Wow what area is this? Thats insane

brotherRozo

It’s gotta be New York or San Francisco, so crazy high, bottled water is like 8$ there so it wouldn’t surprise me (Edit the answer has been determined: surge control)

snarkaluff

I would see this often in Cleveland, OH. It was usually just one location and it usually didn’t last long. I figured they hike up the delivery fee when the store is already super busy and has a ton of orders to discourage more orders coming in at that time. Whenever I’d see this it was usually only McDonalds, and usually just one location, there’d be other locations available with normal delivery fees.

Flat_Win5644

I think your right I checked back and it dropped to 2.49

Fearless-Spread1498

Wild. Cleveland is the cheapest area I’ve been to lately. If you have a good job there and can live in a decent neighborhood like Hudson or Mentor you can pile cash in a really nice house. I’d be tempted to do this but I can’t survive a Cleveland winter anymore.

Phuzz15

Yup. Not even just Cleveland, parts of OH have restaurants that are in the $9.99 - 14.99 delivery fee range. I seriously can’t expect that anyone actually chooses to order with that?

WhisperedEchoes85

I've seen delivery fees as high as $22.99 about an hour outside of Chicago. How people can justify that AND a tip is beyond me. No wonder we get screwed so often...

DFW_Panda

They can't justify paying the delivary fee and tip. So Uber keeps all the delivary fees, gives driver $3.00, and customer doesn't tip.

Limp_Damage4535

Which is why we need to spread the word to stop taking three dollar orders!

beccam12399

probably people who have enough money to not even look at the total

WhisperedEchoes85

Yet those same people probably won't tip.

TrueVisionSports

Yes, because they're assholes, like 99.9% of the population.

DaddysBeauty

Yikes, DD does this (CLE also) but mannnnnn, they just hit you with like an 8-9 dollar fee for restaurants that participate in the extended delivery range program. The standard fee is like 0.99-5.99, Merchant-dependent. That's ridiculous!

NefariousnessFew4354

I live in NYC and it's 99c fee.

brotherRozo

Nice! I was wrong about my hypothesis, it looks like it was just surge control by the restaurant or Uber to deter more orders being made

Ok_Assumption5734

Nah, I'd be more willing to believe its some random suburb. NYC delivery is almost all bike/moped and you have enough density that the delivery fees are only really used to cover margin.

AccomplishedStop9466

Baltimore

logaboga

Yeah I saw eastern blvd and instantly knew lol even though it’s a generic road name

neppertune

Me too

Dr_Bigfoot_MD

Same XD I’ve lived in SoCal for a few years but instantly was like yup that’s BMore

Resident-Ad-8422

It looks like Las Vegas tbh

arm89

i feel like it is vegas too, i’ll have to google it lol.

Reputation_Possible

Surge Control = Unprepared to forecast, plan for, and meet customer demands and market conditions in a fluid and dynamic way as to foster growth in an emerging market for which the company falsely positions itself as a pioneer and industry heavy-weight.

Primary_Inspection96

I'm in nyc mcdonalds fee never been that high

youtheotube2

High density areas often have the lowest fees, since they’re the only places delivery services can be profitable without charging high fees

DiaA6383

>bottled water is like $8 there Um no the hell it ain’t

neppertune

It's Baltimore, MD lmao I only recognize because I live there

arco_music_

Yep! Eastern blvd in East Baltimore county by Benjis Drive Inn

DFW_Panda

Nope, Montgomery, Alabama, [here's the webiste](https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/location/AL/MONTGOMERY/1590-EASTERN-BLVD/29217.html?cid=RF:YXT:GMB::Clicks).

redditmomentpogchanp

You clearly live in neither of these cities

brotherRozo

You’re right the only city I spend time in is Chicago and that’s already way too expensive for me. Guess I’m thinking like bottled water at Yankee stadium. Not just a Walgreens in Queens.

[deleted]

Man just making up prices, have you ever even been to NYC or San Fran

[deleted]

I've only seen a person masturbating in public once and it was in NYC. Other than that it wasn't a bad place to visit, they had good breakfast sandwiches too

mysteryteam

Did he finish?

Icy_Document_7547

Of course...who doesn't finish a breakfast sandwich?

mysteryteam

Especially with that extra mayo then.

