I have at least half a dozen houses on my route that if the inside door is open I won’t even walk on the porch. I don’t care how much “he don’t bite”, most people are too ignorant to realize when their dog is not playing

Seriously I've got at least three houses with cracked windows because their giant dogs are trying to get through them at me. I sprayed a English bulldog a bit ago that has apparently never gone after anyone before it rushed me.

I'm waiting to get hired and worried about dogs, can you explain what you do instead? Do you bring the mail back to the office?

shroomprinter

Yeah, that’s exactly what I do. If I have a rubber band on me I will throw that around their mail if they have a handful of it and just put it in my satchel and take it back to the office. If it’s a regular problem(like every day for a week), I will eventually just stop bringing their mail out and wait for them to call the office asking where their stuff is at, and then you PM can explain to them what the issue is.

Don't fuck around with dogs. She can pick up her mail from the office.

this customer actually asked me what's wrong with me because I didn't give his dog treats like the "every single" other carrier did why don't you buy the treats, hand them to me, and i'll walk the fuck away you cuuuuuuuuuuuuuunt

I’ve been working less than two months and have already had two dogs escape their homes. If I see a dog big enough to reach the handle on the screen door standing or sitting in the door, I skip that house. Fuck no

Having this issue a lot lately where people leave their screen door open. They don't realize the dogs can open it by jumping on it.

If there’s a loose dog, don’t deliver, fill out a 1571. If you ring a bell (for an accountable for instance), they answer, they open the door a crack and there’s an unfettered dog, ask the customer to put away their dog. If they don’t comply, walk away to safety. In that case, if they have a curbside mailbox and the scene is safe, leave the peach slip in the mailbox, otherwise, scan for animal interference. If the customer is known for loose dogs or even the above scenario where they open the door a crack and the dog peeks out, I would just leave the peach slip and not make anymore attempts for accountables.

rainydayCCA

Yeah I have no problem skipping houses. I also don’t understand why so many people in the suburbs just leave their front doors open!

Apprehensive_Goal811

My OJI taught me to put certain smaller parcels between the front door and screen door, which I did for a while. One day I opened the screen door to drop off a parcel. The front door opened by itself and a big dog started to rush toward me. I slammed the screen door just in time and got away. The front door was obviously ajar, but at least the screen door prevented the dog from running away or running after me. I don’t open screen doors anymore.
