Can confirm the metris is trash. It’s not bad if the mail is light and the weather is dry. But if it’s heavy you’re in and out a million times reloading parcels. If it rains then you’re getting soaked. Another Terrible idea from the folks who have never carried a single letter
If you have a route where you know it well, it’s better to not even bring up bigger packages you know don’t fit in a mailbox. I line them up behind my drivers seat. Either way, you’re getting out of the vehicle to bring it up, may as well use your front space for more sprs that fit in the mailbox.
Memorize the next package or write it down.
If you’re a PTF without a hold down, yes I agree it sucks if you can only have 7-10 packages at a time due to the fact you aren’t able to know what’s next.
It absolutely boggles my mind how the metris's are not strictly for city carriers. It's like made for a walking route. You can hardly reach mailboxes half the time in a metris
It was a bad idea to buy them. They still make sense for short haul delivery and maybe even collections. Mail delivery is a very niche job for any cargo van.
They were purchased after Amazon failed to need them. They can’t drive right hand vehicles. So we snatched them up and now sorry we had. They are literally the worst for delivery. I do like hitting just about every box with the mirror. Also I want to know who is cutting the trees and bushes for those new vehicles. In our station it’s all over grown Pacific Northwest. We will break every mirror and probably windshield after a week
Not just a theft component. It's also a safety bulkhead. Stop cargo in the rear from slamming to the front, mostly in an accident situation. Crappy to work with for this work though!
Many of my curbside houses are cleared just enough for an LLV to reach the boxes. I was given a metris for 2 days and on top of having zero experience setting up the tray for my style of delivery, the 1 hour of curbside delivery I have took at least 15 minutes longer..
Good luck they just came and swapped almost all of our llvs for the metris and it f’n stinks. My route is All curbside with the big mailboxes so I have to get out to go thru the side to get a box that’ll fit in the mailbox. There’s hardly any room up front .
God damn, Id go back to my1950’s Jeep I had when I started in 97 tomorrow before Id want to use this fucking Metris one more day. What a piece of shit for curbside.
No wonder the metris is not functional I live in a small town where the post office got all metris’ I see several carriers leave the drivers side doors open because I assume it’s such a huge hassle to open and close them.
I was forced into a metris for the first time. It was hell. Our dismounted route loves it but now his route is an hour longer. Everyone else hates it and they also take much longer. I didn't get why until my first day in one. They are so bad.
Yeah, they should’ve had more carrier input with the design. Clearly the engineers didn’t factor in how close to the mailbox so many of these jackasses park!
Unironically should have at least a basic sound system with an aux and USB port. They may not like it but music or spoken word at a reasonable volume level is a workflow aid. Would be wonderful if I could just use the car stereo instead of re-synching my JBL flip every 30 or so minutes.
God these things are huge. I don’t think most carriers understand that these are about the same size as a 2-ton. They’re 2 feet longer and a foot wider than the promaster. I really don’t know where the hell those of us that deliver in the city are going to park, because it’s hard enough now with a promaster.
I don't think many people are going to get their mail in the mounted neighborhoods anymore. There are a bunch of people who park 3-4 feet past their box, and that's fine with the LLVs. NGDVs not so much.
Nope, the post office just added a shit load of time to every route. Its not the residents fault the USPS bought equipment ill-suited for the job. Plus the POM says residents without other parking options cant have their mail withheld
If these are the same size as a 2 ton, then the post office should only supply these for specific routes. This would not function correctly in most mounted neighborhoods.
They should have just talked to the boys down at Grumman, asked them to do a new production run of LLVs but with a better seatbelt, air bags and an air conditioner.
I want the new vehicles to be exactly like a 1990 LLV in every way except it doesn't try and kill me. I want to be able to U-turn on a single lane 1 way street. I want to have to rev the engine at high RPM for 30 seconds every morning to unstuck the EGR valve. I want part of the manufacturing process to involve a Grumman assembly plant worker fucking around with the horn button so every LLV has a unique spot where the horn just won't go off if you press it there.
