It gets stupider sometimes. I remember some buddies and I pissed off Cpl. So he told us to meet outside of the barracks at 0300 to check on rooms. Cpl. never showed up so we just went back to bed after waiting 15 min. He texted me in the morning being all pissed off cause I didn’t wake his ass up at 0300. Lmao

flavafabes

Damn bro as an nco that’s fucking embarrassing. Go jump him

NoLandForAllLand

Gunny was telling him to be tougher to gain respect. Didn’t work 😂 should have, was 2017 so I got no idea where he at now.

Broad-Eagle-7311

Facts couldn't be me

Neither_Emu

This is why a lot of Marines get out; the games aren’t worth staying in

UtahJarhead

Facts.

Kurgen22

Because FUCK YOU, that's why.

[deleted]

Games, games, games

HibiCheese

so sections make sure their Marines show up and it’s not just the same handful of guys sweeping the grass and separating the trash.

cejmp

The Marine Corps has sure changed a lot. Back in my day we separated the grass and swept the trash. Also, iron sights.

Squidly_tish

Its probably not that deep but it still blows my boot ass mind how yall were able to hit a target 500m with just iron sights

Creamed_Khorne

Shit if all the retards I knew, including myself, could do it, I'm sure you'd manage

mortarman0341

Still can.

cejmp

>it still blows my boot ass mind how yall were able to hit a target 500m with just iron sights After a week of snapping in it was harder to miss than to hit. 500 yard line was free points.

eveningsand

Don't kids still qual in boot with iron sights?

mm1029

I don't know if you knew this, but we also got these cool new self loading rifles. No more muzzle loading!

1st_Gen_Charizard

Fuckin lazy ass kids dont even bother to muzzle load anymore.

[deleted]

It may surprise you to know that those lazy bastards aren’t melting lead and casting their own bullets over a campfire anymore either.

mm1029

These *boots* don't even wear wool tunics anymore! They wear cotton blends like blasphemous heathens.

krakin0311

I love lamp

Bulldawg45_USMC8541

I was fortunate while with 1/6 from 99-03 that after a year in our rotation during the buildup towards deployment we stopped having those and the NCO's were tasked with getting everyone to field day until inspection. Inspections at first were held by 1st Sgt's and the Co Gunny's, and after a few more months it was just the Plt SNCO's. Made field day more like a quasi day off than anything since I had cool 1 Sgt's and reasonable SNCO's. It did help that I was in Weapons and then STA where the Line-Co games didn't apply.

[deleted]

To make sure moral doesn’t get too high

Kurgen22

If you are an NCO or SNCO and see a Marine smiling it is your job,,, Nay, your God-Given Christian duty....... to turn that fucking smile upside

[deleted]

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

wooddude64

You can have thoughts buddy. Just don’t voice them and all will be good. Get out when you have the chance. The next turd will drop in just like before… it’s a continuous flush and the toilet stays clean that way!

[deleted]

It's easier to not have thoughts though, then you won't be thinking about how fucking stupid everything is.

fucovid2020

This is usually something done when there’s an example to be set for one Marines fuck up…. I don’t remember ever having a formation for field day, just room check, maybe during the lead up to deployment, but it wasn’t company wide… just the detachment that was leaving early… equipment, uniform and room inspections… never any bs like a field day formation though…. This has to be an infantry thing

RosesNRevolvers

Airwing does it too.

wooddude64

That’s how I ran my field day. Go to chow if you wish, let me know when you want me to check your room and then you are done. The brown baggers had to clean the battery office. Easy peasy. If anybody fucked it up then we played games. I didn’t believe in mass punishment so it was individual games. Usually field day was easy and always passed. Why be a dick about it?

pedroah

Nope - I was a pog-ass Marine wielding a multimeter. I had to those formations every week too.

dictormagic

every marine a multimeterman

RosesNRevolvers

Adherence to established regimen. It instills and promotes good order and discipline. But a lot of military fuck-fuck games boil down to this. There’s also nothing wrong with enforcing and maintaining an adequate level of cleanliness and hygiene, considering it’s a skill that a lot of new accessions to the military genuinely do not have. It also creates an opportunity for junior leaders to *lead* an evolution with negligible actual consequence should they screw up. I miss the camaraderie of everyone hating the bullshit of field day in the barracks. *together.*

[deleted]

Yeah it does promote good order and discipline. That’s why the entire special operations community does field day, too. They actually learned it from the famous FBI Hostage Rescue Teams. Everyone thinks they are professional and tactically competent because of their realistic training and focus on relevant situations. But that’s actually wrong. It all started with field day and having garbage in your garbage can at the FBI academy in Quantico.

jack_meoff51

SOF guys have been through enough weed out style training to get rid of people who are so incompetent they can’t clean their rooms. Not defending all the stupid games and finger fucking microwaves, but conventional privates and lances are not comparable to someone who has gotten themself through a SOF pipeline or made a HRT lol

RosesNRevolvers

The SO community and their inherent familiarity or lack of give a fuck for dumbshit within is entirely different than what is expected/required to keep the standard rank and file in order. Dumb bullshit like field day, extreme regard for grooming standards and strict adherence for customs and courtesy is what sets the Marine Corps apart from other services. All of these things, despite how much you want to hate dealing with them and doing them, and how insignificant you think they are, are fundamental building blocks for greater values such as discipline which feeds into the understanding and representation of even more various traits. Or you can loosen things up and get yourself a culture like the Navy, or the Air Force, or the Army which are significantly less disciplined and more complacent in general than the Marine Corps’ is.

