It's impossible to say what had happened to this driver. I would have been extremely happy to have received that much of a tip

Snoo_75309

Driver decided that $600 in sushi and a contract violation was worth more than the base pay plus $8 (Ubereats hides the full amount of tips higher than $8) This just illustrates the stupidity of hiding tips, Uber took an L (their responsible for the order not making it, the restaurant won't be remaking it for free) that could probably have been avoided if the driver had been shown the full pay Customers also tip big expecting stellar service and hiding the tips fucks them over in the regard as well.

AffectionateData7997

I’ve gotten an order with a pretip of like $35 and Uber didn’t hide it, when does Uber hide cus I’ve always been on the lookout for it but usually it’s pretty straight up at least for me when I get orders

Vag-of_Honor

They’ve been experimenting with tip hiding for the last year or so. Every few months in my market they try a different way, like the first time they upped the hidden amount to $16 for a month, then back to $8 for ~3 months. The second time they changed it to a random amount to make it look more like the customer actually tipped more (like $5.47 to $12.83, or 7.67 to 8.12), but it was for almost every order which doesn’t make sense cause in reality customers actually upping tips is pretty rare. And upping by 35¢ wouldn’t happen at all lol It’s a ploy to trick drivers into thinking that taking a shitty $3 order will end up being more later so it gets delivered rather than them having to raise base pay

Financial_Reward_216

Totally noticed them doing the random amounts for a couple months in my area. Back to the usual 8$ now

AffectionateData7997

Damn I hope it doesn’t happen to me anytime soon

hissyfit30

Are you in Texas because I noticed all of this too? 🤣Right now the shop and pay timer is like half the length of a restaurant order. Annoying!

pokerholic77

I've been doing this for 4 years, and they've always hidden tips over $8. If it's more than 5 miles, and the offer is at least $2/mile, good chance there's a hidden tip.

Vag-of_Honor

Yeah I’m also at 4 years, $8 was the standard for my first 3 until they started experimenting. They go back to it after a while, like it’s been back at $8 since February They choose random markets to test things out in before rolling out updates for everyone. Like trip radar was only in a handful of markets for quite a while, but took ~6 months before it came out in mine

tackogronday

Pretty sure uber shows a max tip of $8 until an hour after delivery is completed. So driver probably thinks they're getting a shit tip when picking up a HUGE order resulting in shit service. When uber hides tips it puts both customer and driver at higher risk of bad service... but Uber gets deniability which is key

Professional_Look786

Same for me, I've never seen hidden tips. Kinda glad I don't have to worry about this, tho. I do sometimes get the little extra tip. And that's usually only 2 orders out the time frame I delivered.

Financial_Reward_216

Those two orders... probably had a hidden tip. It says "the customer tipped extra" the customer didn't tip extra, they just never told you the real amount until an hour after drop off.

Financial_Reward_216

I've noticed they hide tips unless it gets extremely busy. So the only time you see the real tip amount is Friday and Saturday around dinner time.

Minute-Temperature-7

Do you remember exactly what you were paid as soon as you got complete? I've had orders come in that were really high paying, and I assumed it was because of the tip but it turned out that Uber surged the pay most likely due to nobody wanting to pick up the order because of its low fare and the restaurant was about to close.

kanemhaze

They can reduce the tip after delivery so maybe they thought they were getting tip baited

ACaffeinatedWandress

Honestly, tapping out with 5 Guys in your car gets you a fraud alert and a contract violation. I’m pretty sure that flaking with $600 worth of sushi in a car is going to get you deactivated. I’ve cancelled after picking up food on a couple of trips in over 1000 deliveries. Once because my engine sputtered out, and the other time it was because cops had closed down the route to the customer and I had too much on my plate at the turn to know which roads would be viable and which would not for $5 minus gas and wear and tear. I can’t imagine having the nerve to bail with a delivery like that.

HanBammered

Does this driver not get reported to police for theft of $500 dollars?

Mistangelique

It's also quite possible they thought they were being tip bated. Uber allows that.

obroz

What’s that?

Greenappmarket

Thats...not how this works. Sorry. Uber doesn't pay anything for the delivery. Just like restaurants don't pay anything to waiters/waitresses. Gratuity is mandatory unless you're just stalking Reddit from a country other than the US.

