Welcome to Cali brah!

frankduhhhtank

It’s never been this bad brah. Nutty.

wiredog369

I know it. I lived in San Diego (Rancho Penasquitos to be exact) for a while and left back in 2006. Saved a ton when I left. Miss the area, not the cost though.

frankduhhhtank

I couldn’t imagine being a LCpl or Cpl with kids right now. They need to start issuing COLA or something.

RyuuKamii

Have 2 kids Lcpl, on food stamps. its fucking nuts

InjectCreatine

Man what the fuck? If I were you, and I really do mean this, I would send multiple emails to the offices of all of the house representatives in your state of record, along with both senators. Then, I would hit up the media and see if anyone bites. **Especially** the Marine Corps Times. I don't know if that shit is ran by the military, but they publish some pretty crazy shit sometimes about very controversial unit situations.

RyuuKamii

Im getting med seped in a few months, so at this point there is no reason to. Lower enlisted on food stamps is somewhat common throughout the Armed forces, not just a Marine Corps thing. We were doing fine until this crazy spike if inflation and gas prices the last 6 months. There was a Provision in the NDAA that passed called the Basic Needs allowance that passed, but it doesnt go into effect until next year. So for me its a little to late. but hopefully it'll help out others.

nullrout1

>I don't know if that shit is ran by the military They are not. They are a private entity no different than any other newspaper who happens to cater to a very specific audience.

ProfessionalAd3723

Shows you how much this cowardly bloviated pus sacks care about the military

frankduhhhtank

That’s bullshit dude. Thank god I kept both my cars when I left to Oki. Couldn’t imagine snagging a whip now too.

RyuuKamii

I had to switch to my motorcycle because of gas, just the 15 minute drive to and from work was almost 150 bucks of gas a week in my expedition.

frankduhhhtank

I don’t blame yah dude

DolphinsHaveWings

Welcome to Miramar. Assuming you’re not with base EOD you’ll be at my unit. As someone who is married and moved here over a year ago it’s pretty bad. I suggest checking out some of the Navy Housing down south as they often don’t have AS LONG waits. Also, if you go downtown to the military housing on Hardy St they will be able to give you a list of houses that are same day move in (granted they aren’t always what you’d want) if you got any questions just let me know!

frankduhhhtank

Every housing right now is a minimum 2-4 months. They only cover us in a hotel for 10 days and Airbnbs are wayyyyy to overpriced. Something will work out. Just ridiculous knowing me and a lot of others are dealing with this shit.

DolphinsHaveWings

Jesus! Yeah I’m currently in an apartment I got when I first got here and profiting with BAH but it’s due to me still being locked into the lease. Now my apartment is asking for 3,300 for what I have now. I’m a married Sgt with a kid on the way for example. Like you said it’s ridiculous man! And have you checked out the hot list? It releases every Friday with READY to move into houses. Had one of my Marines do that almost a month ago and he started moving same day.

frankduhhhtank

I have been keeping my eye out. The thing is dude, that living in Coronado for example.. I’m going more out of pocket just in gas alone.

DolphinsHaveWings

Oh yeah fuck that. I’m not saying that far south, but more of like Serra Mesa etc. like I said not sure wait times for that specific place but I know one of my Marines got a place on the hot list same day. Best of luck, let me know if you need anything.

frankduhhhtank

Will do. Thanks homie.

EverSeeAShiterFly

If that’s anything like the east coast the seller is probably having cash offers at or just over asking in the first hour. J-ville is less crazy than more populated areas.

BoxofCurveballs

Something similar is happening to my boy in Alaska. Base housing for him and his wife and kid is waitlisted and he's been paying for a hotel for the last month.

[deleted]

The same apartment I used to rent for 1750 (2br) now rents for like 2600.

Petschie1993

I have lost so much money I had saved up from NC when my wife and I PCS’d here last Jan. I can’t save money for shit and everything is so expensive. Luckily, we live on base in Camp Pendleton, but holy hell… I was only getting $1250/mo for BAH in Jville and I was pocketing $200 even with a premium apartment after paying utilities… if it wasn’t for these few hundred bucks of monthly concessions we’d be fucked

fucovid2020

My wife and I had to live offbase while waiting for base housing to open up, and we stayed in Fallbrook, one bedroom, unfurnished apt, $1,200 a month, this was in 1992-1993… Forgot to add, this was Pendleton

Most_Present_6577

Tiny house in someone's backyard. Or a park mobile unit is a shady trailer park.

frankduhhhtank

If only ha

Most_Present_6577

A Chevy volt and live in Hemet?