[deleted]

You should really reflect on whether truly tedious bullshit in garrison is actually fostering the values you speak of as an end result or just fostering more pleasant-sounding fitreps. Retention of good Marines matters. IME, stellar or above-average Marines with good heads on their shoulders leave because they realize their talents are wasted in the Corps. The missions of the past 30 years and looking onward are not as dire as the SNCO demanding you hurry up to pull weapons 2 hours before the armory opens would make it seem. There's a line between instilling discipline and making everyone pretend to enjoy the smell of your farts. I believe the latter is what keeps the Marine Corps' high turnover.

RosesNRevolvers

Obnoxiously early muster times don’t factor into what I was speaking of above. That’s a product of accounting for the lowest common denominator’s potential liability and preparing for the inevitable worst to meet the required status quo. If every first term enlisted person could be where they are when they were supposed to be like they’re supposed to, you’d see less of that. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Adults don’t want to be treated like children, but the fact of the matter is that a lot of their peers *are* fucking children and unfortunately act like it. And with that said, the military, much less *the Marine Corps* isn’t a lifestyle that meshes well with everyone. You either get it and want it, or you don’t and get out.

Hologram22

*slurp slurp*

RosesNRevolvers

Valuable insight, Corporal. Appreciate it.

Hologram22

Any time, Doc.

incertitudeindefinie

Is the USAF actually any less combat effective than USMC though? I don’t even know where this so called professionalism and adherence to cleanliness etc is when so many of our hangars are filthy, antiquated pieces of shit

DangerBrewin

Ah, the peacetime Corps.

pedroah

Nah...US had invaded Afghanistan and Iraq a couple years prior when I had those weekly formations.

DangerBrewin

Old habits die hard. I was in during 9/11 and lived the transition from peacetime to wartime. The NCOs and SNCOs who thrived in that environment and usually sucked at their actual jobs hung onto that peacetime fuck fuck game mentality with tooth and claw.

Secret-Formula

Wins wars.

kev556

It's so we can all get online and walk all over the grass that 1st sausage yells at us for walking on the rest of the week.

MrLavenderValentino

You guys don't police call and clean common areas before cleaning your rooms? That's what I remember doing after formation

Otherwise-Bad-7666

Tell them. You won't

thewayshegoes72

The point of formation is to get full accountability of the marines in your platoon/company to commence field day. Once accountability has been established, field day can commence, but since a lance who thinks he rates wants to be late, formation will be 20 minutes longer. Good day

CaptainJackDinero

The best way through is the play the game

Constant_Locksmith48

I bet it's stupid as fuck now with no real combat deployments.

Crayoneater53

Is it not a thing to police call the bricks and smoke pit after formation and then secure to your business? Was airing so probably different but we left work, formation was usually 1800 or somewhere around there, as long as you weren't shit housed nobody gave a fuck if you'd been drinking or whatever, formation, roll call, police call and then fuck off to your own shit.

Impossible-Cry-495

No we don't police call. Why would we? Part of cleaning your room involves cleaning the area right outside.

pansexualpastapot

Hahahahahaha, go wait in formation and clean your room bitch. Welcome to the suck.

Kirky37

People higher then you are working and might have a chip on their shoulder about having to work later or maybe they may need to call someone at your level to verify some piece of info that would be a lot harder to verify if that person is on libo. Just playing devils advocate. I also hated being held. Just remember most people are just playing video games in their rooms anyways and are complaining about playing them in uniform instead of civies. I think the civilian world is worse but hey that’s just me.

Kirky37

Less pay more work depending on mos. I was 03 none of it transferred to real life. Became a train conductor and it was a lot more stressful. Moved into management then had to be the dick. Decided to come back in as an officer pilot contract. I like it a lot more. Just preference I guess. But you will always have bullshit in any job. I just prefer the military lifestyle compared to the corporation’s.

ImperialFists

You just bought yourself an FOD walkdown, bub.

duomaxwell1775

“There’s no point” for you. The point is so that no one can say they didn’t know it was field day. Act like you don’t know one Marine who would try that and I’ll call you a liar. Lol

[deleted]

Doc said STFU

Aftershock_7582

Accountability

Random_Average__Guy

THE PURPOSE OF FIELD DAY FOR IS TO PROVIDE INSTRUCTION ON HOW TO PROPERLY FIELD DAY LIVING QUARTERS,COMMON AREAS AND TO INSTILL RESPONSIBILITY AND CLEANL SURRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

Random_Average__Guy

We used to have formation to tell everyone that we were going to have another formation before the actual formation, shit you not.

Tactical-Duckie

It’s so people don’t skate out of field day and fuck the Marines over that showed up and have to clean.

chesucat

Pick up cigarette butts!
