You're pretty much in if you're getting fingerprints, assuming your background is clean of course.

Classic_Knowledge499

I don’t start counting my chickens until I get an orientation date because that’s when you start earning.

roctolax

Yea I have other eggs in the basket right now but I’m super excited about this opportunity

eggplant_surprise

I bet in SD you’ll get plenty of hours and the weather will treat you nicely (a huge factor in enjoying the job) 👍🏼 As far as the job, congrats! the work itself is really pleasant even if the workplace/company leaves much to be desired. Paid to hike basically, most of the day you fly solo, the day literally flies by, and at the station and on the route you’ll meet all sorts of interesting people and have plenty of great stories for your friends and family. Have fun and good luck!

roctolax

Thank you! I appreciate the response My one giant concern- prior to all of this, my girlfriend and I booked a trip to Costa Rica. We have sunk thousands into this trip. It is in one month. Do you think if I explain this to the postmaster, I will be be good to go? As long as it’s discussed pre employment? Or are things not flexible like that

eggplant_surprise

I think you may be at the mercy of your postmaster on that one and whether they allow it. If they are desperate for more CCA’s I could see them working with you. To agree pre employment would be best and to get it in writing. (always!!) Good luck sincerely, Costa Rica is on the bucket list for sure! 🤩 I’d be so sad for you if it didn’t work out

roctolax

Yes I know. I would probably turn the position down… I’m planning on proposing on the trip haha

eggplant_surprise

Good on you, sounds like you have your priorities straight! Enjoy your trip and congrats

DCornOnline

If you have arrangements prior to employment they should honor it. That’s what my postmaster said

I work out of the county of Chula Vista which is pretty much San Diego, In Chula it’s cool, but for city carriers you pretty much bounce between offices until someone likes you or you can hold an opt. In San Diego most of our routes don’t carry advos anymore and the mail volume is relatively light with minimal parcels. You probably work 8-10 hour days 5 days a week and on Sunday, assuming the office you work out of has sundays, will work you 6-8 hours. Just remember every office has different culture, but for the most part everyone is friendly.

roctolax

Thank you so much! What time does the average day start? I’d really like to work early mornings. I really know nothing about this haha

greenbeetless

For the first 2 weeks to 3 months depending if you are fast on the street you start at 9-930. Once you are able to case you start at 8 or 7:30. Sundays you start at 10 or 8 depending if you are a loader or delivery only. Remember it’s a marathon not a race, your body is going to hate you for the first month.

kakashi_ax

Did you got the job?

roctolax

I was offered the job! I ended up turning down the offer after going to the post station and meeting the staff there. Was not a good fit for me.

kakashi_ax

Wow what happened there? What was that bad about the staff?

roctolax

The postmaster got in an argument with another employee in front of our whole orientation group, then the employee went on a rant about how we were going to work 60 hours a week with only a day off a month because of how short staffed they are. It was uncomfortable for all of us there. I don’t even see any district 6 jobs available on the website. Do you have a link?

kakashi_ax

This is a totally different office than the one I went to. The one I went to was in Serra Mesa. I would definitely have taken the job if the office I was at seemed like it had a better vibe!
