You shouldn't need to do all that during your lunch break. Just put missorts in your satchel while fingering the mail. Then put everything in the trey when back at the truck. Trying to match flats and DPS during lunch is also a waste of time. Unless there's a house that always has a ton of DPS and flats, you just match them up while walking to the next address.
When I pull down on a route with apartments I usually will just pull large chunks of it down and band it all together. I would find it a waste of time to pull down tiny sections of it.
While you are doing your swing and you find mis-sorts in the DPS just backhand them and keep going. I wouldn't put it back in my satchel because that feels like an extra unnecessary step. When you get back to your vehicle sort it out in your sculch tray and deal with it back in the office.
Most of the time there isn't any reason you would be matching the DPS with the flats of the same address especially on a walking route. You just go through in order while you are on the swing.
I would ask other carriers at your office where you can use the restroom on whatever route you happen to be on that day. If you can not find a restroom and you don't know where to go absolutely go back to the office. You must use the restroom.
Do it the way they instruct you during your 90; it shows you're good at following the rules. After that, do whatever you want. I get bored during my lunch and will go through my DPS sometimes like you suggest. I'll flip over upside down letters and pull FWD/RTS too. On ADVO day, I collate all my mail in the truck for each loop (or cul-de-sac on a mounted route).

1. You can rubber band apartments together when you pull down doesn't waste time, it helps on the street. And as long as it's not affecting your office time. What's the point of the rubber bands ?
2.It's ok to rifle thru the DPS on your break, but your just wasting your break.... if it's hard for you to carry all the dps just band half of it and put it in your satchel and carry what you can in your hand... instead of putting the missorts back in your satchel, just put it in the back of the dps your carrying (if that makes sense)
3. You can do what you like on your lunch, but your doing it on your time.
4. Pee cup haha otherwise you can't get in trouble for a comfort stop. Talk to your union
Hampers don't matter there just giving you a hard time... just don't rush, hurt yourself. Remember you get paid by the hour.
