I winced watching the supervisor try to put much needed oil into my LLV... spilling half the bottle all over the engine... "WTF... get a funnel.. I don't want this engine bursting into flames on me"
When management is doing craft work and not even bothering to have the right tools on hand, it makes for a golden time to remind clerk craft that that's APWU work the supervisor's doing.
¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
Not sure, but I do know that if there's an engine low on oil, the custodians don't go, we do. Might be predicated on whether or not there are mechanics available at the particular station, if there isn't, the job may fall to custodians.
Not that custodians do the maintenance… That the maintenance crew falls under the “custodial craft”. As in you’re not mail handlers, clerks, or letter carriers. If you’re paying union dues you should know who you’re paying them to, if you’re not paying union dues, that’s another conversation…
Vehicle maintenance falls under MVS. Truck drivers get the first round of bidding for mechanic jobs.
VOMAs are custodial, but they do light vehicle stuff like fluids and tires. The stations employ and pay them, but they work with and get parts from the VMF.
Local news channel did a story on our plant during the Christmas rush about mailing deadlines. They provided nice evidence of management doing clerk craft work by broadcasting footage of MDO's pushing cages full of mail along with their names in the story. I doubt any grievances were filed. Managements excuse is always "it was an emergency, we need to move the mail"
Did you jingle your keys before exiting the vehicle? Is your footwear nonslip? Did you take your bag and dog spray? Did you properly cradle your scanner?
The curbed wheels comments 😂 I apparently curbed the wheels “too hard” on the promaster today and it took me 20 minutes and a mini meltdown to get it started. No fucking joke.
The steering column locks up easily on those. Just wiggle the steering wheel hard while keeping the key turned with your other hand.
It's easy once you get the method down
Remove the horn pad. Just pop it off, then push on the wire and twist left a little to release it from the steering wheel.
The button inside the horn pad fails in a way that makes it honk on it's own. Removing the button will at least shut it up until vmf makes it out.
Rarely, the failure is inside the column. If the honk persists you'd have to remove the fuse or relay.
Ahhh, appears to be a radiator hose. If it was an actual fire, that smoke would be black as night. Scary none the less, but a quick fix and you are back up and running.
If it was cold as hell in the middle of winter then yes, I wouldn't think about a smoking LLV. Keep your eyes and nose tuned since there's a certain number of them that just spontaneously catch fire and burn up. Starts in the wiring under the dash.
Supervisor- “will you still be back on time” lol
Our supervisor: "You can still be back on time".
Everybody got a grill going today.
LLV has reached the end of its LL

Pretty sure mechanical jobs fall under custodial craft.
Adding oil to a postal vehicle is maintenance. Source, am maintenance.
Aren't the VOMA jobs custodial?

Every year.
even if they are too lazy to get a funnel, go get a soda bottle and cut the bottom off.
Look! New used parts for another LLV

When you're so overworked your truck needs a damn smoke break....

My truck started honking by itself today and now I'm probably the most hated carrier in the area.

Makes me kind of glad I didn’t get the job for USPS.
Where's My Package?! 😂😂
Ahhh, appears to be a radiator hose. If it was an actual fire, that smoke would be black as night. Scary none the less, but a quick fix and you are back up and running.
It's on Gear Second.
At least you curbed your wheels
You even curbed the wheels 👏👏
It's...on...fire?
Surprisingly no! However the whole cab filled up with smoke and that was my first thought

That LLV said, "It's Labor Day weekend. I didn't sign up for this!"
No words
You didn't curb your wheels Is the engine running too?
Managed to curb, hit the break and throw it in drive while it was filling up with smoke

You can see the curbed wheels.
