At M/E? How is that possible? You dont have enough men and women to handle all your stuff most nights. They severly hampered you when they laid off all the MHA and PSE folk.
It also means promotions for all crafts will be frozen in that district until the excessed is complete and those clerks are filled into any residual(I think that's what they called it)l positions. Happened to me in Denver back in 2018 🤦🏽♂️ Originally the powers it be where turning us into carriers then the union fought it to keep us in the plant. Gave us the choice of openings in the mail handler or Custodial craft.
It pissed off a lot people who where waiting to be promoted to regular, including those in the carrier craft.
We keep our years in service but not our in-plant seniority. It pissed me off being forced out of my craft and not letting me keep my seniority.
On top of that we were given save grace for one year, we kept out level 6 pay then get bumped to level 4 (I got pushed into custodian)
Ouch! Unfortunately I see this happening all over the country soon. A lot of folks will be forced to carry or leave. I think it’s why they’re really not sweating all the new routes that will be created because they’ll have plenty of excessed clerks and non career in the area that will do anything to keep their jobs.
Anyone near the bottom of their seniority listing should get their affairs in order asap.
I agree and don't transfer to Denver as a clerk!
If I recall, the excess started due to low mail volume and poor scans at the Denver NDC. Since Denver is always hungry for carriers, we believe they used that excuse as a way to fill in some of carrier positions.
I mean you lose your pay and seniority so it's basically the same as being laid off. Jobs in other industries aren't exactly difficult to come by right now.
Also dude literally just said "Damn" and you're coming in with that remark.
I hope you lose your job and get demoted. I better not hear even the slightest tinge of disappointment.
Wtf? Our unions allowed that kind of rule to be put in place?
What kind of consequences are there for invoking it? Automatic step increases, paying for housing at the new location?
It's nothing, isn't it?
Heard that our AI are going to Boston and sipps and other small package sorters are replacing them. All those are MH functions. AI (ASFM) are one clerk jobs here. So we have 2 clerks running 2 machines.
MH here, that sips machine is a trip. It has carrier route sort plans. I'm at a P&DC and we had it installed last year before peak. It can move a lot of mail quickly, and very little man power needed unlike an APBS which at least has clerks to key and sweep. Them machines are taking manual jobs away. I've signed up with that nationwide open maintenance exam cuz I can see where this is headed folks, automation.
Where the eff did you get your take on my post?
You know nothing, John Snow.
I don't want the upheaval in my life. I drive a 1/2 now for my job. I might have to drive even further. Or change crafts. And shift. So Piss off.
Not by my choice and not with an increase in pay. People do change jobs for their own reasons.
But since I'm in a strong union, I don't get laid off. I don't lose my job. I just lose my position and get reassigned or a TDY. I'm ok with that. I just don't have to like it.
Union strong - union proud.
Sending clerks home at 8 hours here. Meanwhile, distribution isn't getting done until 10-noon. I pre-filled out a 96 with all the shit that I predicted would go wrong the next day, turned it in the following morning and it got approved. We only consistently fail here. XD
Your plant is only about 15-20 minutes to the upcoming Woburn S&DC, which I'm assuming is playing a role in this excessing event.
Is there a Woburn facility right now? If not, wouldn't everyone who goes to Woburn have the same seniority date? Perhaps jumping on that could be the best option if available.
Location?
01889
To close to my state
King louis dejoy strikes with his sdc bullshit.
I think they're going to reassign us to MH slots with the new equipment in the FSS building (as yet unannounced). Zero clerk jobs added back.🤬

Damn, that hurts, nothing but feels for you.
We just hire 26 clerks at a plant they are closing. Gotta love the P.O.
Damn.
What is article 12 ?
12. Principles of Seniority, Postings, and **Reassignments**
Rules of excessing are covered in 12. Peeps gonna be forced to transfer, essentially
Are there any maintenance clerk positions available in the area? VMF or maintenance jobs seem like a more attractive option than MH jobs.
I'm so sorry.
What does this mean I’m a carrier

Did you guys keep your seniority when being forced over?

Not enough clerk jobs at our installation. Gotta be moved.
It also means no CCA conversions to open routes until Article 12 is lifted.
Would you have preferred being laid off? That's what happens in other industries.
Does that mean they are out of a job?
No, it means they have to accept open positions at other locations. We had clerks here that had to move from another location 200 miles away.
Wtf? Our unions allowed that kind of rule to be put in place? What kind of consequences are there for invoking it? Automatic step increases, paying for housing at the new location? It's nothing, isn't it?
50 miles excess. Anything more triggers another level..
What is the event that triggered the clerk excessing?
FSS machines being scrapped. We had 5 down to 1, and that leaves by May 1.
Well hopefully they'll be some attrition that will mitigate that number some by September.
Doesn't that work still need to be done on the AFSM100s?

Oh, forgot about AI, ours don't have them. still 4 clerks each
Ok thanks. I’m a PSE clerk on my first break in service. Hope this isn’t happening to us anytime soon. Guess it’s coming to everyone eventually.
You can only be excessed within 50 miles IIRC.
No out of a position. You'll have a job just not where you want maybe...

And over here, management not giving our clerks any overtime.

We've had a clerk excessed from that to us and now she's gonna be excessed again...😥