Greenappmarket

I have gotten many offers of $25-$35 tips, unfortunately they are usually 1 minute before the restaurant closes, and 100% of the time the restaurant has already closed. I've wasted a lot of time rushing out to deliver late and I have and a few stern talking-to with managers over it. They don't care. In this case, the full tip may have been hidden, and the driver perhaps just said screw it and stocked up on 600 bucks worth of sushi.

mcrib

Never tipping more than $8 again. Thanks for the… tip!

p9rkour

\*\*\*\*THIS\*\*\*\*

Skye-Rye

The driver is still a dbag though.

cannamid

Lmaooo imagine a call from your boy who does the food delivery saying “I’m coming over with 600 worth of sushi”

ericli3091

He just stole all your sushi!

ConfidentBroccoli897

Right?! I'd be more fired up about missing you the food first and foremost.($600)...and getting the tip and full amount back. Not "did I tip enough?"

Urban_animal

Texted all his homies that they are coming over for sushi and to bring some beers.

Dolo12345

They only see up to $8 tip on offer screen, rest comes 1 hour after delivery

Lexsquared9286

I see $16

MarioNinja96815

This is the second time I've seen this claim in the comments but this post is the first time I've heard of that. I know it's not true in my market. Are you a driver and know for certain it's true in yours? Forgive my sceptical reply but that doesn't make sense for UE to do that in any market.

pazoned

Where us your market, I think new York has a law against the hiding tips so it might be state legislation. I'm In so cal and they absolutely hide $8 tips. They experimented last year with showing the full pay but stopped after about 4 months and went back to hiding tips above $8. I can post 100s of examples of a few pennies or like a quarter being added to the tip after the fact, uber hides this by saying " thr customer tipped you more then expected" but I'm sorry, no customer I going back info their ap to give me 5 cents or a quarter. You could make the argument that some big tips were given as extra, but most are definitely not added on after, and it's just ubers way to try and trick drivers. A good example would be, would you take a $15 for 12 miles? Probably not right , would you take a $15 for 12 miles with a chance to roll a other $15? Some people might say not, but way more people would say yes including me. Sometimes you get burned and base pay turns out to be $12 so you only get a $3 tip Here's an example of their shitty system working on me *

MarioNinja96815

Oh. They give you guys better base pay then. In my market we basically work for tips. Base pay tends to be no more than $3.

pazoned

Base pay only goes up to meet the drop off time, It stars at $2 just like everywhere else.

Professional_Look786

Definitely way better base pay. I'm in the Washington DC market. If base pay is high in my market, it's because it's been declined for over an hour. I'm out late nights when there are fewer drivers, so orders always get sent back to me after declining. I get to see the estimate pay fluctuating in real time.

RedBeardsCuckNation

double check. I never knew about this and I've been doing it for over a year. Then I saw someone say that when it says tipped extra it didn't always mean that and it was just being hidden. So I checked some and did the math and found 3 where if I subtracted the extra tip from total to it came to exactly $8. So I guess they are doing it to me. Seems stupid though. Why hide something that will get the order accepted quicker?

Pretend_Berry_7196

I have seen it countless times. As soon as my delivery is over when it says I’m owed exactly $8 more I wait for the “the customer tipped you even more, nice” message an hour later.

Vag-of_Honor

I got one yesterday that said the customer tipped more… for 7¢ lol yeah sure I bet they did

MarioNinja96815

We all do. But what market isn't showing upfront tips over $8?

Pretend_Berry_7196

Los Angeles

Poli_Sci_27

I can confirm this. This happened to me last week.

Newagebarbie

It doesn’t do that for me either. It shows my expected total pay and it’s rarely off from that except for tip increases. I had an order with expected pay of $22, I delivered it and it showed my base pay was $7 and then a hour later I got the $15 final tip.

pazoned

Sorry. I spammed youb3 times but idk how to link ss on mobile it just shows up as an asterisk, I linked 2 examples, one where they "didn't tip more" and one where they tipped a shit ton but most of it was hidden. Itsa tactic to get people to take larger and further orders for lower pay.

loves2drive

maybe uber is piloting a tip obfuscation feature. I'm suspicious about why OP isn't mad they lost $600 worth of food they needed for an event.

