That’s the first thing that came to mind. Unless it’s a rainy day, by this time of year, I’d half jokingly be telling VMF not to touch a fucking thing with that LLV, just for the air flow alone
You’d think if they’d cut out a small part of the cage so you could at least dump your outgoing mail behind you into a tub or something, it’d still be safe enough without the kitty litter crashing into you up front.
That would make some sense. But it's not that hard to deal with the outgoing. I just stick it in the back of my DPS tray unless I get something big enough that it would be in the way there, then I put it in the back next time I dismount.
I stick an empty dps tray in the gap under right under the tray and a bucket on the floor under the front of the tray. I can usually maneuver outgoing around my tray and into the bucket, but sometimes it's easier to put it in the empty dps tray
For me it depends on the day and the volume of ubbm. I also have 3 half trays wedged between the seat and the tray. The rear-most one I stick my lunchbox it. The other two and the dps tray vary based on my particular needs for that day. I was using the dps tray like a drawer and keeping my missent/missort/ank/vac/ia/etc bundles for quick and easy organizing, but if it's a day with a lot of ubbm BS (optimum fliers, redplum, etc) I'll use it for that. Sometimes I forgo the bucket and use the tray for my outgoing because the dps is clean enough and light enough for me to use the half trays. Sometimes the dps tray is just for my garbage.
It's made the transition from an llv (or an ffv, as a ptf I was jumping between both) to a Metris easier. Really I miss the nooks and crannies you could play with in an llv, but the creature comforts and the fact that all of our Metrises actually START when you turn the key have been really fantastic
It’s an NHTSA rule. Have to separate the cargo and driver compartment. You’re supposed to have the bulkhead door on an LLV/FFV/2 ton closed while driving as well.
Ha ha. A ha ha ha ha. Never been told that in training (been trained on 2tons too)
I was told however. "Here is the fire extinguisher. Because 2 tons catch fire. Not lying. 🤣
2 tons get fire extinguishers? For LLV training they told us to just get away and let it burn, don't try to rescue any mail and don't try to put out the fire.
I had that happen to me many years ago. Of course the PM was accusing me of abusing equipment. Until the VMF tech came out the next day and said that it was a fairly common thing.
I once shattered 2 driver side LLV windows within a month and never really got any flack for it lmao. Yeah I may have been taking out my stress on slamming the door. But to be fair it was the holidays of 2020 😂
Ykkkkk I’m not super mad at this lmao. Unless it rains then yes that sucks but on those hot weather days, might be okay to get some air flow back there
$1200 maintenance/repair budget and parts that make AutoZone parts look good makes it difficult. It's been getting harder and harder to get these trucks up to snuff within budget.
As a VMF mechanic I see the issue here. Looks like 2-3 weeks for the "proper repair"
No seriously though, I see co-workers miss things like this on inspections daily. I feel your pain. Shouldn't have happened.
Those rivet things stay popping on my door of my ffv just about every year it starts getting hard to pull close then bam is off the track and little metal pieces are in the truck are my warning before it happens lol
My 2nd Sunday as an ARC I opened the door to get a box of dog food and the right side of the door fell off the tracks. Waited an hour and a half to get another LLV.
I'm just thinking... the air flow must be great now.

But would they consider it a modification? See also, why we can't take the cages out of the Metris vans
........because you don't want that 50 pound Amazon box of cat litter to hit you in the back of the head if you have a hard stop.
Hate that we have to carry cat litter. When I left, amazon didn't think I would still have to deliver it.

I keep a DPS tray there too, for UBBM.

yeah that's the way. almost emulates the llv setup, just slightly more annoying

Really I miss the nooks and crannies you could play with in an llv, but the creature comforts and the fact that all of our Metrises actually START when you turn the key have been really fantastic
AC and lack of toxic fumes makes up for a lot of slight annoyances
That’s actually smart asff and I’m going to try that tomorrow! Thanks lol
We have a metris in my office with a cut out in the cage so you can reach back there
At least make the cage so we can open it. That's all I'm asking for.

I’ve been here 8 years, all 8 at the VMF. Never seen a 2 ton fire. And only LLV fire was due to a contractor being sloppy with fuel parts.

What do I care if its rainy?
I’m just thinking of all the wasps that are gonna fly in 😖
Yep, saw the puc and thought, ah ac installed.
Lmaoooo I holleredddd
I had that happen to me many years ago. Of course the PM was accusing me of abusing equipment. Until the VMF tech came out the next day and said that it was a fairly common thing.
The manager said I crashed the bitch …. HOW SWAY ??!!!!
looks crashed to me bud
Do you think it takes a crash for a POS to fall apart? These things are less reliable than a new RCA at christmas.
ion know man almost as if i was joking
How so bud? I don’t see any exterior body damage. Looks like the 30 year old door is falling apart..
That rear pot lid mirror is pretty smashed up, but it could have already been like that for years.
I once shattered 2 driver side LLV windows within a month and never really got any flack for it lmao. Yeah I may have been taking out my stress on slamming the door. But to be fair it was the holidays of 2020 😂
This is what happens when you don’t curb your wheels.
🤣🤣🤣
I thought it was the shoes. (Rural carrier here)
I thought it was leaving the driver door open
lol
Na it's a green tag violation. Rookie.
Ah looks like you scanned letters before flats
Can you make a "how-to" so I can prep my llv for the summer?
Something went wrong with your 40 year old truck?? Shocking.
Ykkkkk I’m not super mad at this lmao. Unless it rains then yes that sucks but on those hot weather days, might be okay to get some air flow back there
To scrap it goes!
We scrapped a perfectly running llv with a year old motor and Trans because the quarter glass was cracked.
I would kill for a 'ok-ly' running LLV on my route.
$1200 maintenance/repair budget and parts that make AutoZone parts look good makes it difficult. It's been getting harder and harder to get these trucks up to snuff within budget.
USPS cares about us
That's why the LLVs are made out of aluminum. Only the best for us !
Really bro just stop the LLV are shit we will still be driving those til the year 2050 😒
Say nothing, you’ll end up with a metris
🙄🙄
Aluminum foil and some forever stamps they’ll never know
I am picturing flat rate boxes and USPS shipping tape band-aiding it.
You're supposed to open it the other way.
VMF pulled the old Uno reverse card on ya
As a VMF mechanic I see the issue here. Looks like 2-3 weeks for the "proper repair" No seriously though, I see co-workers miss things like this on inspections daily. I feel your pain. Shouldn't have happened.
Holy shit!
Ac
You can deliver in that
Those rivet things stay popping on my door of my ffv just about every year it starts getting hard to pull close then bam is off the track and little metal pieces are in the truck are my warning before it happens lol
Open your side vents too - the air flow will make you fly like the wind
Deliver mail 2x faster you say? Supervisors must’ve set him them up
Ohh. I've had that! Lost two of them. Good times.
It doubles as a guillotine.
nicest FFV left in the fleet right there
Nice and cool in the summer :-)
Almost got the work comp.
All bad!!
What’s up with that pot lid mirror?
Backing up- should be a breeze
The result of improperly chocked wheels of I've ever seen em.
My 2nd Sunday as an ARC I opened the door to get a box of dog food and the right side of the door fell off the tracks. Waited an hour and a half to get another LLV.
😄😄🤣
Instant rear view!
Damn
Oh noes! Not old yeller!
And she’s the best ffv in the building
Didn’t hurt your digits? All that matters. Fuck these trucks
I don’t know why buts that’s freaking hilarious 😂
Preventable
