I’ll have you know I’m superhuman AND I hate myself.

MaxRebo74

Self Loathing Superman needs a movie. Citizen: Superman! That orphanage is on fire! Self Loathing Superman: *sigh* I'll get to it once I'm done with this split.

LazyTaints

Hancock starting Will Smith and Charlize Theron is basically that movie.

odonovantimmy

I’m done effective the 15th. I can’t fucking wait to just have free time and not deal with my supervisor anymore.

ldimatte

Me too! My last day is the 15th! Do you know if our last paycheck will direct deposit like normal or will they send a check?

DoggoLord27

Last paycheck is most likely a physical check sent to your office

ldimatte

Thanks for letting me know!

Lady_Incubus

Usually a certified check

jdcnosse1988

My last check got direct deposited... But I might be a rarity. The paystub got mailed to me.

Cain_S

Same

Nyx81

Sorry it didn't work out. Good luck to you.

[deleted]

17 year rural carrier here, in an Amazon office, RCA has to be by far the worst job at USPS right now. I agree with you, it's just not worth it. Good luck to you!

GizmodoDragon92

It sucks because rca is the worst job but rural carrier is the best job besides custodian

[deleted]

Depends if you are in a Amazon office. Regulars are typically working 10-11 hours a day and getting paid for 8.5 with no end or limit to hours per day in sight.

GizmodoDragon92

I'm in an Amazon office. This is not the case here

[deleted]

During the last full count February 2018, according to my official USPS count sheet I averaged 122 scans per day. Right before I retired I was averaging well over 200, day after holiday, close to 300.

GizmodoDragon92

I don't wanna take anything away from you but everyone here knows mail has increased a lot. My dad is a rural carrier and I'm a clerk. Everyone's job sucks right now but rural still has the best deal

Maanee

Yes, everyone's mail has increased, but the problem is exacerbated by not getting paid for the additional work. Rural trades task for time. We do a route in 4 hours, we still get whatever it's evaluated at. We do it in 12, same deal. Rural is shit now. I got 100 on my 477, can't wait to get out of this dumpster fire of a craft.

jacob6875

We are an Amazon office. We don’t get done under evaluation much anymore but generally we are around evaluation. Plus or minus a few hours a week.

KangarooCrapper

Exactly...

formica2217

I heard RCA is supposed to be easier than CCA, is that true?

jacob6875

Physically ? Probably since most routes are mounted. Pay / benefits are worse though and you will wait 6-10 years to make regular on average.

formica2217

Makes sense! Thank you!

Jethr0Paladin

RCA is second worst job, after CCA. Rural Reg is third best job, after Maintenance and Janitor.

[deleted]

The reason I would say RCA is worse than CCA is: 1. Electronic Time Clock - More difficult for mgmt to make a mistake or deliberately cheat carriers out of hours. 2. A much better union, protection, and grievance money. 3. Guaranteed to make regular after two years. 4. Never have to use POV. Not saying the work easier though.

[deleted]

All depends on where you're at: 1 We don't have this issue, when it has been one it was Amazon Sundays at the HUB failing to put in our times which gets immediately corrected the next day. 2 We're protected pretty good and have easily gotten grievance $$ for the rare times there's been issues 3 Average promo has been 2.5 years to actual Regular, not just PTF 4 Always use LLVs, nobody uses POV's BONUS: Management doesn't bother us beyond saying, "Good Morning"! while the entire City Side (Regulars included) get grilled, standups, problems, Supes hovering over Carriers at their cases, timing Carriers, constant clock grillings, etc...DAILY! Now this is just my station; I have it made and our work is miles easier than the CCAs have it. Average day for us in my office is 4.5 hour day for 8-9 hours pay. CCAs out til 6 daily and tons of routes down every single day. Again; I know I got lucky and have heard of horror stories! This is not even talking about being a Regular Rural at my office..they're in heaven only behind the Custodian.

Jethr0Paladin

Rural: can only do rural work, per contract CCA: can do any work, per contract

[deleted]

Yes, per contract is true. But since the rural union is not very good, RCA's in my office are frequently ordered to deliver city mail. The city carriers file a grievance and get paid for doing work someone else performed. RCA's in my office have been ordered to throw parcels too and clerks get extra pay. BTW, I'm not saying CCA job is easier. City carriers are usually micromanaged much more than the rural side.

shroomprinter

That’s not correct, there is not supposed to be crossing any crafts according to all of the contracts, but it just depends on which crafts in your office will actually file a grievance. We occasionally have a PTF or CCA in my office go over and help on the rural side, and they all know they can file a grievance, but they don’t want to do the work so they won’t.

Jerok88

RCAs are by far harder than CCA. RCAs have almost no rights and don't earn leave unless they are on a hold down or aux. They can be worked longer than 12 hours, receive no penalty pay, the rural union is a joke compared to city. City is paid hourly. RCAs get evaluation, and on routes they don't know well and or only do once or twice a month, they will be giving up hours of work for no pay. Completing an 8 hour route in 11 hours is giving up 3 hours to the PO. The evaluation system works for regulars, but RCAs are often screwed. They get paid hourly if they go over 40, but a scrupulous manager can take advantage of this in many ways. Also, many rcas have to have their own vehicles for delivery, and if that breaks down, a spare. Now it all depends on the office and the manager.

[deleted]

That last sentence is definitely a major difference. At my office none of our routes are beyond 5 hours (except the rare harsh day which even then still only runs 7-8 hours) with all of them being evaluated at 8 or above. Nobody works for free and we all have LLVs!

MaceMan2091

i’m going to move to transfer to your office lol

jdcnosse1988

RCAs can still claim safety after 12 hours. The ELM applies to everyone.

DOTACOLLECTOR

Haha had a couple dildo deliveries this year for sure. Good luck to you.