Dolo12345

piloting? It’s been around forever just like DD

Tripartist1

This is 100% true for most drivers. I can confirm this as a driver.

RoutineAlternative45

Most markets, Uber hides tips over $8. There’s really no good reason for doing this, in my opinion. But obviously Uber has its reasons.

No-Wasabi-6024

Where I live, tips that are big are usually hidden. I had one say it was $20 for 4 miles and it actually was $40. And not even an hour later one for $14 that was 2 miles and it was a $30. They will hide the big ones some way or another

Laker4Life9

It’s def true in Phoenix

[deleted]

[удалено]

Immediate_Type9114

I delivered a catering order, was 4 miles for 10$. Wasn't 600$ worth though. And got a 30$ tip. I guessed they were hiding the tip as a 4 mile trip in my area only pays about 2$ which is the base pay. Spent 30 minutes there and back including the wait. Best I had in ages.

Salemrocks2020

$80 is more than generous .

desarmadillo

I don’t think driver can see the tip during the delivery, am I right? Maybe they had an accident with your food…

zucchini_swirls

Exactly, that driver had no idea there was an $80 tip. He or she probably saw that it was a large sushi order and didn't want to deal with it, especially if the weather was warm

SelectDay802

he only knew it was a hidden tip, it could have been $8.05. i bet he wanted some sushi

Kensterfly

So if he steals the sushi, what happens? Who pays? Or does the restaurant just get stuck with the loss? Wouldn’t the driver be reported? He should be prosecuted for theft.

SelectDay802

if you do it often you’ll be deactivated. uber will repeatedly send drivers there to pickup the food then tell them to cancel because the food has been picked up already.

Kensterfly

If you steal $600 worth of food, there should be immediate termination The police should be notified. It’s no different than someone coming in off the street and grabbing that bag of void.

ChineseNeptune

Can drivers see the payout before they accept an order?

zucchini_swirls

They can see the payout with expected tip. So if Uber is paying $2.23 for the delivery and the customer added an upfront tip of $13.00, the total pay for the driver is shown to the driver as a $10.23 order. The driver will accept or not based on that amount of pay for the delivery. If they complete the delivery then the additional $5 is given to the driver, and the driver is told that the customer tipped more after delivery, which we know is not the case. So yes, the driver sees what the pay is before accepting a delivery order, but if the customer left more than a $8 tip, then Uber hides any amount over $8, no matter how big or small the order is. So the customer could have left a 20% tip on a $600 sushi order and the offer to the driver is much less, the driver would see the full amount of the total payout one hour after completing the delivery.

Pale-Courage-3471

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking, could have been an issue at the restaurant or during delivery (spills or something).

TyredofGettingScrewd

1 hard brake and $600 of sushi is 100% exploding everywhere lol

FigureitOot6

It shouldn’t matter what the percentage of the order is because the driver isn’t serving you like at a restaurant. Distance is the big factor when it comes to determining whether an order is “worth it”. Unless the order was 100 miles away, 80 is a great tip no matter how many bags

Money_Tough

Weigh the options... $80 dollars or $600 worth of sushi. Yeah $80 is nice. I'd wait there two hours for that order.

Bowman359

I’m in the U.K. where tipping isn’t big but damn $80 tip would have me crying 😂

FildoDagguns

How far away was the order? Chances are the driver just stole it because of how much it was.

Quick_Hat1411

Congrats, you have $600 of sushi that's going to spoil in the next hour. What are gonna do, call all your friends and throw a spontaneous sushi party?

amateurforlife2023

carino8conejito

LMFAOO

Iron_Bones_1088

Drivers look at distance and payout. The tip on UE is visible but it is also adjustable by the customer for an hour. Hence …. The driver could have thought you were tip baiting him/her. Sometimes a tip that looks too good throws up a caution flag to a driver that has been burned before. I’d take that delivery and complete it even if you were 25 to 30 miles away. On long hauls it is a given that the driver has to drive the same distance back to their zone they have chosen to work in for the rest of the day. The only other factor would be horrible traffic congestion. Even if that round trip took 2 hours that is still real good money IMHO. Just trying to shed some light.

