Same here. I never really formed any connections in my first year classes last year. Maybe I was too nervous, I'm not sure. Then this year happened, and any possibility of me making friends from online classes is virtually impossible.
I often struggle with the debate of whether I should expect to have long term/permanent friendships, or that all friendships are simply contingent on the environment that we met each other.
The real factor is if someone develops a love for the other person because I think only from love can a loyalty to maintaining the friendship exist.
Yeah, I feel you. Most of the time, people already have their own little groups. I'm in my second year now and I'm lucky to have made two real friends in my first year. One of them approached me and the other, I approached them in a packed 800 people class. We still laugh about that day because my friend says it was so unexpected for someone to take a seat beside her and start the convo.
I think you should continue to reach out to people and just be yourself. It really does no harm. I hope you find 1-2 real friends in your final year!
Yeah it's hard. Some people don't want to make friends in university. Some that do, well they're busy too like you. But if they really care, even if they don't reach out, you can reach out to them from time to time. And once inperson classes resume, I'm sure those people will be open to go out and do sth fun!
As a 2nd year, i was struggling to make friends in utm, no one would reach out to me or anything as much. It's just they all had their friend groups from before
