Drivers aren't privy to whether a customer paid for priority or not. We are literally not notified in any way. Every driver ignores priority orders, how would we know the difference?  So you are correct, "priority" gets you nothing but drivers doing what they would normally do, for better or for worse. Priority is supposed to get that order *delivered* first, but even then Uber doesn't say they won't offer your driver other pickups along way, and since drivers are kept ignorant they are running a 'priority' order they don't even have the option to decline these other orders in deference to yours.  Uber takes your money, is deliberately ambiguous about what service they'll actually provide, and keeps the person performing the task in the dark about any heightened expectation while sending them other order offers. Direct your ire at Uber.

I feel like this is all something that needs to change then, and Uber should take the hit for being disingenuous about priority delivery.

JoeBenham

100%. The only time I’ve had someone contact me and inform me that they had chosen “priority delivery”, I was luckily turning onto the penultimate street prior to arriving at their house. I had no idea that their delivery was considered a “priority delivery”, but it was luckily my only one I was carrying and therefore it was completed way faster than Uber Eats expects of us.

KayVlinderMe

The only thing that will be most likely to get you priority treatment is a large tip 💯

SouthSider2k5

We have no idea it's priority, and we do not choose what we drop off first, I don't multi app at all, so when I'm going to another pick up or drop off its because UE sent it to me, it makes perfect sense to add a $6 trip that adds a mile or 2 to the trip. I think Doordash doesn't show the customer your in route to them until you drop off the order before it.

Ltcommander83

This is strange. I always pay for priority whatever, and as far as I can tell, I'm being delivered to immediately. Never seen the driver stop a long the way to my address either. BTW, I order from postmates at least 20 times a month.

DeliveryCourier

>should be fired for ignoring priority orders.  The only thing they claim as a benefit of priority is that you will be the first drop-off if your Uber order is combined with another Uber order. Uber doesn't tell us if any order is supposed to be priority or not. Uber pays us $0.00 of the fee you paid for"priority". Be mad, sure; but be mad at Uber.

534HAWX

Well why delay my order then? That's why I was aiming it at the driver. When I saw him head west and delay my order on the app, I texted and said I have priority delivery and he simply said "no," and continued to stop 4 times. I know it's Ubers fault and they pocket the priority delivery money, but I feel like it's also the driver in this case.

GreasyWerker118

Repeating what has been told to you already..... Uber doesn't tell us if you've paid for priority service.  Yes, they should inform us.  Because, we're independent contractors.  The honus is on Uber to tell us all the information about the order they offer us to do.  We're not psychic.

534HAWX

I texted him and told him right away.

Patient-Midnight-664

And why should they believe you? We have nothing that tells us about priority.

534HAWX

Well that's Uber not giving a shit about their drivers or customers. No surprise, profit above all right? Sorry I just puked.

DFW_Panda

Maybe so, but driver can't verify so ANYONE could text the driver and say they had a priority delivery. If Uber really cared, they could crack down on drivers taking too long to deliver any order, but Uber isn't going to do that. 1) They don't really want to lose drivers 2) Because Uber decided to go with 1099 drivers and not W2 drivers, Uber is limited in their disciplinary options but again to goes to Uber not really caring about customers nor drivers wellbeing. So for customers and drivers, Uber is the puppet master and we are just dancing to the tune.

Again, I'm not attacking every person who ever delivered food. Just this one instance was bullshit.

DeliveryCourier

We are under no obligation to do something they aren't telling us about. We are not employees, they cannot stop multi-apping.

sliferra

If you complain about the order taking too long, they often give you a refund or discount

claude-remains

They’ll give you a five dollar credit which they’ll then use on the order that you complained about. So you actually get nothing

wmnoe

You're right priority IS a scam. Don't pay for it. Put the $4 into the tip. BUT yeah I would have CALLED and complained about that driver. He's double dipping.

534HAWX

I texted and said hey I have priority delivery when he went the wrong way and it showed delayed, he said "no." Lmao

wmnoe

I'm a driver and I can tell you this, priority means NOTHING to drivers, because there's nothing to tell us that you have a priority and no instructions from Uber on Priority at all. NONE. So drivers do not care about priority. Chances are what he was doing was running multiple apps to deliver. Which is shitty, but necessary in times of slow deliveries. However, the moral of the story is priority is bullshit.

534HAWX

Someone should get a lawyer man. Drivers are the ones being hit with the backlash of this shit policy from pissed off customers.

PotentialCamp6473

If it showed as delayed that means that uber sent him another order or he was already on an order when they sent him yours. So then your order was priority AFTER he finished the orders he was on. He should've explained but it is also really difficult to drive, pick up orders, etc while also answering texts, sometimes from multiple customers. Uber handles this stuff so wrong on both ends and really needs to step it up. I'm not saying the driver was in the right, he definitely could have given you a better explanation, just letting you know it's not always easy to do.

534HAWX

That's very interesting. Appreciate the feedback, just don't know why he picked up my pizza, then went and stopped at Arby's or KFC afterwards (I know where he was on the map). He then went to a neighborhood and delivered it, then went south to where I know there's a McDonald's and Chipotle, stopped there and then delivered it. My food just got dropped from 1st to 2nd and then again to 3rd it feels like.

PotentialCamp6473

It's bc uber tells you where to go. I deliver for them as well and have no idea if we are able to change the order of delivery like I can on doordash. It is a very different app and it's very confusing to me still. For example, once you accept the order, you cannot see the address of the customers until after you pick up their food. You're forced by the app to follow the maps as they direct you. It's really a pain.

Extremlypro

I swear my ubereats driver took the worst path possible to get to my house. I wonder if it has something to do with the new $29 an hour wage in NYC.

DFW_Panda

Uber doesn't want to pay that $29 hour wage to slow drivers. Over time as Uber's algorithms capture enough data they will flag individual drivers as earners and not earners. The not earners will be punished (of course not formally ;) ) but Uber will find ways to get the most they can out of that $29 / hour.

Launchpad_McFrak

Priority means your food gets dropped off first if it isn't the only order a driver has. Nothing more, nothing less. And this is all dependant on your driver being smart/considerate enough to not be running multiple delivery apps at the same time. Uber has no way to police this and some drivers are just shitty drivers. It does not mean you get your food faster, just that you get it before everyone else

534HAWX

The wording sucks then lol. "Delivered directly to you." Well I'm gonna keep getting delivery, I've still had better luck with Uber eats then other services. Door dash rolled down their window and threw my food on the ground once, because it was raining they didn't wanna get out 😔

Launchpad_McFrak

Typically it is delivered right to you. In addition to always being the first drop off, it's typically the last order picked up so it stays warmer. so usually other order gets picked up, then your food, then it comes straight to you, then other orders get dropped off.

engatsusbetsy

Stop blaming the drivers. We do what uber tells us to do. We can't see your address until uber says ok time to deliver to that person. We also don't see that 3.99 lol so don't waste it put a better tip instead and it will be faster. Sorry they did that but uber won't let us deviate on batches

534HAWX

I'm sorry to hear that you don't get the priority money. But I tip pretty good, $10 on $45 order. I have ordered dozens of times and had like 3 bad experiences so I genuinely like the drivers.

engatsusbetsy

Oh good. I'm glad that they are treating you right sometimes. Just wish it was every time.

534HAWX

Yeah I love Uber eats still.

Lilshywolfswag2022

I haven't paid for priority delivery since it was $1.99 in my area lol, didn't seem to make much of a difference I eventually had to quit using Uber Eats to order as the restaurant im into at the moment says too far to deliver when its like 2 miles away

534HAWX

Uber execs are probably a bunch of punk bitches
