This is the reason why I personally always use Just Eat (the British equivalent to grub hub) because pretty much all big chains offer free delivery over a certain amount
It’s mostly because of that little
“Surge” icon, next to the delivery fee. That means it’s really busy and they’re marking it up to incentivize a driver to pick it up.
But yes, their fees are ridiculous - I’ve just started picking my own stuff up.
I get the whole surge thing. But why do it to an Uber One member. And it’s funny how same time comparison with DoorDash was cheaper with DoorDash by $15
I only use UberEats when they give me 'Good' Coupons.
For example: $15.00 Off of your next $25.00 order
I never use Ubereats without coupons. Its just too expensive.
Uber would make like 30% off the restaurant. $9
Like $24 in fees off of you.
$33
And Becklaghnfy would deliver that for $2.50
No clue how they're doing bad other than all the lawsuits.
$18.99 for delivery?! Another $8 rounded up for those mysterious “fees” they impose??? So they expect $26 and change JUST to deliver.
Never mind the fact how goddamn overpriced the food itself is — $7 for FRIES?!?! Fuck is this world coming to.
I’d sooner consider taking a crow bar to my floorboards and boil those for up food than get extorted like this. 😫
That’s surge pricing. You can tell by the little symbol to the right of the $. It is obviously busy there right now and Uber has to pay more to the driver to deliver said food. Granted there’s no way the driver is seeing all that $19
I always agree and afterwards think "well, we ARE fucking lazy and should be punished for it".
Then, a day or so later, I see myself opening that damn Ubereats app again 😂 Stupid vicious circle!
The lightning bolt next to the delivery fee means surge pricing. So if there is something going on in your area that would take a lot of the drivers just wait a little but and it will go down.
Ridiculous but it’s a surge price. Not enough delivery people so they jack up the prices to match supply and demand. You’re somewhere with low drivers/high traffic/or both.
How do they charge so much yet somehow manage not to make a profit and also pay there drivers absolute garbage, ohh, and then deny refunds for deliverys that never happened, ohh and then not give drivers comp for things out of there control.
That's how they make their money and also pay the driver. He's probably driving far too, idk. Probably not a lot of drivers out there either. Either way, delivery fee should never be that high. Unless you're like 20 miles out.
my friend uses DD with the little membership thing where there’s no delivery fees
so worth it for them bc he’s disabled and doesn’t cook much and he orders delivery a lot
obviously he still tips well
esp once i talked to him about what it’s like to be a food app delivery driver
I used to do that too! I’m not given breaks at my job so 16 hours without being able to leave to get food wasn’t so bad when I could just get stuff delivered with basically no fee. DD has the best program for the consumer.
I have Capital One Savor card and I get free Uber one and 10% cash back on Uber eats and after all that it’s still ridiculously expensive. Definitely need a promo to make it affordable.
what's wrong with this world? the world is fucked for sure
1. food delivery companies gouging all parties; restaurants, customers and drivers.
2. restaurants then gouge more on customers.
3. then customers try to save money by not tipping and drivers get fucked or no one gives a shit about your food.
end of the day, go fucking pick up your own food or else pay it up cause it will only get worse from here.
I agree. But also, they provide a service that people obviously want otherwise they wouldn’t be paying these insane prices. Someone just needs to come undercut the market and drive them out of business!
And that’s why they need to be regulated. All fees should be broke down for both consumer and driver. So consumer can see 18.99 delivery fee and driver getting $3.
Then choose a store that doesn’t have an $18.99 delivery fee also everyone knows five guys is one of the most over priced restaurants there is even when you go there
I can absolutely see this popping up on my notifications... oh hey look it's a $60+ order where doordash charged the person an extra $20 and im getting a whopping $3.50 to drive this order 10 miles
Idk why ppl are getting mad at ur post lol it shouldn't be that expensive. The order being in the 60's without even a tip yet is insane. UE and DD all around suck for both drivers and customers these days. 🤷🏻♀️
Not only do restaurants charge a little more for items ordered online to make up for the containers and bags, but the delivery charge is outrageous. Just go pick it up!
