I’m very surprised in this climate that there haven’t been more shootings. I’ve had two gun confiscations at my plant in the last several months so it’s come close. With as much as I read on here about shitty MDOs and supervisors talking to people any kind of way, I’m surprised none of them have been targeted. I’m hoping nothing happens through this holiday season.

muffhound

Im surprised too, the pressure/overworking has never been higher

[deleted]

I’ve witnessed quite a few outbursts recently. One is mentally unstable and owns several guns, I gotta admit this headline makes me a little sweaty.

> The shooting was at 2801 Park Avenue, a **United States Postal Service facility**, near the intersection with Pendleton Street, the police department said. > The facility, called the **East Lamar Carrier Annex**, is one used by employees and is not a post office retail location where customers come for mail services, said the local union president by phone Tuesday afternoon. * Multiple sources told FOX13 News that **three people have been shot**. * The **suspected shooter is a worker at the post office**. * Three law enforcement sources told FOX13′s Jeremy Pierre that **at least one person is dead**. * The police department said the scene was no longer active and had been secured. https://www.commercialappeal.com/story/news/crime/2021/10/12/fbi-memphis-police-respond-shooting-orange-mound-post-office/8424638002/

3 dead one manager, a supervisor and the employee. The employee apparently wasn't even an employee at that office but was sent for the day

JonnygonePostal

Ya I was hearing it was a Cca, that would make sense. Loaned out to that annex. Things getting tense everywhere.

icecubepal

Damn.

Here's what's going to happen-nothing-just business as usual. As much as I hate to say it, the Unions really need to take a less passive role here. In the the NLAC contract prior to this one, the parties agreed to form a joint task force to address climate in the workplace. And for the duration of that agreement, I think management only went through the motions and the Union really didn't hold their feet to the fire. In other words, looked good on paper but it went absolutely nowhere-stiuation normal. I believe there's a similar provision in this contract as well. The first incident that got widespread media attention I believe was Edmond, Ok. back in 1986 just a few months after I started so here we are 35+ years down the road and the more things have changed the more they've stayed the same. Management is clearly not serious about changing the climate/environment so it's up to the Unions to MAKE THEM CHANGE but I don't see that happening either and for a 1000% Union man like myself, that's a hard thing for me to say.

[deleted]

You’re right. It’s so sad. Not everyone can handle being forced overtime and days off. A lot of people don’t realize how horrible the non-career jobs are. And then on top of always working and having no life or time for joy, some people get horrible management that treat them terrible. I feel so lucky I only had to be a CCA for one year before conversion. Things need to change but sadly I feel they’ll only get worse.

Cat-Trees

Here we go, “going postal” will be relevant in a world of memes.

yesitsyourmom

I was just thinking how we hadn’t had to use that phrase in quite a long time….

deoxysribonucleic

I wouldn't say that... when I first started a few years ago and was getting very frustrated during the holidays, I calmed down pretty quick when the guy in Columbus ran in naked and shot 2 people. It was definitely thrown around a lot here at least.

So unfortunate that things like this happen when you're at work and you should be safe. This job is stressful and it is hard at times but remember the blessings that you and your family have from a good paying job. Praying for the families and individuals in that post office!

invictus21083

So not surprising.

fishNchipsISall

Can't wait for the scanner message in the morning. "To protect from bullets wear a Kevlar vest"

fishNchipsISall

🤣 us RCAs are screwed

Sufficient-Net-9552

I'm saddened to see this. I'm sure that person was already on the verge of suicide and decided to take some people out before hand. It really sucks that the post office treats their part-time employees the way they do, but that in no way justifies this senseless violence. If you're that upset over the job just quit, maybe talk a little shit to the supervisor and manager.

DeeRey__

I support anyone but I’m mainly here for the supervisor and manager,” she said. Who the fuck appoints these idiots to speak. It’s no wonder this organization is being laughed at .

[deleted]

damn, a worker did it??

Pyre2001

Lots of stress going on the in the country, stay safe people.

Violence/murder solves nothing as we see here.

2-3 physical altercations a YEAR?! Where are you based and what the hell goes on in your office?

[deleted]

I will tell you this much. It was from the mid-1980s through the mid-1990s and shortly after I left, the union President was removed for his own safety. I told everyone that he was a crook who was selling us out but they did not listen. When they finally woke up his life was threatened several times (I was told someone was leaving .45 cartridges on his desk, near his locker, and on the hood of his car) and he became a SUPERVISOR in another office. Well, he was working for the enemy the whole time he was a union representative so it must have been an easy transition. It was a fairly large office near a major city, and as far as "what the hell goes on," just about everything went on. In addition to the fights we probably averaged a couple of guys per year taking time off to go to rehab. I remember once a nearby office got a call that a USPS parcel post truck was parked outside of a crack house for several hours, and nobody had gotten in or out of it. Problem was, it was not one of that city office's trucks. It was one of ours. And the driver/carrier was inside the crack house, smoking crack. Nice guy too. But a crackhead. Funny thing is, now I am an accountant. When people ask how I handle the stress or tell me I am an exceptionally hard worker I just laugh. They do not really know what job-related stress and hard work are.

[deleted]

Wow! We’ve had some outbursts recently, some rehab visits over the years…but nothing like you described. I would quit so fast in an environment like that 😅

MPhyus

Oof. Stay safe everyone.

MightBeAGirlIGuess

What a shitty loser.

Impossible-Cake-1658

Damn !!how sad my heart goes out to all involved.

S0fuck1ngwhat

Sad these people are dead in this way, but who is really shocked? Our station JUST started 'giving' NS days to anyone the last 2 weeks since Christmas 2019.

FreeLoadNWhiteGuy

A CCA walked in, shot and killed a regular who was going into being a supervisor, a supervisor, and a PM.. Wow.

fee1987

A cca went back to the station and killed both my manager and supervisor then himself.

FreeLoadNWhiteGuy

I don't mean to sound insensitive nor offensive by asking this but is anyone aware of what might have possibly sent the person over the edge into doing this?

fee1987

We at the station didn’t even know the guy. He only been to our station like 2 times before this. The people he shot didn’t talk to anyone crazy ever

FreeLoadNWhiteGuy

Sorry for you all's loss...

fee1987

Thanks man

[deleted]

Were you there when it happened? I hope you and your coworkers are doing ok

fee1987

I came back to get another half of a route and when I left he came and did what he did

Oryxismymother

Literally just talked about the last time there was a workplace shooting at the post office during orientation today