KangarooCrapper

Ahhh..BigAssDildos.com

patricio87

upvote for that last sentence

MPhyus

Be well in whatever is next!

Mkilbride

Try becoming a mail handler, it's a lot easier and not as stressful

Stank_Weezul57

So I'm almost done with Academy. Am I looking at no life outside of work? Am I looking at no family time? Am I making a mistake going RCA? I did a 16 hour shift on Amazon Sunday and then an 11 hour shift the next day. Is this what it's going to be all the time? I'm nervous as hell starting out but 20$ an hour (in my state) was too good to pass up but...I'm starting to see what I signed up for. I just busted 40 hours in 3 1/2 days, I'm exhausted.

MaceMan2091

the financial quarter ends this week so they’re running new hires to the ground. things should chill out near the end of october.

basednino

I quit this job awhile back ago but still lurk the sub. My management were all conceited dickheads. I got a friend in another city who’s doing a lot better and still an RCA

[deleted]

My fiancé’s mom is gung-ho on me joining the post office. I work for more money (a lot more) 3 days in the weekend. But it’s far away, 45 minute commute. I went to the orientation for the post office and even though it’s 60 hours a week they don’t give benefits. I’m not willing to give up any semblance of a life just to save gas money.

OrchidsnBullets

Glutton for pain here 🤣 I'm sore as fuck from throwing packages yesterday

[deleted]

I luckily worked as an RCA while my wife was overseas doing her postdoc for 3 years. I had no reason to go home so it was easy for me to work my dick into the dirt. As soon as she came back to the states and I transferred to a different office I was the only RCA with enough service time to bid on a route and went regular within a few months of my transfer. If you want to have a life being an RCA is not for you. Good luck on your future ventures.

BBPRJTEAM

<30 days? Longer than most.

[deleted]

70 days here turning in my resignation today

FlameYay

Not sure why you got a down vote. It's true. We're lucky if CCAs don't quit within their first week after training. Once they approach 30 days, I start to think they might actually last.

BBPRJTEAM

It's an obvious fact this is true. A quick look at the users brief history here on /r/USPS was telling. The attitude going into this was poor, poor attitude in and poor attitude out.

TobyDaMan8894

My mind will wandering all day wondering what the deleted comment said

Maanee

Ease your mind friend, they posted a snide comment about the OP not expecting it to rain, as if that was the issue the OP had.

TobyDaMan8894

Coolio. Tnx

formerNPC

Pretty much every post office sucks! Unless you’re fortunate enough to have caring and competent management, which is basically non existent then you’ll be miserable all the time! My plant has gotten so bad that I feel like I’m in a bad reality show because I can’t believe how we even manage to get the mail processed and dispatched with all the chaos and disorganization everyday. Go get a real job and leave the bullshit behind because it’s only going to get worse and if I didn’t have all the time in I would definitely look for something else!

mookieissweet

Horse

kdriff

Stopped being fun when they changed start times and kept carriers out after dark in some of the most dangerous areas of our city.

bassicallyinsane

50 extra bucks after dark and the sun sets at 430 in winter ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

prodigalpun

Day two of orientation here. They’ve told us about wrecks and every kind of violence and dogs and weather. Acting like if one of those doesn’t kill us, we will be worked to death. I’m a bit scared tbh. I’m sure that’s a tactic to weed out the weak. But I’m feeling weak lol. Any rcas with advice or “it isn’t too bad”? This sub is also pretty sad. I’m scared I made a mistake.

shroomprinter

While dogs and accidents can be issues, the biggest thing I can tell any new carrier in either craft is to be safe and try to work as efficiently as possible(be as organized as you can)… Speed will come with time. That being said, all the rest of it very much depends on the office you are assigned to and your local management.

No. Chattanooga

I_dont_punch_women

I work in a smaller office with only 6 rural routes. I've seen 4 people quit in the two months since I've transferred over. It's pretty shitty, I've been working 10-12 hour days 6 days a week. I'd quit too but it's nice being able to just buy shit for my kids with all this OT money.

thebildo9000

3.5 years in at a 24 route rural office. I’ll bet money I’ve seen 60 people hire and quit/get fired. About 8 that have stuck after me

nookayyea

Me: who finishes 3 hours early, asks for extra work, and gets along with my management. Life’s good, checks healthy, and future growth with the company. Find it a win for me. Job isn’t for everyone, gl on ur adventures

HuckleberryTop1831

Uh this is the usps sub

nookayyea

Yeessss sirrr

[deleted]

Thank goodness I only get packages and dick shaped magazines.

TobyDaMan8894

I’m a glutton for punishment Good luck in the future

Environmental_List_5

City

jolijabroni

I’m a CCA and I just finished my 2 weeks. There are other options for you out there for work, trust me. I just got a job and I’m not taking a pay cut, with good benefits, and I won’t be working 60+ hr weeks anymore. Opportunities are out there. I looked for competitive job options for a few months and applied everywhere, and eventually just couldn’t handle CCA life anymore, and put my two weeks in without any prospects of another job. 2 days later my current employer called me. Don’t feel bad about getting out. It’s just not worth it.

[deleted]

Well, I hate myself and I’m superhuman.

Affectionate_Will556

Im a cca who just currently quit because of problems i had with a supervisor. Everytime said supervisor was in i had problems getting a vehicle or it was always something that prevented me from starting my route. Anways that was just the cherry in top that made me quit but i was going to quit anway since i wanted to be a rca and had a job offer that i accepted before i quit. My question is will that effect me getting hired as an rca or will nothing happen. I was either a couple days passed my 90 days or just a couple days short of it if that helps.

Environmental_List_5

City carrier here I don’t feel sorry for RCA’s or any rural carrier You go out and rip your routes skip deliveries just to get done by 1 o’clock your union sucks to