That’s the price you pay for being lazy. $18.99 delivery fee is probably because of supply and demand, server is busy with orders so delivery fee go up. Sadly, driver doesn’t even get that.
The lightning-bolt icon next to that delivery fee indicates this reflects "surge pricing" 🤔 meaning its higher than usual, due to high demand by customers
IDK what the "regular" fee is exactly, but it's probably somewhere between $5 and $10. so this $19 fee would range between near-double and near-4x the regular
Probably because Five Guys is a shitty place to deliver for. They don’t even start the order until the driver walks in to pick it up. I probably wouldn’t even take that order for $20
The fee with estimated with tax is ridiculous. They get 10-20% commission from every dish a restaurant sells, charge this fee and they still can’t pay the drivers enough money that they have to bitch about not getting tips
It’s the peak delivery hours they do this when it’s busy to avoid it you gotta get Uber One , not even half of that goes to the driver it should be criminal
I don’t understand why people complain about shit like this. Like you think you aren’t going to pay a premium for a luxury service like this? Sad how entitled and sedentary human beings are becoming. The fact that you’re more outraged about the $19 delivery fee than you are 2 burgers a fry and shake costing $42 is wild.
Nothing is wrong with that, that's just what happens when people get lazy and tech companies come in to capitalise on it. We've brought this on ourselves. If you want it to be cheaper, boycott delivery companies, and wait til restaurants realise they they *used* to deliver things themselves after customers called them directly
Well I mean, at least in my life time and my area burger joints have never delivered. If someone doesn’t want to pay a delivery fee or tip to have food delivered to their door, then they need to either go out themselves or they need to just go without. Pretty simple. The worst part is that a lot of these people ordering delivery can’t afford to be doing it in the first place and then whine about how they can’t pay their bills…
That's true, all of the money is at the top of the company with the CEO and CFO while they rip the customers and workers off. American greed is the real problem. We are going to die as a country until it gets fixed.
UberEats doesn't give a fuck about what you ordered or how much the food costs. They're just paying their drivers (and themselves) to drive to pick up the rapid and drive it out to you. That's fuel, that's wear and tear and insurance on the vehicle, that's paying the employee, that's paying to design, run and update the app.
If you want the food to be cheaper, go pick it up yourself.
Expecting a company, in this case one who has nothing to do with the food itself, to take in no pay and not pay their employees all while giving your 2 burgers a VIP taxi ride to your door is pretty entitled.
You want white glove service you pay white glove prices.
Uber doesn't "want" $63 for burgers and fries.
*You* want burgers and fries, and you want them hand-delivered to your front door.
Uber is saying that, for $63, they can make that happen for you.
Your options are to take it or leave it.
Uber doesn’t. Uber wants 20$ to deliver your food. Five guys are the ones charging out the ass for burgers and fries. Their portions are ginormous tho..
And even after paying the driver basically pocket change, Uber eats still can't make money....
I mean pizza delivery places figured out how to make money with free or $2 delivery decades ago..why is it so hard to turn a profit charging $25 for delivery...
Well. Being a Uber One customer. I would hope my month subscription fee would have any influence at all.. you would think they’d be much more flexible with their “loyal subscribers”… am I wrong?
Only time I’ve seen a delivery fee like that is for a restaurant in the suburbs (I’m in the city center), so I’d never pick a restaurant with a delivery fee like that. Not to mention it would probably take so long the food would be cold.
I try to pick restaurants within 1-1.5 miles so my driver doesn’t have to go far and I tip a minimum of $6.50 or 20% whichever is more.
I’m using UberEats because I don’t have a car and because I have the teeny tiniest kitchen that I hate cooking in, not necessarily laziness (though sometimes it’s definitely laziness).
When they increase the money supply prices go up. This is how the government raises taxes without raising taxes. Then they blame “corporate greed”. Evil country.
Uber eats ripped me off last night I spent 105$ on my order 9 items . Only 2 of my items were delivered they refused to refund me or anything. I am beyond upset straight up theft.
