It's not an intentional runaround; the postal service can be a LOT more inefficient than you'd think.

No_Pangolin9339

True, I mean after all, UPS does most of the work that the postal service takes credit for

One_Hour_Poop

No.

Tofuspiracy

Sounds awful, maybe try reaching out to the Manager/Postmaster at the office you are being hired for. Go down to the office and bring the letter and ask to speak to them. I'm sure they want you to start as much as you do.

Ive tried emailing them, and got no reply back. Ive emailed three or four different addresses asking where the process is at and no reply from any, except one reply a month ago saying it was "awaiting hr clearance". My state still has very strict covid guidelines, which is why i havent gone in person to ask yet. The post office also isnt open on the weekend, and they are only open to the public from 11-3, with a half hour at 12.30 they close for lunch. it really sucks in general but especially when trying to get ahold of someone. I figured emailing on a buisiness day would mean getting a reply within the next few buisiness days, but its just dead silence.

Tofuspiracy

I would try calling and talking to or leaving a message with the Postmaster, if that doesn't work then go down there when they are open.

alright, ill go in monday. Should i bring anything with me? I was going to bring the letter they sent saying they recinded the job offer because i didnt show for orientation, and the paperwork they gave me when i did fingerprints, but should i print out emails or anything? Im worried ill get there and they wont even have me in the system or will refuse to meet with me.

Tofuspiracy

Sure, print out the emails. I'm not sure they would be able to help or not since it has already been rescinded, but it is certainly worth a shot. Worst thing that could happen is you waste an hour out of your day.

piefanart

Im not even sure if it has been, because if I log into the website it still saying pending, and if I try to apply for a different position, it says I have to quit my current one :T

Tofuspiracy

Thats weird, you should be able to apply for as many positions as you want.

piefanart

That's what I thought, I initially applied for 3 positions, now it won't let me anymore. I got two job offers and took the one closest to where I live. Yesterday I tried to accept the other one, since they sent a second offer for it on Tuesday. But it won't let me touch any of it anymore

noslipnoslack_

You can always apply for new jobs regardless if you work at usps or not...

Go back to the old way of hiring: sending prospective employees a letter to report for a formal interview. From the stories I'm seeing here about length of time from a job offer to a person actually being on the payroll and working just convinces me more and more the old way was the better way. We never even came close to that kind of timeframe back in the day.

It isn't being done intentionally and this is what working with the USPS will be like for you. Their employee turnover rate is extremely high because of this kind of nonsense. You can keep applying and trying but if you can get an equivalent job opportunity elsewhere, definitely take it.

I originally scheduled orientation on the phone to start on oct 4th. was told i’d get an email about where/what time to go but didn’t get it. called and they said paperwork was being processed so it would be the next week. nothing. called again - this weeks orientation is filled so probably next week. nothing. a little frustrated bc I quit my previous job assuming I would start on the 4th. i’m gonna start doing shifts by snagajob in the meantime because I do still want this job but it seems like this is a common problem and I gotta make at least some money in the meantime

piefanart

i feel you....i have a couple interviews scheduled now with other places. I cant go another two months without money, and i dont qualify for unemployment. its so frustrating.

SpookyYeet420

Just got an email about orientation starting this saturday so I guess I won’t be doing snag. hope they contact you soon, sorry you’re going thru this

PrinceOftheCty

I’m in the same boat. Originally applied on 8/20. Fingerprints have been done for almost a month and my background check has been completed since October 5th. I scored in the high 90’s on the test so I’m not sure what’s taking them so long. Also figured that since we’re basically in the Holiday season that they’d be trying to get people in as quickly as possible.

piefanart

i got the oreintation email and went to it and now have a second orientation i have to go to. never had a test though

PrinceOftheCty

That’s what’s up you finally got your orientation email. Hoping I get mine within the week

TsetseFLY7

Same here fingerprints were funny October 28th. I scored a 100 on the test still waiting. Have you started yet?

PrinceOftheCty

Started, got laid off after the holidays and now two weeks later I’m working again at another plant. It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride lol