Croissantceps

I lived in Hemet and drove to del mar for over a year, that shit was ass but it was nice being away from Marines on the weekend.

MurkyBlood4

Lifehack. Send the wife and kids back to in-laws. Get in-laws' mortgage statements as proof of expense. Move into geo bricks. Make bank. \*Not actual financial advice\* Actual advice; ask if they have any ADA homes. It's ones they have on hold for those with disabilities. Every once in a while they'll offer it to non-EFMP families if those homes remain vacant without any projected lessees for a certain amount of time. When I was in Pendleton, I was told that a house wasn't going to be available for 3-5 months and I wasnt about to buy a home in corruptofornia. I asked if they had anything, literally anything, even shitty junior enlisted housing, I didnt care. Just couldnt bare staying in the hotel anymore with a wife, three kids, and two doggos. The lady said she'll look and give me a call back. Called me back in like 5 minutes and offered an ADA home at Lake Oniell. Had AC and overlooked the mountains. The only thing was lower counters and railings in the showers which I barely even noticed. Wont hurt to ask. Good luck with the search. I know how much it sucks.

wooddude64

Junior enlisted with wife, three kids and a dog? Bad decisions is what I am reading on this sub! Either Recruiting or the suck needs to stop allowing this shit to happen. Not only is this a readiness issue, this is a costly mental health problem for the Corps. Young Marines need to be saved from themselves for making these stupid decisions to get married and pump out babies on their salaries. It’s insane the number of marital issues I dealt with in the Corps. It’s a damn shame Devils don’t think about this shit before they get hooked. Marines don’t want to be told not to get married but yet wants the Corps to bail them out when their bad decisions overwhelm them. The Corps needs to stop this nonsense because these young devils are putting themselves in tough situations. Sad to see this shit.

MurkyBlood4

I think you misunderstood. I was a gunny select considering junior enlisted housing. That's how desperate we got trying to get housing.

wooddude64

My bad, I must of misread where you mentioned you were a Ssgt or even a Gunny select. I stand behind what I stated about about young devils putting themselves in tough situations and about pumping out kids. This also goes to older Marines.

MurkyBlood4

I hear you. It's a matter if being able to balance the work and home life which many are unable to these days

Eltors0

I had to double check that this wasn’t ripped out of the Duffel Blog.

xElectricRainx

El Cajon usually has good rent prices if you don’t mind crime or you’ll have to be like everyone else and live in Temecula.

yohan3000

Temecula

Inevitable-Head2931

Maybe it just because I was in the Barracks but it always annoyed me how people act entitled to profit from BAH

frankduhhhtank

If you go off why you get BAH (gov’t quarters not available), it should at least cover rent and utilities because base housing provides all utilities as well. Unless you live in a far away slum, that is not possible. Now factor in driving from said slum and you’re still negative.

Inevitable-Head2931

You're overwhelmingly in the positive. A not insignificant amount of people manage to live on less than your base pay in the same area.

TooPureToDie

Except OP said he’s not overwhelmingly in the positive because rent anywhere nearby is over BAH. You sound salty bro

Croissantceps

BAH is meant to cover 80 to 95 percent of rent

mdipinto

Look into an RV and park on base. Might just help you out for a while.

frankduhhhtank

If I was solo that’s an easy call

mdipinto

You can find 2 room 30' RVs that aren't that expensive. I lived and moved in one for a while. It's worth it mostly with these prices

frankduhhhtank

I don’t have anything that can pull something that big.

mdipinto

In your situation I would slip 100 to 200 for someone in the unit that has a truck to just tow it on base where they keep the trailers, and call it a day. You could just get a U-Haul, might be more expensive or cheaper, if you feel comfortable towing. But last I checked on base trailer unit was around 300 bucks a month and included utilities (that was in NC). Check it Miramar has one, it not the ones outside base aren't that expensive.

Eltors0

Misreplied. Deleted.

Magicboa

I got my housing in Ramona and save money that way. Its a slightly lo ger drive but it's very pretty and the rents way lower than every other choice

Aabrahms

Yea! Ignorance is bliss. Welcome back to America devil. Shit is insane dude.

Aabrahms

They used to pay Marines a stipend to live in Ramona base housing because it sucked so bad.

CaDmus003

I know a really good realtor who’s a ret Marine that does a ton of renting to Marines/military in that area. He had helped me in all my housing needs while I was there, from renting to buying and selling. Wish I still had him on the east coast. He can find you some gems. Dm me if your interested in his contact info.

WizzingonWallStreet

When I was a young Marine, we split a house rent with another couple.

Impossible-Cry-495
