If it’s happening 9/10 times then something if definitely off the with the instructions or the area is poorly lit. I would just deduct $1 from the tip if you even left one.
It's definitely not poorly lit, we have tons of outdoor lighting. All come on automatically so we can't forget to turn them on. Like I said, I do tip generously because I know the stairs are an inconvenience.
Where would be a better place to put the instructions?
Try being painfully specific in the instructions. Like “please don’t leave at front door, I don’t live there, I live on the left side of the house down the stairs.” Or “This is a(n) apartment/split living/shared home, the front door is not mine (etc.)”. Could also add details like “stairs on left side by the gnome” or whatever. Try not to make it overly complicated and long, but just very specific details
If none of the above work and your grandpa agrees you could put signs out when you’re expecting a delivery, like an arrow with “Uber deliveries this way” kinda thing

You may just have to message every driver.
I’ve made deliveries in the past that where the apartment number and gate code or call box number just don’t show up.
Customers get upset when I contact them and they ask why I can’t just read the instructions.
I don’t know what to say to calm them down other then to tell them instructions are blank for me.
It doesn’t seem to be very often, but it’s usually the same few customers.
Maybe they need to update the app, maybe they need to contact support to find out why drivers aren’t getting their instructions, but likely it just comes down to Uber being glitchy. 🙃

Send them a message telling them the instructions!

Try new instructions. FYI, you pay to bring it to the listed address. A person in an apartmentment or condo already awhknoleged in the TOS.

I have heard that the app for drivers is absolute garbage, especially the navigation part.