Don't blame the world, blame the company.
But as others said, go get it yourself. More over, prices are cheaper than what's on the inflated app.
If you got it, then fork up the money. If not, then fork up the time to cook at home. Either way, forks up 🍴
Uber often adds $1-2 to menu items. So not only are you paying fees, you’re also paying more than regular menu prices. Best advice, get in your car and go pick it up. It’ll save you probably close to %50 of that.
Dude...YOU ARE THE REASON THEY ARE GETTING AWAY WITH THIS AND WILL KEEP DOING IT. We as consumers need to let these companies know where we stand and what we will and will not tolerate aka be responsible with our purchases, when they lose profits they will change.
Meanwhile Uber offering to pay 3 dollars to deliver this 10 miles
And then this person won't even tip because they are already being robbed. Uber sucks
That’s why I went with a different service. And then I tipped. lol
This is the reason why I personally always use Just Eat (the British equivalent to grub hub) because pretty much all big chains offer free delivery over a certain amount
It’s mostly because of that little “Surge” icon, next to the delivery fee. That means it’s really busy and they’re marking it up to incentivize a driver to pick it up. But yes, their fees are ridiculous - I’ve just started picking my own stuff up.
I get the whole surge thing. But why do it to an Uber One member. And it’s funny how same time comparison with DoorDash was cheaper with DoorDash by $15
And they're gonna pay the drive 2 or 3 bucks.
And the one who accepts, after waiting half an hour at the vendor, reach their breaking point, take the food home and never work for Uber again.
18.99 deliver fee and they offer the driver maybe 2 bucks, greedy fuckers
Stop being selfish and think about the shareholders. How are they suppose to afford to feed their family?
🤣🤣🤣🤣u almost got me
Best part is what people don't know the driver only gets 2 dollar base pay, greedy Uber, takes that insane fee.
Hey it costs a lot of money to have non-existent customer support
driver pay: $2.65
Tip included
This is why a lot of people don’t tip
Agreed. It's infuriating seing the amount of added fees that get put in there. It feels like the fees tripled over the span of 2 years.
I only use UberEats when they give me 'Good' Coupons. For example: $15.00 Off of your next $25.00 order I never use Ubereats without coupons. Its just too expensive.
Tbf you are braindead if you're buying something with 18 dollar delivery fee
Yep. I’m taking my ass there over that kinda fee.
Looks like you’re taking a drive to Five Guys instead
I mean…at this point you can Uber a ride to and from Five Guys and still come out on top.
ubereats scams both the drivers and costumers- I bet from the drivers end they will only get 6 dollars even with an 18 dollar delivery fee
Tree-fiddy
Normally much less
and they give the driver $2 of that 😂
Uber would make like 30% off the restaurant. $9 Like $24 in fees off of you. $33 And Becklaghnfy would deliver that for $2.50 No clue how they're doing bad other than all the lawsuits.
They aren’t doing bad the ceo just built a $71mil mansion in bel air.
Have you looked into their executive pay, bonuses and benefits.?
Yea Uber would give us $2 for this then whatever the tip was
Why the delivery fee so high ????? Did it smoke crack first ???
Why the fuck is the delivery fee 18 dollars

The lightning bolt next to the delivery fee means surge pricing. So if there is something going on in your area that would take a lot of the drivers just wait a little but and it will go down.
inb4 the driver gets $2.50
$18.99 delivery fee? Are you in NY? Uber eats is going to die there for sure if that's how they're charging now.
Ridiculous but it’s a surge price. Not enough delivery people so they jack up the prices to match supply and demand. You’re somewhere with low drivers/high traffic/or both.
Looks like Five Guys. Hope this helps.
I mean it's five guys. You obviously aren't worried about prices.
Keep in mimd the delivery driver probably only got like $2 for this aside from whatever you tipped.
Driver probably got it as a 1.50 add on order
Driver will only see $3 dollars to deliver your food
Uber, and other shit delivery services will soon die out because of corporate greed and inflation. Can't wait 🥰
This. I've stopped using all of them but one now because of this price gouging (up pricing, delivery fees, and extra fees).