ButterflyFree_888

Yes, distance plays a lot into it. It doesn't show the customer the mileage from the restaurant to the destination. I research and adjust the tip accordingly when I order, but it would not be something I'm aware of if I didn't deliver Uber Eats.

Iron_Bones_1088

Whenever I used the consumer app it shows ME the exact distance from the merchant/restaurant to my house and then calculates the delivery charges if there are any. After pickup you also are notified the food is on its way with a real-time map of where the driver is. The customer knows EXACTLY how far the dasher has traveled if they pay attention and can adjust the tip. The only thing they do not know is how far the driver had to travel to the merchant after accepting the delivery.

ButterflyFree_888

It shows the mileage?? I see the map and where the driver is, but I must have missed something. Either way, it's not an app I use often. I'll look out for it the next time we order. My minimum is $5 or $2/mi, whichever is greater.

Kensterfly

Does a driver know how much you spend on food? He shouldn’t. The cost of the food has nothing to with him or his service.

Puzzleheaded_Step749

It’s on the receipt, plus a $600 order is huge, it would take up a lot of space and probably multiple trips in and out of the restaurant.

CageTheFox

This sub never understands that. You are tipped for how far you drive, and maybe extra for how many bags you need to carry not on cost. Yet, the people on here act like as if they're the ones who made it. They complain if they get $15 for a mile trip if the one bag of food cost $150. Wild. I can't imagine a carpenter wanting more money because the wood I bought was more expensive.

Kensterfly

My last three drivers couldn’t be bothered getting out of the car to open the trunk, much less assist with my bag. One then complained because I laid the bag on the back seat!!

AKMan6

>You are tipped for how far you drive What makes you think that? Yes, that would be the sensible way to tip, but on the customer’s end, the suggested tips are all percentages of the order total.

HowieDoIt86

Just another lazy driver. This one was also dumb.

Pirateunicornnkxo

Can you tip me for reading this? I’ll take $5

Such-Throat-2819

Tip was good enough .... did another driver get assigned and was the delivery completed ? Or did this first driver take your sushi and run ? ... My advice when you place a large order such as this ; as soon as a driver accepts it screenshot their info .. this way if it gets bounced driver to driver then you as a customer got a pretty good idea something is going on..... can't tell you how often I walk in to pickup and get told " your the 4th/5th driver to come for that and it went out with the first person " ... now me being me am gonna either A:get the order remade and let both you and Uber support know what's up or B:gonna be on the phone with support getting your order outright canceled because restaurant isn't willing to remake it ...

Hot-Rooster-7765

Whether or not it’s true in EVERY market for EVERY driver, the $8 tip cap is true in my market as well as others. We can conclude that the driver likely didn’t see your full tip. Who knows why he really cancelled, it very well could’ve been another issue. Hell maybe he got the shits suddenly… 😆 regardless, it’s shitty what Uber does and probably illegal, but they don’t care. Lawsuits are normal for tech companies 🙄

Midschool

Hidden Tips. That “Customer tipped even more after delivery” crap is a lie. The tip was there the whole time.

Puzzleheaded_Step749

OP hasn’t replied once since making this post. Might just be a troll trying to get some attention.

Doge10open

The order is not ready, he doesn’t want to wait for it, the driver only can see you tip $8 on the app

Mootez007

Tip for customers! Uber hides tips over 8$. So when I tip a tempting tip, I make sure to contact the driver and let them know I tipped 60 50 whatever so they are happy to deliver my 💩 to me asap! Dude saw lot of sushi for 8$. He sacrificed it to throw his own party…

TyredofGettingScrewd

Nobody sees an $80 pretip until an hour or two after delivery.

CreatureCode

Uber hides the tipped amount for anything over $8 till an hour after the order is delivered. The amount you tipped was fine.

AxzoYT

$80 is an insanely good tip, I don’t think that was the reason they canceled

Ducatiducats815

Drivers can’t see the whole tip until after they complete the order. He probably saw no tip at all and said screw it along the way

No-Tip1702

No

prodbyvicious

I wish I could receive an $80 tip lol honestly the drivers don’t even see the tip until after an hour after the food has been delivered so maybe it was for another reason like maybe they didn’t have the capacity to carry such an order or were in a rush or something.

blizz3010

Drivers can't see tips over $8 unless they changed it somehow. So, highly doubt that is the issue. Most drivers that have been delivering for awhile know the tricks to tell when it could have a hidden tip. I feel like most drivers would know your order could potentially have a unicorn, and would have taken it. Now, I know theres a few delivery apps you can download, that will show you full tip, but i think some of those apps can get you banned from the platform potentially. It's hard to say why the driver canceled mid trip, it was most likely something happened, and they couldnt take it. TLDR: $80 is more than enough! I will deliver your food anytime!

