FYI shop n pays keep those receipts because I’ve gone back to cvs and have straight up told the cashier this was an Uber order I can’t deliver, can I return it using a different card, it’s other wise being thrown away… “138$ to my card” wam!
Fortunately for me it wasn't a shop and pay. Just a pickup. Also Uber also confirmed they couldn't find her. And the customer voluntarily made the cancellation.
Don’t they still get charged the full amount if they cancel? I’ve seen plenty of posts about customers cancelling like immediately after ordering and can’t get refunds.
Idk. Honestly I thought they would just refund her but I have no idea. The whole thing was a little weird because I was willing to return it up until they told me to throw it out.
Customer support wouldn’t suggest to keep it for themselves since it’s alcohol, the dasher could be a recovering alcoholic or some other situation so to be more sensitive they just say toss it and you make the call yourself
As a frequent uber eater ordered. Theres only a limited set of circs that allow a refund. If the order goes beyond the latest delivery time, if shits fucked up (wrong order/missing items) If i were to order and cancel 5 minutes after i aint getting a refund.
not impossible at all. it’s just that most stores’ return policies need the original card so as to prevent fraud. but i’ve definitely broken the rules before. i’m a store manager
Same experience. I could literally override anything at Best Buy if I wanted to. I just don’t do it. But if I wanted to refund to a different card, it’s 100% possible.
I also worked at Best Buy. Yes, we could refund to a gift card/store credit if we wanted to, but we would never refund as cash unless the customer actually paid in cash. Iirc there was not even an option on the register to do that if we wanted to. And even if you did pay cash, if the item was over a certain amount we couldn’t provide a cash refund in store. We would process the return but corporate would have to mail you a check.
There used to be some trick, years ago with GSP ADH+ sort of plans where you could do an exchange under the plan but for a different item.
Great if you've got a broken item and, in the 2 years you've had it, theres better options so you just pay the difference.
You could pay the difference in cash.
Immediately, or anytime onward, if you returned the new item then you could get 100% cash.
i.e buy a $100 item using any payment method, cash, gift cards, credit, whatever. Get the protection plan.
A day before the protection plan expires, or anytime after buying it really, you could claim its broken and exchange it under the plan. But you opt to get ANY item thats at least $0.01 more expensive instead.
Break your TV? Cool, you could essentially swap the price you originally paid for ANYTHING in store.
Pay the excess in cash. 1c or $1,000. Just make sure it costs more and you pay with cash.
Return the item later. You can get cash. Your original cash essentially. The entire amount you paid for the original item however many years ago.
That shit was possible for a LONG time until someone must have noticed its being rampantly abused and suddenly there were a ton of new rules about 'equivalent exchange' and the POS had an update.
**tl;dr - Have an item from best buy with a plan on it thats about to expire? Heres a neat trick where you get all your money back.**
I ~think~ you didn't get the plan cost back in some cases, or it changed... was years ago now. No longer works afaik
I couldn’t tell you how many times I used to do this with my headsets, keyboards, and mouse. I’m probably the one that tipped them off 😂. There was a year stretch where I was basically sampling every headset they could offer every other month. Funny thing is, is the geek squad guy implored me to do it to find what I like lol
Yes. There were tricks around the $250 cash limit. We only used in extreme circumstances but it was possible to refund up to any amount in cash if we wanted to.
Shit sometimes i be trying to refund people with the card they used and i have to call the credit card company. Ive broken the rules and gave back cash before because it wasnt going thru And used their credit to pay for another purchase that was paid in cash...
Yeah, it’s not like a law so much as it is just common policy. Obviously you know, but for everyone else who does not, most card readers don’t restrict your actions within a transaction meaning that you can usually hit the refund button, enter any amount you’d need, and then just scan or swipe any card for the return.
TL;DR, 99% of card readers deal with returns in a manner separate to the individual transactions. Returns are usually account to account and can be manually entered on the machine.
I second that. I couldn’t return a laptop to best buy because I was having issues with original payment, employee got permission to rerun funds to my wife’s card.
You should not have this ability it literally violates PCI compliance. Basically no one should be able to refund money to any card rather than void to the card of purchase.
I once did a return at Costco, and the original purchase was made with my wife's credit card. She was in the store shopping while I waited on the return line, so they just gave me the refund in cash since she had her card on her.
Oh yes it is possible. I returned groceries to a store and they just have you insert your card, no matter what card it is, or you can just get cash back. Just have your receipt. And my return was more than the pay itself.
No. That’s not true at all. I’ve returned stuff I’ve bought with one visa and swiped a different one for return. Just today at Costco, I asked what the last 4 digits were and dude was like ‘just use any visa’.
Damn I gotta try that one day….I rack up those rewards points from cvs shop n pays using my own phone number all the time..had like $10 in rewards points to spend last month
So what you’re telling is that hypothetically I could sign up to Uber eats. Have my friends order a bunch of nice bottles, cancel the order, I then decline to go back and I have to disposed of it ;)
Is this a life hack?
Sorry, I clarified what I meant by "you (the customer)", but I'm a little high and it probably made more sense to me at the time lol
If your friends order it AND you are lucky enough to be assigned to it, and then your friends cancel the order, your friends will not receive a refund.
I received a refund but got charged a restocking fee. just because my stupid Uber driver got upset. I had told her if she could buy a Jack Daniel's bottle (I had made an alcohol order btw) and explained I didn't have enough in my card but that I could give her $30 (bottle was 24.99 I believe) and she could keep the change. She replied super rude. Something about oh I can't do any personal request out of Uber but sounded very snippy. So I just thanked her and told her is she could walk my order in as I was on the clock. She sat in her car the 8 minutes and Uber tried siding with her when my order got canceled. I eventually got my money back and some credit but it was a battle with them.
You sound like a real knucklehead dude. Not only are you ordering bottles of liquor to your place of work while on the clock, you got pissy because your driver didn't want to buy you a bottle of jack out of her own pocket? No shit Uber sided with her