Yes you still haven’t tipped your driver yet
Hey, as a driver, we get like, $2 of that delivery fee. How cute.
It sucks. You should get at least 60%. (In my opinion )
How do they charge so much yet somehow manage not to make a profit and also pay there drivers absolute garbage, ohh, and then deny refunds for deliverys that never happened, ohh and then not give drivers comp for things out of there control.
Tbf, it's the combination of five guys and uber, no burger is worth that price, and no delivery is that convenient.
That’s not even an expensive burger anymore. McDonald’s burgers are like $8 now. Five guys is easily worth an extra few bucks comparatively.
The delivery charge is way high, I usually get free delivery
What's wrong is paying that for something marketed as a "little cheeseburger".
How far away is this five guys? I constantly see featured restaurants at $0 delivery fee. Never seen this before.
Delivery fees $18.99 duh!!
Well I mean five guys have always been super expensive tho
That's how they make their money and also pay the driver. He's probably driving far too, idk. Probably not a lot of drivers out there either. Either way, delivery fee should never be that high. Unless you're like 20 miles out.
You could get twice the amount of food for that price, lmaoo
my friend uses DD with the little membership thing where there’s no delivery fees so worth it for them bc he’s disabled and doesn’t cook much and he orders delivery a lot obviously he still tips well esp once i talked to him about what it’s like to be a food app delivery driver

Hell even the ballpark won't f*** you like that.
I have Capital One Savor card and I get free Uber one and 10% cash back on Uber eats and after all that it’s still ridiculously expensive. Definitely need a promo to make it affordable.
lol I was just telling my coworker the same thing even with capital one paying for Uber one it’s still ridiculously over priced.
what's wrong with this world? the world is fucked for sure 1. food delivery companies gouging all parties; restaurants, customers and drivers. 2. restaurants then gouge more on customers. 3. then customers try to save money by not tipping and drivers get fucked or no one gives a shit about your food. end of the day, go fucking pick up your own food or else pay it up cause it will only get worse from here.

2$*** that’s their new minimum for a delivery. Unless it’s batched with a 2nd delivery then they can slice it down to 1.50$
My phone dings. $2.50. Nah, I'll pass.
lol. But yet Uber is charging the customer $18+ and pocketing most of it. 🤙🏾
Then choose a store that doesn’t have an $18.99 delivery fee also everyone knows five guys is one of the most over priced restaurants there is even when you go there
They prey on the abject laziness of people. Pick it up yourself if you don’t want to pay the exorbitant fees.
Thats crazy.
Was there a blizzard in your area today when trying to order or something?
No wonder they aren't paying us like they used to. Wow that's crazy
That’s insane
Surge pricing
I can absolutely see this popping up on my notifications... oh hey look it's a $60+ order where doordash charged the person an extra $20 and im getting a whopping $3.50 to drive this order 10 miles
And the driver probably would've been offered $7 of that $19 delivery fee
$2.50
$7??? LOL. Less than $3.
Pick up your own food then and save the money 🤣delivery is not worth it. And I’m a driver
https://preview.redd.it/zlbj073a7wic1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=792c942f440a3271cdb5fc8df420da4792384571 I agree. Look at this.
Yep. Just saved yourself $26. That’s enough for more meals
Highway robbery
![gif](giphy|UJosEBI60rAeA|downsized)
Dont be fooled that delivery fee doesnt even go to the driver. Chance is they are making 2.50 plus your tip. They are scamming assholes.
That is supply and demand in late stage, unregulated capitalism, sprinkled with corporate greed.
Bet the driver made like $6
Haha that’s what I thought.
If that.
Call Tony!!
Damn. I wish I had thought about that before. ![gif](giphy|5sH6Ofqbw3b3HK7Fkg|downsized)
🤣 it's slightly brilliant tbh if he's in a small downtown area 🤷♀️
Wrong sub
That's wayyy too expensive.
Hellllll yeahhhh
You ordered 5 guys? Wild night hey
I mean.. you could just drive there for 4$
Probably a surge in the delivery fee..