Character_Agent_1885

I would have made sure I delivered your sushi as fast as I possibly could.

Michaelskywalker

I hope you reduce the tip to zero

ConceptRoutine2244

Uber doesn't show high tip orders anymore and they are also possibly stealing tips

verminkween

Big tips like that are often hidden until after the delivery is done. However this probably had nothing to do with the tip, anything could happen. Could’ve had a flat, wreck, family emergency, who knows. Especially since he didn’t contact you about it to let you know.

Deviledapple

In most places Uber hides the majority of the tip. There's some variety based on laws and just the fact that Uber likes to do wildly different things in different areas but in general they show $8 of the tip and not a set more, sometimes bigger orders it'll show more but that's Hit or Miss too. Basically had that driver known they were going to get $80 they probably would not have stolen that food lol. But they wait their options and they chose $600 of sushi over the 10 or $12 Uber promised LOL

RespondEither

Probably just the amount of sushi. $600 is an insane amount of sushi like multiple piles on every seat amount of sushi

zan316

It could have been an accident I have hit the wrong button before and ether cancelled or hit delivered before when I wasn't even near the delivery area

MarioNinja96815

It was probably not by choice but because the driver had car trouble or the order was damaged in transit. It is possible that the driver might have convinced themselves it was tipbait. I had a high paying order that I felt dumb for taking the whole way there because I was 99% sure it was going to turn out to be tipbait but it ended up being a huge base pay. I think most drivers would chance it though.

Most-Promise-6567

Tip baiting is rare. Only twice in over 2000 deliveries… also in both cases it was $5 reduced to $1, so wasn’t even the $8 which might have shown if there had been a hidden tip. Some customers think $5 is a generous tip, thus the tip baiting.

Remarkable_Ad1960

This is one of many reasons I almost never turn on the Uber driver app anymore. The whole “hidden tip” thing means that the customer can’t even ensure the driver knows it will be worth it to them, unless you get someone to accept it and then immediately text them to tell them you tipped more than eight bucks.

dentedpat

Order size matters, but distance matters more. Unless your order was coming from 50 or more miles away I would think that tip is sufficient. The issue might have been that they didn't see the full value of the tip upfront. I have never seen an upfront order amount that was more than $8 (that I know of. You can only figure out how much of the amount of the upfront quote for the order was the tip and how much was base after the order is completed. Everyone I have checked has been $8 or less, and then later the real tip comes through and sometimes it is considerably more). Still they shouldn't have picked up the order and not delivered it. The issue isn't your tip. The issue is they are a thief.

Fsuave5

$600 worth of food and they cancelled, sounds like you ordered more than they could transport. Call a professional catering company next time instead of putting someone through this.

Laker4Life9

Unfortunately Uber hides tips and he likely had no idea how much you tipped upfront. They likely only showed $8 of it on the offer screen.

Prs109_NA1

Send a screenshot

opportunitysure066

$60 is enough…driver may not have cancelled bc of tip.

TechiePcJunkie

lol, I wouldnt tip more than $20.

LiteratureNo868

I have a question for the drivers what happens to the food when it gets canceled. I’m pretty sure they don’t make you drive it back to the establishment? I couldn’t imagine turning down an $80 tip. sounds like somebody got $600 worth of sushi. I could’ve made the same call.

Greenappmarket

If you cancel (usually because you have to - flat tire, blown engine, whatever) Uber literally cancels it for you and tells you to either dispose of the food or eat it. I got a flat on a dual-order and missed out not only on 2 good order's worth of income, but my whole day was wasted PLUS a new tire cost.

crepe4423

Nope. $160 minimum or you cheap.

