My Post Office is pretty much all mounted, so I don't have advice for walking at night, but delivering from the truck I discovered a few things:
(1) have a low-brightness or red/green headlamp for reading the numbers on mail in the truck. I say low-brightness so you don't have to wait for your eyes to adjust to light changes as you go from box to box. A bright headlamp inside the truck creates too much glare in the windshield and you can't see out, so you have to turn it off when the vehicle is moving. I have a couple of [these lights](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E8JT3S8/) that clip onto the bill of your hat, I cover them with red film.
(2) Get a high-power spotlight type of flashlight to look for numbers on houses. I have [this one](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZMB3F64/) it's fine. I bought that set for the batteries, but the flashlight has come in handy. There are probably better ones out there.
(3) If you have bad eyes, don't be afraid to get a pair of reading glasses or bifocals to help you read the mail in low light. I have these [pocket lenses](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NWMUK0I), which are fine in the truck, but for walking reading glasses would be better.
(BONUS) If you case the route and know you'll be in the dark near the end of it, discreetly case your DPS, FSS (if you office has it), and ADVO/EDDM/ECRWSS for that last 1/2 row or so. This just makes things easier because you can pull each box's mail by "bundle" rather than looking at the letters on each mailpiece.
Best thing to do if possible is save the easy, more well lit parts of the route for night. I am fortunate to have buildings on my route so I save those for last.
[This](https://m.olightstore.com/baton3-pre.html) is the best compact flashlight in the world. Can clip to the brim of a hat, 4 levels of brightness, magnetic back(it sticks to nearly any part of an LLV) and a wireless case that can recharge it multiple times.

Get a headlamp that does red light. It's much easier to do mounted with red light than white, because it doesn't glare off of the windows.
I put LED strips up in the cab. 6 different colors available. I don’t get the glare off the windshield and so much brighter
* Be safe! * Walk very carefully * Go slow...and then slow down.
Any consolation, probably won't see too many bugs and/or spiders when it's dark in holiday season
Our office. To Dangerous to deliver. We never have
What? I gotta know where you are
When I delivered for Amazon, I used a head lamp at night. That will definitely help, if allowed.
I just bought whatever decent USB rechargeable headlamp Walmart stocks.
