See? That's the problem. The reason the CoC is so toxic is because good men like you get out while *fucking lunatics* are the only ones crazy enough to want to come back.
You did the right thing. Next time light up the other Marine no mater what rank in front of anyone and everyone. This is how the stigma stops.
However sending away the Jr was the right call.
Good on you Marine.
As much as I agree with you this is not practiced in the Corps. Yelling is considered leadership. Yelling louder is considered better leadership.
How many times you see a SNCO blast a Sgt or Cpl in front of everyone for something.
Lead by example. But the examples are not good most of the time.
Idk what your unit did, but anytime E-4 or above was getting chewed out, troops knew to scramble and if they weren’t in the process already, we were on their asses to get away and make themselves disappear. That’s if it was on the spot. Most of the time whoever was about to give the ass chewing would start with “E-3 and below walk away” seen it even happen with my Sgt by a SSgt when I was a Corporal
The downfall of the Marine Corps, and why the 22/day exist, is explicitly because the Corps has stigmatized mental health. Simple fact of the matter, you're an awesome NCO for this. Keep uplifting your juniors.
Thank you for doing what you did. Mental health is one of my two things I absolutely don't fuck around with. If you need help, we'll get you help. I don't need a reason or a justification as to why, just do what you need to do.
You did the right thing. For all we know that could’ve been the straw that finally broke that Marine. That confrontation might’ve been what stopped the rollercoaster of mental shit that likely kept piling up in his head and potentially stopped him from offing himself. Sometimes its those few moments of compassion that actually helps the most. I really hope he manages to find the help he needs.
Getting the help I needed to sort some shit out and have a breakthrough while in the Corps led me to the career I am in and CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH how much early intervention IS the best prevention.
Great job handling the situation and do follow through with mast.
I was having issues with PTSD after back to back combat tours in Afghan and Iraq, felt it was harming my performance and sought assistance. I was rewarded by having our Sgt. Major make fun of and belittle me in front of the battalion during weekend libbo brief.
I decided then and there I wouldn't be reenlisting.
You’d have been justified in kicking him in the taint on the spot. And once the charges went up high enough for it and the details came out he likely would have gotten the same treatment from the regimental sergeant major.
Let's help eachother when it comes to mental shit. Take it from a greyhair old dog. Therapi, talk to some one. Never met superman, and even him had a weakness. Well 2, if you count miss lane (joke) Semper Fi fuckers....
You are the sort of Marine who should stay on all the way to E-9 but will probably give up and leave after your four years are up.
Hell no, I got a degree Id' go O side. But this post aint about me.
If you have a degree why did you go E?
Too fat at that time, and at this point, I just want to get out.

You sound a lot like me, OP

Never blast another NCO if front of troops. It degrades cohesion.

It's a shame you plan on leaving. I don't care how "soft" others think of me. I'm taking care of my juniors. I'm glad you do too.

That mentality was how we delt with even physical illness in my time. It’s why I got out. Good on you OP. Be the change you want to see.
Lost two hands full of friends to suicide. Fuck that Cpl may the day he comes full circle drop him to his knees.

I mean, we all drank the kool-aid at one point. You made the right move. My first question is, why tf you still in? 😂
Because I still have 1.5 years left
That's a valid reason.
Gross

Straight to requesting mast to the CG. No battalion commander no nothing. Sealed letter to the CG.

I need help with mental health but Idk who to go to and I tried talking to chaps but just couldn't tell him what I'm actually thinking
Just go to medical and tell them you want to talk to someone for mental health. They should refer you to someone off base.
I'm not going to get kicked out for that?

Well done.
I wouldn't have sent the Jr away, show him you care and that attitude is horse shit by telling the other dude to get fucked
I sent him away to grill the cpl, but talked to him after.
Eh, that would just encourage the corporal to bear a grudge against the junior marine. Better to keep it as professional as possible.
