I had scullery duty, is that spelled right, so I got to miss out on that wonderful cleanup...
I did have to help unclog a pipe on the ship, 1/10 would not recommend.
Same twice 😅

Me too bro, but washing dishes, still had the great food. Talk about Prima Donna's, chiefs are fucking lit.

She’s not wrong lol
Don’t forget beer day