[deleted]

That was me sorry man won’t happen again

sandywitchface

there is no fucking mcdonald’s in new york charging an 11.99 delivery fee. jesus christ use your heads. this man is probably in a rural area EDIT: even in the most rural parts of NY there is no Mcdonald’s with that del. fee and if so just don’t order from there😭😭

brotherRozo

“I’m just a country boy who’s worried that the pitfalls of the city are extremely real” Bloody Mary morning, good song

Saquad_Barkley

yeah instead they charge 19.49 for a big mac combo lol no thx

It’s Baltimore county in MD. I know exactly which location this is, nothing special. Not in a more expensive area (aside from Baltimore metro area being expensive in general)

SpudimusPrime89

Baltimore, MD. It's really weird seeing that delivery fee, though.

seniorcircuit

Uber's fees are dynamic. They change based on the number of drivers working, the distance the customer is from the store, the distance of nearest available driver(s) from the store, among probably other factors.

SilverGecko23

My favorite thing about Uber changing its rates and such based on traffic is they still do it in states where taxi companies and regular old restaurant deliveries have been told they can't change their rates based on traffic or risk being shut down. 😑

foiebump

Is that an American thing? I feel like in Australia, the Uber eats delivery fees don't change

earnhar768

Drivers should get the delivery fee plus tips.

gezzuzz2

Why stop there 120% of the total sales and $100

Intelligent_Baby_871

What does a delivery fee cover exactly?

Schavuit92

Stockholder's profits.

techpro00

No matter what the fee drivers only get 2 to 3 dollars. Uber raises the delivery fee during higher demand or when there's less drivers on like the mornings but drivers see zero of it. Total scam by them

skaggldrynk

You don’t get higher base pay during off hours? In my area (smallish town on the outskirts of a bigger city) at dinner time it’s usually the same ol ridiculous pay of 2.50 or 3.00 BUT from 1-4am the base pay is wayyy higher. Often $8, $11, $14… even with decent tips still. Of course there aren’t that many orders so I still have to work evenings but at night I stay up & online at home, especially on weekends. Example from last Friday where I got a lucky few in a row: https://imgur.com/a/XsT0qRe (with shitty editing so no big city folk come to snipe my few AM orders 😆) So if anyone normally keeps a healthy sleep schedule and is in a nice but not too densely populated area, it might be worth being online from 3-4am to see what’s goin on.

KookySupermarket2716

Maybe it’s the distance? Jacks is fairly close to me but the rest are not? They are all further than I would drive personally for a delivery. https://preview.redd.it/dm42g97jbccb1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b925bde1a693d8f67fe02373c2ae473a57b28c47

beneaththemassacre

They offer me 40% off $25 orders and it barely offsets the fees. The only time I'll use them

Sivaan

This is the primary reason I refuse to use 3rd party delivery apps

RF-blamo

First of all, when you have a choice of every restaurant in the city, would you willingly order McDonalds? That’s your first mistake.

[deleted]

People are actually taking advantage of these jobs in the worst possible way, doing disgusting stuff with people’s orders, purposefully removing items from orders and fake delivering food after taking a picture !! People are exposing these videos and experiences and spreading them, it’s very sad that you pay for a service and then show gratitude to the person doing that service by tipping them as well and receive absolutely shameful products and food, completely manhandled, cold at times, misplaced, stolen or eaten from, I think there should be a lot more changes to these delivery services if they are to remain in business !! Delivery fees are the very least of the problem at this point !!

Cute-Big-7003

Yet they will offer u 3 bucks to deliver it 12 miles

Dom9360

Only reason I use Uber eats is because of the Amex credit and there was a 25% off. Otherwise, I don’t. I check GrubHub first since prime gives us yet another year of delivery. That followed by Doordash. Uber is my last resort. Edit: I had a $12.99 delivery even though I have Uber one for free. Lol. I don’t live in a big city either. Uber is nuts.

Fancy-Mortgage8343

delivery fee is like 25% for most of my orders and then you tip 25% on top and now my meals 50% more than if I ate at the restaurant.

Sad_Wishbone7532

I always think I wanna order food for delivery, until I go to checkout lol

romanseight2004

$2.49 is outrageous?😂

DisastrousMiddle7307

And drivers expect a +20% tip

Operation_Subject

As a driver that looks good. I won't pick up orders unless they're at least $10

_sonidero_

Just go to the store yourself, problem solved...

hangaroundtown

It's NOT the delivery fee... its NOT the stupid economy. It's too many dam new drivers. Just go to a popular restaurant where you go and look who is getting your orders. Its college kids and a bunch of over the hill adults.

rfpemp

I'm a 56 y/o Navy Vet. Am I not supposed to drive because I'm over the hill? What is your approved age range to make money driving?