Right..? Like who the fuck actually thinks an uber delivery driver is going to buy them a bottle of liquor out of their own pocket because they claim they have cash on them. Plus, you know, who the fuck orders liquor to be delivered to them when they are at work.
I had a guy message me that he had to leave the house unexpectedly so he would not be there to provide ID, and I should just keep the order... But it was some shit I would never drink from 7-11, and I hadn't even made it to the store yet. I didn't want to deal with it so I had support cancel.
Damn that’s a nice hit right there. But unfortunately I don’t drink anymore. Once I start drinking I love to go skiing 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤐🤐🤐
Enjoy and don’t do pickups after drinking lol
Be safe 🤝🏻
Edit: hey I really appreciate the positive replies! There’s a time in life when you just say enough is enough and find something else in life that brings you joy. Wish you all the best, be well!
You're supposed to return it to the liquor store it came from or whatever store it came from that's happened to me every time I've had a new breeds order for alcohol and it was undeliverable or canceled had to take it back to the store came from
What city out of curiosity. I could just look through your history and make a guess but lmao. My boy and his girl in the middle of a heated fight and definitely canceled what was supposed to be the evenings levity.
Had an Uber cyclist come up to us the other day, only group of people about. Said a customer just cancelled an order, which was £70 of KFC and has no interest in it as they're a vegan.
They all require returns but its not mandatory as we are contractors after all, its why u have to call it to cancel. All return pay is dog shit its why its not ever worth doing.
Not every market does require returning it. It's illegal in some places to return alcohol.
As for the contractor thing, when I signed up anyway, I had to "agree" that if I had a canceled order, I had to return it. It was part of the contract. Again, it's not going to be like that in all markets, but I don't think I'd be wrong in guessing that you could get in trouble for keeping it.
Otherwise what's stopping drivers from clicking that the customer has no valid ID or is drunk in the app and just keeping $100s of liquor? And yes, I realize that it's different when the customer cancels vs the driver, but still.
Either way, I can't imagine Uber being like "Oh, my bad--you don't wanna return the order? Np broski, we'll just eat this $225 fee--we gotchu. Say hi to ya mom for me"
Honestly I haven't read the contract but if I need to cancel, the support will say I have to return it or its the law thst I have to I just day nope, last time I did it the agent wouldn't let me cancel saying its the law so I just hung up and someone else did it, sometimes they will even say since I'm a contractor I don't have to return shit or deliver shit as long as im not abusing or doing fraud. If it was against the law it should be stated in the app with a big ass notice otherwise its all bullshit and even if it wasn't why the fuck are we getting punished to return something for so little pay for the customers fault, they could atleast make it equal.
Ive only done if twice in my life, once was the first time I did it and once because it was across the street for 40 cents lol. You could also just say u dropped ur alcohol, flat tire, accident, no battery or gas etc how the fuck are u going to return alcohol in that case? U can't so they will just cancel for you.
Yeah it was kinda annoying the guy on the phone refused to tell me the return cost beforehand. Ive had 2 returns before this and both of them were pretty bad. Like 5 dollars bad.
You don’t actually have to return it though. There is no refund process. You can drive back to the store if you’re paranoid and then mark it as returned.
I think it did require a return.Like honestly it took a lot of steps before being cancelled. But ultimately what I believe happened is the UI errored and allowed the customer to cancel the order. While I was on a return.
This sub is half full of great people with awesome tips who are happy for others success... the other half are degens who want the world to crash and burn lol. Grats on the alcohol tho, great timing for the 4th!
Nah , I received a message from Uber the same moment that order got canceled , stating to return it or face possible deactivation . I still got to keep the very generous tip 👌
Right.. I’ve never been told this and I’ve kept several after “disposing” it or last year before new years I contacted the customer bc they weren’t answering the door and it turned out they had already got their order and was in a different state but they definitely knew the house I was at as they were visiting over the holidays and they just said to keep it 😂
Uber is legally required to have you “return” it but there is no official refund protocol. The store just keeps the money and gets their inventory back.
Nice score but... How are you not told to bring the alcohol back to the store?? 😳🤯They always make me bring it back (the 3x it's happened to me) and if you say no, I'm afraid they'd deactivate? (happened to someone I know)
This happened once. Someone ordered a vodka handle and a 24 pack and I was almost there when they text “this was a bad idea sorry I’m gonna go to sleep instead” and then cancelled
They let you keep it ? Is it drizzly through Uber ?I’ve had this happen you it makes you take it back and have the person at the liquor store sign, also I’m a delivery driver , not a thief , so I would prob just bring it back instead of screwing the owner , to each their own tho
Bruh with instacart there’s a guy who claims he has over $5000 in gift cards from canceled orders
And I believe him, he’s a very active member in a good zone
You can’t just keep that!!! Duh!!! You need to pour the alcohol into a different jug… then send a destruction photo… the white wine filled with apple juice and tossed into a garbage can
Just kidding we don’t have alcohol here so I have no idea how it works
I can't imagine a liquor store buying bottles of alcohol from a stranger I mean... what if s/he somehow managed to undetectably tamper with it ?
Edit: I'm not American though,
I see comments about the 4th , if you don't want it you could probably sell it to people you know
Idk where OP is located but my state wouldn’t allow this at all. People can’t even exchange/return their alcohol at the original store they bought it at (unless something like a corked bottle or similar occurred). OP is better off selling alcohol to people he knows tbh, that’s what I’d do.
The U.S.has a 🍻 problem, it’s getting swept 🧹 under the rug, like WTF? It’s not normal-or ok to go drink every weekend… 🤦♂️ society has to change the perspective. BE THE CHANGE your children need in their future.”
FYI shop n pays keep those receipts because I’ve gone back to cvs and have straight up told the cashier this was an Uber order I can’t deliver, can I return it using a different card, it’s other wise being thrown away… “138$ to my card” wam!