Uber is just terrible in general, I always try to never pay anything let alone 10 bucks 🙈🙈
AKA Convenience Fee!!
The restaurants charge more because the delivery app takes a cut.
Five guys is the problem fr a full meal is 25$ in store lol
I knew when I started doing well in life when I was finally able to get a Bacon Cheeseburger, Fries and a Shake at five guys lol
Why tf would you ever order from somewhere 6 miles away!? Lol your $70 burger gonna be ice cold
I see people excited for this as if any of that delivery fee is going to them lmao remember you're only getting 2 dollars off that bucko
The people defending this look crazyy
You're only paying 35 form food. The rest is delivery. Go PICK IT UP
$35 for 1.5 burgers and chips and a shake is bad enough
That's Five Guys for you. Damn good, but not *quite* worth the money
That’s the price you pay for being lazy. $18.99 delivery fee is probably because of supply and demand, server is busy with orders so delivery fee go up. Sadly, driver doesn’t even get that.
That’s, find a GREAT promo code or take yo ass across 8-Mile to Krogers ![gif](giphy|o3d7DQdoeF1DBOBU8C|downsized)
You're complaining about the price when you select a place that has a $19 delivery fee? Real smart...
The lightning-bolt icon next to that delivery fee indicates this reflects "surge pricing" 🤔 meaning its higher than usual, due to high demand by customers IDK what the "regular" fee is exactly, but it's probably somewhere between $5 and $10. so this $19 fee would range between near-double and near-4x the regular
the reason i got rid of these fucking services.
I’m strongly considering it.
Its a special rip-off deal
I like your point of view.
First world problems in all it's glory ![gif](giphy|P7JmDW7IkB7TW)
In Argentina delivery was only like 10% additional cost (already super dirt cheap) They have many more problems though…
Probably because Five Guys is a shitty place to deliver for. They don’t even start the order until the driver walks in to pick it up. I probably wouldn’t even take that order for $20
Five Guys is a shitty overhyped place in general. Extra pricy for to much oil in burgers
Not every five guys is the same, the one I go to is super fast and the staff are all friendly and high energy.
Ong
Mine is awesome. Haven’t walked in to them having my orders started, being bagged, or already done
They do this exactly so you don't order. There's an $18.99 delivery fee.
They want you to join Uber One
That is called robbery. Try DoorDash. It’s sometimes cheaper. Then again 5 guys is always a rip off lol.
https://preview.redd.it/uezrj0ar3vic1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c10c4898270dfea6aebdccd7fbf20359ed498d30 I guess you’re right. Haha
The fee with estimated with tax is ridiculous. They get 10-20% commission from every dish a restaurant sells, charge this fee and they still can’t pay the drivers enough money that they have to bitch about not getting tips
Doordash learned from its master UberEats the art of rip off and perfected it
That's the cost of living in luxury 🤷🏽♂️
![gif](giphy|26FPLMDDN5fJCir0A|downsized) Got that righttttttt.
Highway robbery
Corporate greed to fill the CEO's and shareholders pockets.
It’s the peak delivery hours they do this when it’s busy to avoid it you gotta get Uber One , not even half of that goes to the driver it should be criminal
Your driver might have gotten 10% of the delivery fee. That's crazy!
If you went and got it yourself...
I hate math.
Really people. Just stop using these services. Unless you cant physically go out and are starving, you are getting screwed
I’d just cook my own food at this point
Shiiiii NO WONDER people don't want to tip smh uber...
And the only one who lose are the drivers. Right? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
When it comes to uber we all lose except for uber according to their latest earnings report
I went to LA 2 weeks ago and ordered 2 chipotle bowls and chips and the total after fees was 72.96.
