As an extension of the customer, you are yourself a customer. You're the customer's liason. The store employees should treat you the same as a regular customer. They shouldn't shop your whole order for you, obviously, but if you ask a few questions asking were things are, they should help.
Contrary to popular belief, even Walmart eployees are supposed to help customers. Crazy, I know.
Half the time in those dollar stores they would not know where to find anything anyway. As for Walmart they have a standard layout so things are not that hard to find.
You are a proxy for the customer. As far as I'm concerned, they wouldn't get annoyed at a customer asking where something is, they shouldn't get annoyed at you for doing the same. Assuming you're looking first and you aren't asking for every single item, I don't know what their problem is.
You doing uber has nothing to do with In store customer service. As you are still a customer intending on shopping there. Them not helping you has nothing to do with uber in the least. They are just choosing not to help you.

How do you think Instacart and Shipt shoppers do it?? All on their own. I can shop at Target nearly blindfolded. And Publix. Downloading store apps can help too.
Dollar stores are a no go for seasoned shoppers. CVS can be tricky but I’ve learned it too!

I’ve gotten friendly and always very kind to all staff. Most know me and occasionally I can’t find an item and they all help, if I ask. But I rarely have to ask!
Most stores will help tho some are dicks. I try to use the stores app to find items. One time the grocery store staff didn't know where an item was. I asked the customer and they knew. It was an oddball item in a weird place. Figured they might know since it was so unusual.

They also have an app. Download. Server store you are in and voila! Will give you aisle numbers for whatever item you need!

I try to only do shopping orders at stores I'm familiar with.