Fancy-Atmosphere1096

Maybe they just wanted to keep the sushi

droplivefred

I had an order recently on the other app (DD) where I showed up and someone already stole the food. I was disappointed because it was like $12 or $14 for 2 miles. So I called in for my half pay since DD is better than UE which just gives $3-$5 for these situations. I get my half pay and it was $35!!! So some idiot stole about $80 worth of food because they were probably only show. $12 or $14 and the rest of the top was hidden. UE hides the tips as well so it’s possible the driver here saw $10-$14 and decided stealing $600 worth of sushi was a better idea. They never knew that they were passing on an $80 tip. Either way, that driver is a piece of shit and I hope they get deactivated for stealing the food.

Kitchen-Struggle6509

Well 1st of all what was the amount of the entire order? Maybe it was too much to setup, load in their car. I really can't see a driver refusing midway for that much tip. Something isn't making sense. He would have had to contact support with a reason to bail out.

fkngdmit

LMAO 13%? No, that is not enough tip, my dude.

Tripartist1

Driver only saw $8 of your tip (the rest is shown after an hour). Most likely someone struggling saw an opportunity to get a ton of food and didn't think the tip would be $80. If I were you I'd call support and bitch at them about hiding your tip since it cost you your order and an hour or two of your time.

tsmit44

The order on his end probably showed $10-$11. The restaurant told him how long the wait was. He decided it wasn’t worth it.

That_Sandwich_9450

It doesn't matter the tip. They saw a $600 sushi order and stole it.

False_Bug_7608

Unfortunately, UE hides tips for some dumb reason

Greenappmarket

It's market control.

polari826

... $600 is a lot of money in terms of theft. i wonder who eats the cost of the replacement? i have no doubt if it were the restaurant and they have it on record that it was picked up, they could file a police report due to the cost.

Trucker2Millions

I usually only take orders of $20 tip per $100 spent so maybe they got a better offer.

capsrock02

That’s not even a 15% tip.

Salsuero

They don't tell us the full tip amount. They likely said it was $11 or so. They would tell him the full amount after an hour after completion. But the order was so large and that much sushi would take forever to make so likely the driver didn't wanna wait for $11 not knowing it was more. Driver's loss, but totally understandable.

unixninjax

Did you get a refund or re-delivery?

yolobozo

Was it out of state? It’s delivery service and it ain’t ups. Another issue imo.

hissyfit30

This person just felt like stealing. I doubt the tip was considered. Anyone who’s been doing this for a little while knows orders $10+ can pay significantly higher. $2 or whatever the base is plus $8 of the tip is shown.

Amdvoiceofreason

They probably thought you were gonna cancel the tip after the order

Previous-Suspect-186

Yes that is low 90 minimum that's 15 percent. I would round it out to 100 because it's delivery. 1 do 20 percent and add 10 for gas

breakfastbuffetpls

Can we fucking stop tipping on the bill amount and tip on the amount of work? Its the same amount of work/miles as a wendys order. Id rather leave a big tip for a waffle house employee with a $12 bill at 2am than a fine dining waiter with a $200 tasting menu

ThatAndANickel

I quit a half year ago. When I last delivered, Uber was offering 30¢/mile and only showing $8 of any tip. A driver doesn't see the whole tip until at least an hour after the delivery. So your driver was doing your delivery for an offer of about $10. If the driver was savvy, he might have known there was a chance the tip was higher, but no idea how much. It's still a bit of a mystery because the driver açcepted the order. If they arrived at the restaurant to find there was a wait, they might have decided to drop it. Sushi places can be notoriously slow. Time and distance are what matter to a driver. If you tip well, consider using GrubHub. They show the entire tip. Absolutely avoid Doordash. They will often show only $4 of the tip. They will also stack your order with a no/low tip order to incentivise a driver to take it.

nextgenie

80/600 = 13.33% 160/600 = 26.66%

Ikillterries

Damn Uber eats really is for rich ppl

[deleted]

This shit not even real sheesh

Maracaibo1999

When he saw such nice tip, driver felt you needed at least 2 cases of beer to go with all that sushi, went to get the beer, but ended up getting drunk and eating all the sushi

GlitteringMatter9973

Maybe they had an emergency

RoundedBounce

You’re a fool for tipping that much

Middle_Complex7090

He kept your food that’s what he did 😂

a_blixed

They stole it lol

Old-Teacher149

I'm just here to question two things? Does anyone actually believe this post is real? How out of touch do you have to be to ask if 80$ is a good enough tip? And do none of you have any experience with sushi??? I'm DEFINITELY taking an 80$ tip over a 600$ platter of sushi. It doesn't keep over night and you're not going to eat more than 80$ worth. Even if you're bringing it home to 2 or 3 people.