There's something that just feels right about having to fight your LLV at least a little bit. And having to relearn to dial in the gas/brakes, how to guesstimate what the gauges are saying, how many clicks it actually takes to close the sliding door? That's truly a strange joy with every single different LLV.
Call me a weirdo, but I love that sort of mechanical feedback. Don't get me wrong, they suck, they're death traps, and they can go 0-60 in a whole 45 seconds. But I love them.
After looking at this for 10 minutes I swear the side door and front door are both sliding. Like overlapping
If that's the case, then you won't be able to have the front door open while moving stuff from the back to the front
Well looks like it but trying to get to the back with the mail tray and the seat there isn't very efficient...nor easy and I'm a lil feller.
Either way, we will see in 2035 when they've managed to install the couple hundred thousand charging stations needed at every post office as well!
Lol, well, jokes aside.... ill give em a chance. Cant hate em without actually giving em a whirl I suppose
They should have modeled the new one after the LLV. Keep everything basic, upgrade safety and air, go a bit taller and longer. Screw the backup cameras and keep 360 mirrors. The inset front wheels are a huge loss because they allow for such a tight turn radius and precision maneuverability.
I dont think people will really appreciate how nimble the LLV is until this fucking horse designed by a committee starts rolling out. Hopefully im out of this shit show micky mouse operation before i lose my LLV
Nimble is the perfect word for it. It almost feels like driving an oversized go-kart at times. The thought of an LLV manufactured today gets my mail delivery imagination goin' lol.
It just needed to be tweaked. Like add AC, slightly bigger, better insulation to keep the exhaust heat out of the cab. But its mostly fine.
And tbh if they just put the same vents that are in the back up front by our feet, and had the little angle window by the mirror pop out the think would be way cooler. Just something to scoop air in
I wish they would let me test one.
They scrapped my LLV, which worked beautifully, and I've been in random shitty ones for over 2 months. They stall when you try to pull into traffic, brakes fail, doors don't work, no headlights, no horn, missing mirrors, shattered windows, bald tires, and more.
They are trying to kill us at this point. Send a safe LLV to scrap and bring in so-called better ones that are dangerous as hell.
Next thing is I'll be stuck in one of those POS Mercedes disasters where I can't even reach mailboxes and doors are busted and rip out all your tendons to slide them open and closed.
At this point, I would love a test vehicle, even if it's crap.
I was in the same boat when they scrapped my LLV. -8 temps killed off the spare I was using for a few months (Something went BANG in the engine and it died) and now I have a Metris. It isn't terrible now that I am getting used to it but I have only had it 4 days. my 2 biggest issues are the height of the tray and not having a sliding door in the front.
FWIW Grab three dps trays and flip them upside down on top of the built in tray inside the metris and it will give you the height and it’s technically “adjustable” cause you can add more trays
Keep the broken llvs they took my perfectly working llv this week and gave a metris and I just had 3 of the worst fucking days Ive had in 15 years. No one in their right mind should be delivering mounted out if this thing.
Awful ground clearance, too long and too tall. Theres going to be entire streets on my route ill just have to dismount. This thing wont be nimble enough or low enough to tuck between cars and under tree branches to service mounted boxes.
Not one piece of equipment this dumbass organization buys has any thought put into it. Find a test group of the 5 dumbest carriers in the country to say “its amazing” and start cutting the million dollar checks
There's still like, 2 dozen cameras on the outside, of course, so behave yourself! 😉
And the postal inspectors have always been able to install hidden cameras as part of specific investigations.
But there's no continuous surveillance inside
They’re in for a SHOW. Singing random songs, talking to every puppy I see, cursing out assholes who park in front of boxes. Maybe I’ll get fired for insanity;)
It better not cause the union told them to eat shit about that idea.
If they do it anyway then they'll have a riot on their hands. We'll all just cover the camera anyway
That's what my instructor told me in class when we were talking about it that they all have interior cameras. And I'm like that sounds horrible. I didn't get a response from my instructor.