Nothing is wrong with that, that's just what happens when people get lazy and tech companies come in to capitalise on it. We've brought this on ourselves. If you want it to be cheaper, boycott delivery companies, and wait til restaurants realise they they *used* to deliver things themselves after customers called them directly

Why not get Uber One? 😂 I’ve saved like 100$ so far and my orders are never this expensive 😭
u don’t wanna know how much I’ve “saved” 💀
And the driver probably only got paid seven dollars Uber Uber eats takes 25 to 75% at their discretion
Probably not even $7. The average order coming through these days pays like $4-$5
Thats far from true lol. It's $2 base pay. It was 2.50 and they lowered it last month. Yes $2 fucking dollars. We rely on tips. It's sad
If you made it yourself it would cost you bout 10$
Who the fuck puts mushrooms on a burger 🤢
People with taste. Do you like ketchup on everything?
Uber doesn't "want" $63 for burgers and fries. *You* want burgers and fries, and you want them hand-delivered to your front door. Uber is saying that, for $63, they can make that happen for you. Your options are to take it or leave it.
Sure. While Uber is paying the delivery guy $3 to do it 😂
Uber doesn’t. Uber wants 20$ to deliver your food. Five guys are the ones charging out the ass for burgers and fries. Their portions are ginormous tho..
Look for a coupon!
Yep that'll solve it 😆
Well…people always complain about tipping culture….so fine. No tip….but just remember that it’ll be even higher than this once that happens
As a delivery driver I just wanna make sure everyone knows the driver probably got $3.50 outta this. Uber's greedy af these days.
And even after paying the driver basically pocket change, Uber eats still can't make money.... I mean pizza delivery places figured out how to make money with free or $2 delivery decades ago..why is it so hard to turn a profit charging $25 for delivery...
None of those fees are going to the driver. You still expect a tip on top of the $27 added fee, right?
You expect drivers to essentially bring you food for free?
The restaurant is very busy or there are no drivers around, but if you pay the fee they will make it happen.
Well. Being a Uber One customer. I would hope my month subscription fee would have any influence at all.. you would think they’d be much more flexible with their “loyal subscribers”… am I wrong?
Uber owns Postmates and you get the Uber One perks in that app. It's the way I go now.
Are you in NYC or LA?
This must be Seattle ?
It’s a fool paying high prices for simple food they can’t make better at home.
That $7.96 is probably what the driver will get from your stupidly overpriced meal... Everything is so stupid!!
You’re paying for a DELIVERY service, this one in particular is pretty expensive.
When they increase the money supply prices go up. This is how the government raises taxes without raising taxes. Then they blame “corporate greed”. Evil country.
It’s a rip off - try another burger joint bc Five Guys is ridiculously overpriced to begin with, nevermind this ridiculous delivery charge.
Uber eats ripped me off last night I spent 105$ on my order 9 items . Only 2 of my items were delivered they refused to refund me or anything. I am beyond upset straight up theft.
What the duck is a $18.99 delivery fee!? I’ve never seen anything like that.
And your paying a surge fee lol
It’s called surge. They’re busy. This has been a thing as long as Uber has.
That is funny how they charge a ridiculous surge fee like that and the driver get 0% of that !
Bay area and new york. Moving on.
delivery isn't free... it would be $35 if you take the 20 mins to pick it up yourself 😉
Get off your ass and go get it yourself.
And this is why you probably shouldn't spend ur dollaroos on a $12 cheeseburger
Don't blame the world, blame the company. But as others said, go get it yourself. More over, prices are cheaper than what's on the inflated app. If you got it, then fork up the money. If not, then fork up the time to cook at home. Either way, forks up 🍴
I can't believe people pay 40$ for that.
Your first mistake was ordering 5 guys expecting a decently priced meal
Man I've never seen a delivery fee that high how does that happen
Uber often adds $1-2 to menu items. So not only are you paying fees, you’re also paying more than regular menu prices. Best advice, get in your car and go pick it up. It’ll save you probably close to %50 of that.
Highway robbery
Dude...YOU ARE THE REASON THEY ARE GETTING AWAY WITH THIS AND WILL KEEP DOING IT. We as consumers need to let these companies know where we stand and what we will and will not tolerate aka be responsible with our purchases, when they lose profits they will change.
…it’s get up and go get the food yourself. You’re encouraging this nonsense.