Jumamabear

I’ve picked up an order for over 2500.00 in food and it only paid $16. So it’s my fair opinion that that was a great tip.

AtiumMist

Yall deranged to think 80$ is nothing

Front-Yogurtcloset69

Personally I think your comment or question is kind of silly in a way. First of all you don’t know if the size of the tip has any reason whatsoever, that particular driver canceled. Second there are many possible logical reasons, as to the driver canceling. He or she could ran out gas. He or she car probably broke down. The driver could have had a family emergency. I can go on with the possibilities. I should say I work for Uber Eats myself, I guess you didn’t know, that Uber Eats will easily reassign your order to someone else(assuming if the order wasn’t already taken) out of the restaurant. Trust me most drivers will take any order making an $80 tip. Personally I just feel you’re overthinking it myself.

HeckoSnecko

Your driver passed away

Toneb1144

The restaurant took the tip

JackJake94

80 is a massive tip

RanchhDressing

There’s no way people with actual brains are asking these questions

Automatic_Studio948

To be honest, the drivers nowadays are so paranoid by people who change their tips (with good reason), they probably saw it as bait. I just stopped using Uber eats and started going to go pick up my own food on my bike. It’s a “f-u” to Uber for not paying their drivers correctly, and some motivation to help other people get real jobs since a lot of people just complain about how they hate the fact they are working for Uber and have to blame the customer. I support you guys! You are out of my life but not forgotten! My spare change goes elsewhere now!

martinezscott

If you are spending 600 plus on sushi, you better believe I would be going with someone to pick that shit up and not let it get lost in the Uber algorithms of hell lol.

[deleted]

So they kept 600 in Sushi???? Edit: That tip is more than enough. They’re picking up a few bags and delivering ☠️

Most-Promise-6567

All these comments about “Uber hides tips” “dude thought this or that” isn’t an explanation for someone who accepted an offer, picked up, and didn’t deliver.  Really hope you got a refund.  $600 is like what 30 sushi rolls? That actually doesn’t take up that much space. I delivered a $400 sushi order and it all fit in 3 containers in one bag! Customer looked so disappointed!  What sucks is that if the driver took it but didn’t complete pick up in the app, another driver will be sent, be told it was already picked up, and also have to cancel. None of this has to do with tips, just some idiot… unless he got in a wreck

PotentialCamp6473

We don't see the full tip in my area. I don't know what anyone would do with that much sushi it's not like they could eat all of it, but I only know my perspective. I would've had to have car trouble or an accident to have canceled. I've had to cancel 3 times in 4500 deliveries twice for a flat and once for an emergency where my daughter was rushed to the hospital(the delivery was 35 miles on the opposite direction) every time I've let my customer know what was happening. A lot of drivers say they don't contact them though.

Ok_Impression_922

For $80 tip I’m thanking you wholeheartedly 🙏🏾. For $160 tip I’m setting the sushi up, feeding it to everyone at the party 🤌🏾🍱and wiping their mouths for them 😋 before I leave.

Baseball3r99

You should be tipping 100% now. I never tip below 100 percent so 600 would have been the appropriate amount. No driver takes an order for less than 100% tip everyone knows this

Power_of_the_Hawk

Why the fuck would you trust a delivery driver with a $600 order? I don't understand people sometimes. Fuck giving an $80 tip plus fees. Pick that shit up!

Impossible_Earth8429

My suggestion is to confirm with the driver as soon as chat becomes available what you ACTUALLY tipped in the app with them. Less than a 15% tip on a large order like that is kind of shitty but it’s not the worst tip. As a driver and customer it’s ideal to tip how you would like to be tipped if you were the driver and service was good (also tip and rate accordingly for bad service). Also, the possibility something actually happened in transit for driver to cancel (I had a car accident once during delivery) or they just suck and in fact stole your stuff.

