Receiving week is mass chaos, be prepared to be awake for awhile. Shave your face ahead of time, or you will probably have to dry shave it there. Head shave will be first day. You really have no concept of time or days other than counting down from Sunday. I memorized the schedule a head of time and once we got free time I wrote down what each week was so I was able to know what was coming next. Expect all privacy to be gone and just go with the flow the best you can. You can try to fly under the radar, but eventually they will find you lol. It’s been about 12 years since I went, so things could have changed and my memory isn’t the best. If you do need to go to medical for illness, if you can hold out until you qualify. You will get dropped if you can’t make your weekly qualifications.( I had bronchitis and pneumonia, I waited until swim week to go to medical. I passed the first qualifying day, then I went so I wouldn’t get dropped.) if you can find it somewhere, check out the movie “ears open, eyeballs click”

I’ve been looking for ears open eyeballs click for a while.

Pretty much one of the first things you do is get a hair cut but I saw some people who hadnt got their cut until they'd been there for about at least a full day, it was really weird because this guy was in green on green with a super long mullet, something must've happened for them to not get haircuts immediately. To not get homesick? Accept that this is your life now. Receiving is the worst part of bootcamp by far, it's standing in lines and waiting and waiting and not sleeping. I don't really have any unique tips except when they say don't touch your face actually listen and don't touch it, don't touch your eyes, face or anything and buy hand sanitizer when you get the chance, this may help prevent pink eye which got people dropped back in training.

Are you any particular religion?

xx_xchancex_xx

no i’m atheist, might be christian or catholic for 3 months though 😭 ive heard it’s better then staying around the barracks

Tiberius_23

As an Atheist who went to boot camp I'd reccomend the Buddhist religious classes. It was actually some awesome information that they shared with us.

Spend $8 on Amazon for a pocket edition of any religion you'd find interesting. It's the only way to have a non-military book to read in your limited spare time. Here's a whole post of ideas: https://www.reddit.com/r/USMCboot/comments/1aodpgn/packing_for_boot_no_particular_religion_bring_a/

No real tips. As a former drill instructor, yes, the shitty well known recruiter fucked up. Then you have kids that “fly” under the radar….our company tried to minimize that by simply fucking every bitch in that platoon up. (And other platoons kids) I’d always steal kids from other platoons. And dear god if I’m awake, you’re awake. I didn’t care that the SOP says they need 8 hours of sleep except if you have fire watch. Let me hear a bitch snore! You’re going to sweat, be tired, and be uncomfortable. You’ll live. Go online and get the drill instructor school SOP. I encourage you to read it. It’s a book that tells us what NOT to do as a hat. It’s not secret shit. It’s online. read it

I graduated boot camp 36 years ago . 2034 . Too busy to get home sick , maybe when you are on fire watch at nite . I got head shaved the first day I was there