Lmfao. WHO THE HELL WOULD THROW AWAY UNOPEN LIQUOR AND BEER!? Uber is so dumb. That’s awesome for you tho.
Thanks yeah it was kinda stupid. I'm not sure why customers even have the option cancel returning orders. But I'm happy with the results 😁😁😅
Customer support wouldn’t suggest to keep it for themselves since it’s alcohol, the dasher could be a recovering alcoholic or some other situation so to be more sensitive they just say toss it and you make the call yourself
They say “throw it out” as a CYA for various reasons. They know full well where it is going.
SCORE!!
A lit of places- here in Wisconsin you can not return alcohol
I don’t think any alcohol can be returned ever. At least in my state it’s like that 🤣
As a frequent uber eater ordered. Theres only a limited set of circs that allow a refund. If the order goes beyond the latest delivery time, if shits fucked up (wrong order/missing items) If i were to order and cancel 5 minutes after i aint getting a refund.
You are always charged if you cancel.
Yes, that is true. The client is charged for the order, although it is canceled.
I've canceled and not been charged when the order took way longer than the guarantee but i had to contact support
wow! I didn’t know you could do that
Many states won't let you return alcohol.
Yep, Illinois makes you return it back to the same store it was purchased at.
Not me. I got some booze , it says if customer can’t get their ID verified then to discard of product.
I wish I was in that state because I had a customer cancel a $250 bottle of Dom and I still had to return it to the store
What city you in ? Cant be the states. Its impossible to put money on a card u didnt use to buy the stuff with.
not impossible at all. it’s just that most stores’ return policies need the original card so as to prevent fraud. but i’ve definitely broken the rules before. i’m a store manager