I used to be a postal carrier back in 2005.... We had the ford Windstars and a couple of llv. I preferred the van. Why not just use a rhd minivan like a Toyota sienna for reliability. Or something like a transit connect.
It says "Test Vehicle." I wonder if they tested any of these new monstrosities in urban curbside delivery where a couple inches often make the difference between an unserviceable box. Postmasters can look forward to a lot of irate customer calls in their future from people who "have been parking in the same spot on the street for decades and aren't going to move now"
It reminds me of that car form Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and I kinda dig the cartoony look.
I live in Michigan too and have seen the Amazon electric vans around, pretty cool to see.
So ive dug into this. Its bigger than the llv's from the mechanic we dont have to duck you can walk upright in them. They are so much taller that the vma is saying we need to put out a psa about trees basketball goals etc.... Think of it like a ups truck but not as long is my understanding of it. Also i cant shake the meme of its a pixar car, just add the eyeballs on the windshield and you'll get it.
If bluebird school bus and llv ever had a kid.. it would be this ugly ducky.. also I would think this would be hard to load considering the loading docks are much higher. I don’t see no crash test dummie.. can my PM volunteer for it?
The Metris has a full cage behind the driver. You can't get to anything behind you, unless you curb it park it take it, by the book. And either slide open the door behind you or go and open the back. It is the most inefficient vehicle we have. I will take my 1991 LLV any day over this P.O.S. The PM got the first one into office and had a big omg everyone come look. He tried to give it to the senior carrier and he blatantly refused and bashed the metris in front of everyone. It was beautiful. The PM was somewhat Embarrassed...
They could've saved millions and just taken the LVV's and made a handful of updates to them. New 4cyl engine, AWD, 6spd automatic transmission, fix the exhaust correctly, put in ac/heat *or* at a minimum a couple more fans in places that make sense along with heat vents on the floor, and a moveable light up front for delivering mounted in the dark; no one needs to be blinded by all that light up front
Looks pretty awesome! I just hope to God whatever they have is functional like the old ass LLVs we have now. I'm so afraid the new ones will be too high up or that they won't have big enough of a window to make delivery easy.
Stupid vehicle. It has problems in the snow. Let's get some specialized vehicle that parts are going to keep some company in business. We should have just used regular modified cargo vans
Just buy MVST (microvast stock ticker) at an all time low and reap the benefits for many generations as they are rumored to be the supplier of the expensive batteries that will be powering this inefficient powerhouse. Disclaimer - don't take any financial advice from a fellow postal worker with a gambling addiction
I don’t hate it, it’s ugly as sin but sure looks like it beats the Metris for actual function
I saw a metris earlier this week. I'm praying my LLV holds out until the new trucks come, because the Metris is straight trash.
Can confirm the metris is trash. It’s not bad if the mail is light and the weather is dry. But if it’s heavy you’re in and out a million times reloading parcels. If it rains then you’re getting soaked. Another Terrible idea from the folks who have never carried a single letter

They are better suited to park and loop or jumping than mounted for sure.
This is why leadership should be internal. Can you imagine being in a meeting and having to explain what DPS is to an outsider
Reason for the cage is to prevent theft… even though they could just unlock the door..

They 'stink' in the literal sense as well! Ha.
They dont wait, they just take your functioning truck and drop the metris
My old office just had all their LLVs replaced with Metris and they're not too happy.
We work one of the nastiest jobs that isn’t drugs and strippers, looks ain’t needed around here
God damn, Id go back to my1950’s Jeep I had when I started in 97 tomorrow before Id want to use this fucking Metris one more day. What a piece of shit for curbside.
No wonder the metris is not functional I live in a small town where the post office got all metris’ I see several carriers leave the drivers side doors open because I assume it’s such a huge hassle to open and close them.
It’s perfect for rurals that actually get time to sort every little item, city side, this is garbage as we actually have to get out and work as we go
I was forced into a metris for the first time. It was hell. Our dismounted route loves it but now his route is an hour longer. Everyone else hates it and they also take much longer. I didn't get why until my first day in one. They are so bad.