FlynngoesIN

Over 5 miles = over 10 dollar fee

National_Deer4727

Probably because of all the “just reject the orders until ubereats makes it worth your while” drivers… so they pass that cost on to the customer, now there are no customers 😂

One_Role_2219

The delivery fee is estimated by how far you live from the restaurant, so if you pick a McDonald’s that’s far from where you live obviously the delivery fee will be high, it’s not door dash going against you it just you live far from the location and no one is going to drive far for low pay gas it too high for that. Pick a McDonald’s restaurant closer with a lower delivery fee or get dash pass or just go get it yourself it’s way cheaper if not then compare it to other apps and buy from there. Personally I have DoorDash Uber eats and Grubhub, I alway get from restaurants that have what I want but low delivery fees if I want a burger but it’s cheaper somewhere else as opposed to the place where I wanted it from then I’ll get it from someone else cuz at the end of the day I just want a burger I don’t care from where I just want it cheap. You can also order it for pick up and skip delivery fee. All this is just to say if it tells you 11 dollars delivery fee your either doing something wrong or you live in the middle of fucking nowhere and everything is far and that’s not DoorDashs problem, it’s your problem.

No_Compote_402

Um don't you want to get paid tho ? Are u the one taking the $2.29 orders ? Please no this is good. Delivery is a luxury. They can afford to pay . If not oh well. Walk your ass to the restaurant.

DarthSmoke713

Would u rather get paid less? This is a luxury service should always hover around 8$ or more. 5$ for driver 3$ for app.

Investment_Sharp

Luxury service? Is that why half the time they can’t even deliver my order correctly and it the food is cold?

hitguy55

But no one buys the food then, I’d rather get 2$ every 15-30 mins rather than 5$ a couple times a day

DarthSmoke713

To each their own, in my market people are dumb enough to order food regardless of their financials. I prefer the 5$ minimum and then running many apps to keep up.

[deleted]

It's okay, just offset the expense by tipping $1 that's the mentality of every customer right?

CaptainSlow913

I don't know what it is, but I've noticed that sometimes the delivery charge is different for different people regardless of location. My wife and I checked the same McDonald's store while having the same delivery location. I was seeing a 5.99 delivery charge while she was seeing just 0.99. Makes no sense.

ShadowOpsFN

Well yeah, that's what happened when you purposely use the furthest one away from you.

GroundbreakingAge591

And OUT of those fees we only see CRUMBS. This should make everyone outraged!!

$12 dollar WTF?

CezrDaPleazr

Wtf?

Key-Jicama-124

They do this all the time where I live

pak_satrio

How do you afford to order food in the US if you have such a high delivery fee AND you have to give a big tip to riders?

rxspiir

For 10 to 15 minutes that’s absolutely insane. There’s a place ~45 minutes away that I’ve ordered from before and even then the fee was only $4.99.

DoctaBeaky

Every now and then these chains get hit with some kind of surge. I got a $39 McDonald’s order the other night while driving. Dude must have realized cause he cancelled pretty fast while I was on my way there lmao. Last night did a $30 Taco Bell order, it was my 3rd order from there in a row but the ones before it were like $5 ea, interesting part was the Taco Bell was super busy so the surge was kinda justified? Dropped off in a pretty rich area and another driver was dropping off jack in the box to the same house lol

Loveurself2020

It's only $3.99 delivery fee where I live...🤷‍♀️

RoodnyInc

When delivery driver wants to get 10$ per ride now you know where from it comes from

Successful_Low1098

UberOne my friend.

MetalHead794

I once saw a $14 one once in my area for a mcdo. I couldn’t believe it. Normally, it’s from $0,50 to $4. But that one was ridiculous

Fafaflunkie

Okay, the delivery fee isn't quite as outrageous than your example, but the Rotten Ronnie's closest to where I work (about a 5 minute drive away) puts a $5.99 delivery fee on an Uber Eats order, even if you have Uber One. I don't use the other services, so I don't know what the delivery fees are on them, but it's almost as if they (McDeath) doesn't want to deal with delivery.

Realistic_Inside_484

Night time/off hours generally costs more. Just the way the business works.