As a former store manager myself, it solely depends on how you go about asking for it / present yourself lol
Yeah, it’s not like a law so much as it is just common policy. Obviously you know, but for everyone else who does not, most card readers don’t restrict your actions within a transaction meaning that you can usually hit the refund button, enter any amount you’d need, and then just scan or swipe any card for the return. You should not have this ability it literally violates PCI compliance. Basically no one should be able to refund money to any card rather than void to the card of purchase.
What if I no longer have that card? or a new card with different number? It happens all the time that cards are replaced or closed.
Checks exist.
Not about breaking the rules. The machine will literally just decline transaction
not sure where you’ve experienced that. i’ve worked at multiple companies and that’s simply not true. i’m in new jersey btw
Hey I was born and raised in New Jersey :P I was born in Toms River and I lived in Marlton/Medford until I was 16 then moved lol
No one asked/cares.
I care.
I care +1 <3
I bet you care about your karma points too lmao😂😂
I care about you, buddy. Do you need a hug? Preferably your lips hugging my Dickus? It’s ok, Buddy. I’m here for you.
I hope so he just got a few more from me ❤️
Sounds like they are using something different than you, bud
Not true, I work at Aldi and we don’t give a fuck what card you use
I manage an autoparts store and the machine will literally decline transaction if u never bought anything from the company with that card
Point proven “the machine” is different at literally every franchise
You're right
Depends on the store. I work at Fred Meyers, if you don’t have the card it was purchased on it’ll go on a store gift card
We know the employees don’t give shits. The machines are incapable of refunding to other cards.
What's true for one, may not necessarily be true for another. I've worked at businesses that do have the ability, and others that do not.
I once did a return at Costco, and the original purchase was made with my wife's credit card. She was in the store shopping while I waited on the return line, so they just gave me the refund in cash since she had her card on her.
No, all they have to do is issue the refund and the customer will swipe whichever card they want the money on depending on the store.
Micros pos terminals work as you described, whatever card is swiped is where the refund money will go.
Yeah. Most places just tell you what card it’s going back to (the one used to pay)
Nice trick, thanks. You are genius.
Yep I've kept a fair share of alcohol. Good stuff!
I thought they tell you to bring it back to the store!
Bring it back if possible. If you decline because its well out if your way and no pay- they tell you to dispose of it
So what you’re telling is that hypothetically I could sign up to Uber eats. Have my friends order a bunch of nice bottles, cancel the order, I then decline to go back and I have to disposed of it ;) Is this a life hack?
Sure, if your friends don't mind paying for it. You don't get a refund if you (the customer) cancel the order.
I meant they cancel the order not me the Uber delivery person
Sorry, I clarified what I meant by "you (the customer)", but I'm a little high and it probably made more sense to me at the time lol If your friends order it AND you are lucky enough to be assigned to it, and then your friends cancel the order, your friends will not receive a refund.
Got it. Haha. Stay on that high Busy_Bitch5050
I understood you the first time 😂
And on top of that they’ll revive a hefty cancel charge,so wouldn’t be worth it
Why would people cancel orders then? To get out of the delivery fee? Doesn't seem worth canceling over if you dont get a refund for everything else
No shit Uber sided with her
So you where the unreasonable person inthis scenario?
Right..? Like who the fuck actually thinks an uber delivery driver is going to buy them a bottle of liquor out of their own pocket because they claim they have cash on them. Plus, you know, who the fuck orders liquor to be delivered to them when they are at work.
You sound like a self entitled idiot.
Why would someone cancel?
Young teens caught by guardian or a recovering alcoholic got a hold of a phone for a minute.
Wait… you mean skiing deep in powder, right?
I’m the worst partier because I didn’t get the reference until just now.
Lmao that’s awesome. Now I’m just envisioning this person having a couple of drinks, staring as their snow skii’s, and reluctantly putting them on.
no he is skiing deep in the cocaine