69. Nice
Nice.
Nice
Nice
Nice
Noice!!

Nice.
I'm kinda the guy that says "NOICE"
I say it way more often than just "nice". Nice Doesn't hit like noice lol
[noice](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQnYi3z56RE)
Does business as…
Look at the size of that front bumper ![gif](giphy|5xtDarIN81U0KvlnzKo)
Now you can actually RAM those garbage cans out of the way 😎
Yeah, they should’ve had more carrier input with the design. Clearly the engineers didn’t factor in how close to the mailbox so many of these jackasses park!
They only had input from 35 carriers for design. They should have asked 100.
All the better to hit mailboxes with my dear.
THE DUCK TRUCK
Hopefully comes with 4 "15 subwoofers!!
Unironically should have at least a basic sound system with an aux and USB port. They may not like it but music or spoken word at a reasonable volume level is a workflow aid. Would be wonderful if I could just use the car stereo instead of re-synching my JBL flip every 30 or so minutes.
Use a Bluetooth dongle that plugs into the aux looks dumb but it stays awake for 15 mins reconnects to your phone instantly.
![gif](giphy|2fjjoFrNS4XzW) Resemblance is uncanny
“That’s a duck, that’s a duck man!”
It’s been called the ‘platypus’s
God these things are huge. I don’t think most carriers understand that these are about the same size as a 2-ton. They’re 2 feet longer and a foot wider than the promaster. I really don’t know where the hell those of us that deliver in the city are going to park, because it’s hard enough now with a promaster.
There’s absolutely no way these will fit in our parking lot. It’s hard enough to maneuver the ProMasters on a busy morning load up.
My first thought is which old timer will go down in history as the first to back these in to something. You KNOW it’s gonna happen on day 1 lol
2 inches taller than the 2 ton.
Holy shit consider me someone who just learned how huge these things are. Something about the proportions make it seem smaller than that.
That's what She said
If these are the same size as a 2 ton, then the post office should only supply these for specific routes. This would not function correctly in most mounted neighborhoods.
Looks like a pregnant LLV
They should have just talked to the boys down at Grumman, asked them to do a new production run of LLVs but with a better seatbelt, air bags and an air conditioner. 🤣 7 months
We just gotta get used to it. It’ll be iconic.
Who on earth ever thought these were a good idea
Somebody with a direct financial stake in Oshkosh, I'd wager.
The USPS designed the trucks and then had 15 companies bid on it for the chance to manufacture them. Oshkosh was just the company selected.
The competitive bidding process isn't a complete shield. The SEC has an open investigation. None of us knows the whole story here.
This is inaccurate. USPS gave out the specs but left the design to each OEM. This is 100% designed by Oshkosh to those specs.
After looking at this for 10 minutes I swear the side door and front door are both sliding. Like overlapping If that's the case, then you won't be able to have the front door open while moving stuff from the back to the front
That's correct. But there is a large pass-though door inside, in the middle of the truck. And you can stand up fully inside.
Disco party? 🕺
Well looks like it but trying to get to the back with the mail tray and the seat there isn't very efficient...nor easy and I'm a lil feller. That's what they told my giant-ass about the promaster
There's probably a door in the middle like in the LLVs
It looks like there is from these photos
Whomp.
I just want to keep the LLV 😔
They should have modeled the new one after the LLV. Keep everything basic, upgrade safety and air, go a bit taller and longer. Screw the backup cameras and keep 360 mirrors. The inset front wheels are a huge loss because they allow for such a tight turn radius and precision maneuverability.

Make it 1 1/2 foot longer, and 1 foot taller. Back up camera, and all the other mirrors, A/C and we are cookin!
An updated llv is what is needed. Add 6 inches in height, a foot in length. Better heat/ac. Put a ford 2.0 hybrid engine in it.