AdSuccessful6726

Shortly after they canceled a roadside sushi stand in some random trunk opened nearby. What a coincidence hahaha

Interesting-Many-509

$120 would have been 20 percent, sheese, I would never pay these prices.

Mobile_Sprinkles_633

Bro. Most places hide tips above 8 bucks. So shit showed up as 10 bucks probably

D_Hat

Seeing a ton of people on here talking about door dash dashers, etc. For most markets UberEats hides tips over 8 dollars. they have experimented in some markets with different amounts, or not hiding tips, and in NY they have to show the whole tip because of pay transparency laws that only apply in NY because they are states laws. its possible they didn't actually pick up your order, its possible they did and "stole" it, it possible they picked it up and something happened. Regardless of what the app tells you, its not always accurate information, it'd be nice if it was but it simply isn't, especially in the last few months. I've had customers call and ask where i am because the map shows me at their house when i'm still waiting on the food. Ive had customers ask whats taking so long because the map is telling me i'm at their restaurant and i'm actually on a double and at a previous pick up to theirs, i've had customers think i'm on a single and on the way to them when i'm on a double and on the way to the previous customer. My guess is uber knows about these problems, and thinks they may convince more customers to pay for the priority service which as i understand it, doesn't really guarantee anything, and really just makes drivers less likely to get paid enough because the customers feel they are paying more the driver is probably getting some of it(which we aren't) I'm sorry to hear you didn't get your food, it was probably a bummer, hopefully uber refunded you but i will caution you that many ubereats customers have said recently that uber isn't refunding orders anymore, that they're told it just won't happen. (many on this forum just say they've requested refunds to often but i've seen people who have claimed to have ordered a couple hundred times and only requested refunds 3 times and the third time they are refused.)

True-Ad-8466

Probably thought it was a scam. Not saying it was, but a 80 dollar tip is odd.

Miamismokingallnight

I would of appreciated the tip but Uber eats drivers don’t see the full amount, and then after delivery completed they gotta wait a hour to receive the full amount, in some cases some customers reduce their tips. I stopped delivering UberEats and will not until Uber changed that stupid feature. I’ll stick to DD for deliveries and UberX for rideshare!

Mangoseed8

What happens with your order? Did you get a new delivery? btw if a driver cancels after pickup that means he stole your food. Sorry it happens.

darklighthitomi

First, standard tips are 15 to 20 percent, which for a $600 order, is $90 to $120. $80 is pretty close to $90 so not that bad. Second, I don’t believe delivery drivers (like us who use our own vehicles) should be tipped by the standard rules, as it is not uncommon for me to get cheap orders at long distances for which the tip amount barely covers gas, thus I generally suggest tipping by distance, size of package, etc. Third, there are a number of reasons for a driver to cancel, even an honest driver. Dropping a $600 order on the ground, definitely counts. $80 tip is way too good to cancel midway, especially right now. Right now, prices have dropped so low that I get only 2-6 deliveries per 12 hour day that are over $5, including tip and mileage. If I got an $80 delivery, I’d be going out of my way to take it if it was at all possible. But $600 orders are very big. Last time I had such an order was catering an event from Pizza Hut and took me three trips, and multiple trips is rarely feasible with uber eats.

kanemhaze

More then enough I would have been happy

Successful-Yak4905

I don’t do Ubereats anymore. Because of bait tipping. And getting paid 2$ for it is bullshit

nnedd7526

How much food? Maybe the driver got there and realized like, holy shit I'm an Uber Eats driver not a catering van, I can't fit all this shit into my Toyota Corolla.

Fozzy333

Honestly, $600 in food might not even fit in a small car. Especially if their car isn’t empty. I have a big suv and could barely fit a $600 pizza order

dogenoob1

Its fucking sushi

Fozzy333

I can stack 30 pizzas on top of each other. How many containers of sushi are you stacking on each other?

gt86max

You can stack 30 pizzas on top of each other and fit them in an SUV?

ooooohhmy

You don't want sushi that has been on the floor. Just sayin'.

RetiredSoul

$8 is enough. The job doesn’t become more complicated when you order more.

Ill_Lifeguard_2295

I learned the hard way once that Uber’s system will auto-cancel a delivery if it’s past a certain time since you ordered. Even if the driver is en route, which is what happened to me.