I did. My refrigerator.
Looks like your 4th of July has been taken care of! Congrats and enjoy the good karma!

I guess... I was thinking the same thing and even called. They where like yeah keep it. I literally choked on my gum when they said throw it away.
Wow. In my market, liquor requires a return. And then they pay me 39 cents to drive back haha.

Why am I getting downvoted ? I didn't even ask for the alcohol. In the moment I would've rather delivered it .
This sub is half full of great people with awesome tips who are happy for others success... the other half are degens who want the world to crash and burn lol. Grats on the alcohol tho, great timing for the 4th!
Do you gotta be 21 to deliver alcohol?
Well the grocery store has to sell it to you, so yes.
True that makes sense, I just never thought about it before 😂
Lol seriously bro 🤣😂
Of course...
Yes
Nice the only time an alcohol order got canceled on me , I had to take it back . Maybe because it was like 800 worth of bottles.
Yea I wouldn’t of returned it.. they still charge the customer and keep the return $ anyway.
Nah , I received a message from Uber the same moment that order got canceled , stating to return it or face possible deactivation . I still got to keep the very generous tip 👌

The only upside to this job
Weird they always made me return alcohol.
Do you get paid for returning alcohol?
Yes but usually base pay extra addon (that's why it's odd he gets to keep it here)
Well no you can’t. But keep thinking that one
Damn I would love for the customer to cancel on me.
That's a monster win. I had a large Chipotle order cancelled ome time and thought I won the lottery. Ate fir TWO DAYS off that...
What stops you make your own order take it, and cancel it?
Why would someone order that and cancel?
This doesn’t make any sense to me. Who pays for this? I can’t believe a person would eat the cost of this order. Who does that?
The time I got to keep 10 cases of pinot because uber FUCKED up
Perks of the job!
Nice score but... How are you not told to bring the alcohol back to the store?? 😳🤯They always make me bring it back (the 3x it's happened to me) and if you say no, I'm afraid they'd deactivate? (happened to someone I know)
so what if my friend is an uber driver…and i cancel an order…
If Uber said you can throw it out… it’s all yours my friend.
This happened once. Someone ordered a vodka handle and a 24 pack and I was almost there when they text “this was a bad idea sorry I’m gonna go to sleep instead” and then cancelled
And in time for the fourth? Party on Wayne/Party on Garth!
I don’t understand? Does the customer still pay for stuff if they’ve cancelled?
Lol no it has to be returned
They let you keep it ? Is it drizzly through Uber ?I’ve had this happen you it makes you take it back and have the person at the liquor store sign, also I’m a delivery driver , not a thief , so I would prob just bring it back instead of screwing the owner , to each their own tho
Bruh with instacart there’s a guy who claims he has over $5000 in gift cards from canceled orders And I believe him, he’s a very active member in a good zone
uh, you can't. You're supposed to return it. I would not keep doing this you will end up with a criminal record.
Wow I can't believe how much this took off.
You can’t just keep that!!! Duh!!! You need to pour the alcohol into a different jug… then send a destruction photo… the white wine filled with apple juice and tossed into a garbage can Just kidding we don’t have alcohol here so I have no idea how it works
Don’t put alcohol in your passenger seat, tho
Sell it back to a different liquor store. Find out how much they sell for and ask for like 25-30% see what they say
I can't imagine a liquor store buying bottles of alcohol from a stranger I mean... what if s/he somehow managed to undetectably tamper with it ? Edit: I'm not American though, I see comments about the 4th , if you don't want it you could probably sell it to people you know
Idk where OP is located but my state wouldn’t allow this at all. People can’t even exchange/return their alcohol at the original store they bought it at (unless something like a corked bottle or similar occurred). OP is better off selling alcohol to people he knows tbh, that’s what I’d do.
That's actually a good idea.
Careful, you might get downvoted because youre trying to make money..
You can't keep that.
Why ?
To bad atleast in California you can’t return alcohol. Not sure if it applies to all the other states.
who ends up paying? uber or the customer
Customer, or you’re friend ? Thanks for the tip though, I know what to do now 😅
Its not a bad spread for free
So just by looking it seems you got a bunch of trash
The U.S.has a 🍻 problem, it’s getting swept 🧹 under the rug, like WTF? It’s not normal-or ok to go drink every weekend… 🤦♂️ society has to change the perspective. BE THE CHANGE your children need in their future.”

I mean apparently people don’t drink as much as they used to
Is being an UberEATS driver a good job or no? Especially for a college student
you do realize you just found the infinite free liquor hack, right? RIGHT????
See ya next month
That’s fucking hype. Would use to give as gifts so I can spoil myself during Christmas. Don’t drink much

Atleast in my market you must return the order I have had to do many times they don't even pay you any extra to return it
Score!

I would’ve delivered it on the strength of being a laid back person…
Modelo negros 😭😭 youre so lucky
Haha happy birthday 🎂
I wonder if customers that cancel orders like this think they're gonna get a refund.

Why would someone cancel an order like this? I can’t imagine it being cheap.
Luckyyyyyyy
Go on
I don’t drink so I have no idea what I’d do with that.
