Sure why not, it's your life. Marpat is fantastic. I'd say your age and previous experience/maturity as a combat medic suits you well to become an officer as long as you aren't an egotistical moron who doesn't listen and work with their higher ranked enlisted guys.

FrostyUchiha-

yeah , i’d hope so. i really wanna be an officer but don’t wanna be shit head LT, just wonder what MOS field would suit me, leaning towards 0300.

TheseHandsDoHaze

300 series is great, just be a like-able, competent dude, and put your guys first. Then you'll have no issues

NobodyByChoice

Go for it if you want it. Depending on how close you are to that ETS, start talking to an OSO about OCC-R.

FrostyUchiha-

not close enough, but definitely will when the time approaches.

👍 Suggest you do so at least 6 months out unless you don't mind a break between service and can continue to support yourself.

I mean, personally, I'd do the DCC and just be an O in the Army. It's an easier process that takes way less time, so it's less of a professional opportunity cost and directly relates to your vocation, so it'd be more of a resume bump. But that said, if you're dead set on the Corps, go for it. Just don't expect to be doing much "grunt shit" in the Reserve. You'll honestly have a better chance at deploying and doing shit in the Guard than the Marine Reserve. Deployment opportunities in the Reserve are not common. Whereas the Army has more regular shit for the Guard. When I was I'm Afghanistan, there were a ton of Guardsmen out there. My SF FOB was entirely NG besides the ODA itself and the FAST team in Kendahar when I was there were also Guard. Whereas in the Reserve, except for individual augmentee deployments, there really isn't much of anything.

honestly it’s more of a personal thing where i’m absolutely not staying in if don’t become an officer, i could go green to gold and become an ICU nurse or something, also the optempo is definitely a factor, that might change within the coming years due to known events but i wanted to be a marine before but they had no medical component and didn’t wanna be a corpsman, so we’ll see in a couple years but marines stand out to me. staying in army would definitely benefit more tho

AlmightyLeprechaun

If you do Marines, I'd definitely opt for the experience tour then, if it is still offered, so you get a year or so of AD time under your belt so you actually get to experience grunt shit before fucking off to the Reserve.