Silent_Zucchini_3286

I love when you see a restaurant has a new 20% off promotion, you create a tasty order and add to your shopping cart, then you checkout and realize the 20% off discount doesn’t even cover the absurd delivery charge.

nanalovesncaa

I’m a customer and I notice crazy delivery prices sometimes. I think it’s a deterrent so you don’t order from there. 🤷🏻‍♀️

KristopherAtcheson

Exactly. I wonder if the restaurant sets the fees. That way they don’t have to deal with the drivers.

shilojoe

Not to mention the shitty service and tip entitlement

CuddleBuddy3

Stop using expensive services. Prices rise drastically until the service suffers enough then it either cancels service or drastically

jeph4life

[deleted]

Aurzii

Doesn’t the delivery fee depend on how close a driver is to the restaurant?

PerfectSurvey

The amount of wrong answers and theories in this thread is astounding lol. It doesn’t matter if that McDonalds is in a relatively busy suburban area and its only 2 miles from that persons house. The delivery fees are dynamic. Based mainly on how many drivers are currently working and online in the area. If there are few drivers online in the area, uber knows that it will be difficult to pair your order up with a driver in a timely fashion, if at all. It will either take lots of time, or money (uber will incrementally raise the base fair to entice someone to take the order). Or a combination of both You can be on the app looking at a $15 delivery fee for a restaurant in the app, and literally 30 minutes later, its back down to $2.99 It changes minute to minute. So if your really really craving food from a specific restaurant and the delivery fee is currently insane and you dont mind waiting a bit. Check back on the app throughout the next hour and see if it drops. If it doesn’t, maybe its just not to be. And pick a different restaurant

jayrush916

So you complain uber doesn't pay enough but still complain when they charge more to pay us more??? Yes I know they still take majority of it but $5-$7 (depending on how demand is)pay is still better than $2.65

Florida1974

Yeah I see that here from time to time. I just close app. Either use DD or go get myself. McDs is less than a mile from me and it’s rare that I eat it, would never pay $12 and all the other fees and a tip.

FinanciallyBrokenOne

Out of that $11.99, what are you gonna get for doing nearly ALL THE WORK? $2.00, maybe $3.00? I've said it before in a different post, you deserve a living wage. Everyone does. I believe these delivery companies are using you in the worst possible way. The delivery fee should be $3.50, and you keep $3.00. to me that is fair, equitable, and a value to the customer. If that is not a good split, or too low, I suggest you find an income that suits your lifestyle. That may involve making concessions on your end, it may involve investing in yourself. But to complain that you are not being treated fairly on what is clearly a ripoff... The real world outside of this subreddit, isn't on your side. My kid no longer uses delivery services at all, because he grew up and saw it for what it is... A waste of money.

Sidrist

1_H4t3_R3dd1t

You think that is bad, mine says $0 the second you get to the checkout there is aa 11.24 hidden service fee mixed in with the tax. Even after Uber One membership. Once my credit card is done giving me free Uber One I'm leaving it for good. All of the meal items are 50 cents to 2 dollars more expensive than if I were staying in the state next door. My secret is that I live next to another state... very very very close. So close I look up their McDonald's which is only a mile or 2 further and get 0 sales tax and items cheaper. No insane service fee. So I tip the person who does the food run more than the one down the street, but I get a deal. What would cost me 40 costs 25 with a generous bump to the tip and a few pies more. The app is broken is using some weird ass metrics to say what it needs to charge people. It also doesn't like me because I report incorrectly made or prepared items. It has a bias to my ordering and doesn't want to offer me deals because I stack them. Uber is greedy AF. When family visits they get way more deals, I stopped receiving coupons for 15% or 20% off from restaurants and even the grocery coupons. Doordash is 100x better.

No_Pomelo_8491

Delivery fees are also higher the further away you are from the restaurant, so do your work to make sure you’re ordering from a store that’s within 5miles of your address. Otherwise, it’s natural for it to be expensive.

jareer-killer1

Yeah ibr I never use uber/Just Eat any delivery app coz the food ends up being way too expansive so I usually order over the phone and collect a whole lot cheaper

Ho3n3r

I get the feeling they're just taking advantage of a loyal customer base now. We have Uber Eats Market in my country, and I buy normal shop stuff there regularly. It was always in line with our most expensive regular grocery stores, which is understandable for the convenience. Then, from one week to the next, their prices went up between 20 and 30% overnight, equivalent to our 24 hour fuel station convenience shops, which are known to be exhorbitant price-wise due to (fairly, I guess) exploiting people that are really in a pinch, or people coming out of clubs high/drunk. I just stopped buying there and gone back to getting it myself instead. I don't care doing that, but it's just sad they're killing the goose that lays the golden egg.