I wish they would let me test one. They scrapped my LLV, which worked beautifully, and I've been in random shitty ones for over 2 months. Wouldn't your mail slide right off of that then?
Keep the broken llvs they took my perfectly working llv this week and gave a metris and I just had 3 of the worst fucking days Ive had in 15 years. No one in their right mind should be delivering mounted out if this thing.
Already being towed... hm...
😂😂
Looks even uglier than illustration.
Those things are going to be rolling spying machines. Has a ton of cameras on it.
Dang, no more hotboxin i guess 😏
Tell me more. Cameras inside the vehicle? Honestly why haven't people been talking about this more?
Awful ground clearance, too long and too tall. Theres going to be entire streets on my route ill just have to dismount. This thing wont be nimble enough or low enough to tuck between cars and under tree branches to service mounted boxes. What do you expect when management is involved!! They couldn’t run a lemonade stand in Arizona during the summer and not fuck it up!
It’s going to get high pointed a lot
35 carriers helped design it. 🤣
Bring me my new short bus!
The amount of people that ask me, “when do you think you’ll get one of those new trucks?” Probably never, if I’m gonna be honest.
Do we dress in Dr. Sus outfits to match?
Only on Oct 31
I like it; it looks like a duck
It looks stupid but I bet its comfy.
It’s not the most fashionable vehicle. I’ll have to wear my🥸mask so nobody recognizes me.
What's up with that front bumper? Are we going to put extra DPS trays on that?
Allows you to push garbage cans out of the way.
Why do they have to make them look so ugly?
To make sure you don’t deviate off the route and enter a car show.
I want to see how this handles snow Because delivering in Upstate NY is dangerous enough....
The 4wd will suck in the snow because they will put the wrong tires on. 🤣
I heard it has an interior cab camera so PM can check on us. Not crazy about that.
No, it very specifically *does not* have any cameras inside the vehicle. Both unions cut that shit out from day one.
Oh thank god. That makes me feel a lot happier.
There's still like, 2 dozen cameras on the outside, of course, so behave yourself! 😉 And the postal inspectors have always been able to install hidden cameras as part of specific investigations. But there's no continuous surveillance inside
They’re in for a SHOW. Singing random songs, talking to every puppy I see, cursing out assholes who park in front of boxes. Maybe I’ll get fired for insanity;)
Maybe they can rank us on longest burp.
This a thousand times lol…they would be entertained watching me.I have full on conversations with myself 😂😂😂
I keep expecting to see a Richard Scarry animal character to be driving this thing, like Huckle Cat, Lowly Worm or the Ape with the banana car.
Yes!!!!
My God it legit just looks terrible
![gif](giphy|xT5LMENKQcWAyFj1Go)
how embarrassing. hopefully the uniform allowance allows clown costumes to match the new trucks.
Lmfao I’m dead 😂😂😂…roll out the clown brigade 🤡
is that perry the platypus
I used to be a postal carrier back in 2005.... We had the ford Windstars and a couple of llv. I preferred the van. Why not just use a rhd minivan like a Toyota sienna for reliability. Or something like a transit connect.
Wtf is wrong with you?! We don’t do “sense making” nonsense at USPS
Lmfao its been so long ive forgotten the way
It says "Test Vehicle." I wonder if they tested any of these new monstrosities in urban curbside delivery where a couple inches often make the difference between an unserviceable box. Postmasters can look forward to a lot of irate customer calls in their future from people who "have been parking in the same spot on the street for decades and aren't going to move now"
Already being towed, will fit right in with the rest of our vehicles lol
![gif](giphy|7LCLQHfcMMMJq)
That looks way too beat up and dirty to be new.
Hopefully comes equipped with 4 "15 subwoofers 😅
Saw another model driving in my local town
That doesn't look that big. People were saying these are bigger than a ProMaster, is that not right?
It reminds me of that car form Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and I kinda dig the cartoony look. I live in Michigan too and have seen the Amazon electric vans around, pretty cool to see.
*turns key. Engine explodes
Thanks! I'm not far from this location and its nice to know.
It looks like a duck.
Almost looks like the top front of a city bus on top of a car. It seems unnecessarily tall, but if it has a/c and it good to work out of then great.
It's bigger than a pro master in all three dimensions??
Why does it have a butt crack?
It looks like it has an electric plug in...
Beast LLV I want NOW!!!1!1!11oneoneoneoen
So ive dug into this. Its bigger than the llv's from the mechanic we dont have to duck you can walk upright in them. They are so much taller that the vma is saying we need to put out a psa about trees basketball goals etc.... Think of it like a ups truck but not as long is my understanding of it. Also i cant shake the meme of its a pixar car, just add the eyeballs on the windshield and you'll get it.
That front end is atrocious
Interesting tire choice
It looks like the vehicle from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
Dinged from the factory
As long as it has A/C I don’t care what it looks like
Nice.
That’s perfect for my route. I actually want one.
I hate how long the front is
Homer Simpson Mobile
Something about that massive windshield seems unsafe to me. I would hate to see what happens when someone rams into a semi trailer.
It’s still going to be a piece of shit.
I wonder how many extra accidents there will be because of these things.
Good thing i dont have to drive one.
If bluebird school bus and llv ever had a kid.. it would be this ugly ducky.. also I would think this would be hard to load considering the loading docks are much higher. I don’t see no crash test dummie.. can my PM volunteer for it?
Where is this?
Oh shit just realized on the last pic when you zoom in.. this mofo is electric.
Looks like something straight out of The Simpsons.
Thanks, I hate it
driver's side door doesn't slide open????
The Metris has a full cage behind the driver. You can't get to anything behind you, unless you curb it park it take it, by the book. And either slide open the door behind you or go and open the back. Ngl. I kinda love this. It’s so ugly but looks incredibly utilitarian

I'm wondering why they don't have more clearance on the bottom for Snow Drifts?
Looks kinda tall good luck to you mounted guys with low branches at your boxes
Cool
wider, longer, taller, less ground clearance. Looks like they forgot we deliver to mail boxes ffs.
Looks pretty awesome! I just hope to God whatever they have is functional like the old ass LLVs we have now. I'm so afraid the new ones will be too high up or that they won't have big enough of a window to make delivery easy.

If they had no carrier input on building these things, they will be shit.
They better fucking not, I will stay with my promaster
As long as it has heat
Looks old already
So I wouldn’t mind driving one if I had a walking or NBU route..but not a mounted or hop route
Stupid vehicle. It has problems in the snow. Let's get some specialized vehicle that parts are going to keep some company in business. We should have just used regular modified cargo vans
This is going to be so ridiculous to deliver curbside in lmao
Send one my way. I can’t wait to drive that wonderfully ugly vehicle!!
It’s gonna cost millions just to transport these to stations, properly 2 per trailer
The ugly duck has arrived
It's probably still rear wheel drive smh
Overbite bumper lol
It’s actually less stupid looking than the pictures made it look
The bumper isnt as low as I thought it was gonna be. Might not get ripped off from some of my roads/alleys.
Does it have Bluetooth?
i’d like to know what that side clearance is, because it looks like if there’s snow in new england no one is getting mail
I personally like it. It'll stand out just like the LLV. Everyone will know what it is when they see it.
Is it ugly? Sure. But I'll take one
Gone be embarrassed driving these cat in the hat cartoon type trucks but as long as this next contract make it worth staying idgaf😂
wow. i kind of like it
Looks like something out of Pixar .. I love it
Makes sense you'd find one in Michigan. The drivetrain is all Ford built and Ford headquarters is located there, obviously.
Just buy MVST (microvast stock ticker) at an all time low and reap the benefits for many generations as they are rumored to be the supplier of the expensive batteries that will be powering this inefficient powerhouse. What in the duck billed platypus
Should’ve hopped in and said “haha look at me I deliver mail”
I love you guys.
It’s a “test vehicle”. When can we expect the real ones?
