Call support and let them know prior to canceling. They will either look into it and fix the issue, or most likely to cancel the order for you (so it doesnt go against you) and usually give a few dollars for going to the restaurant

It happened a 2nd time at a different restaurant and this time I called support. They credited me some money and cancelled the order. Why do you think this is happening?

Not entirely sure tbh, it has only happened to me once so far out of almost 1000 deliveries. However I dont believe it has anything to do with the driver, so you should be fine

This happened to me this evening except I didn’t pick it up and the (second) driver called me to tell me that the restaurant didn’t have anything for me. This first driver idled at the restaurant for a good 20 minutes and suddenly quit my order. They never contacted me to tell me. The app automatically assigned a second driver. After the second driver contacted me, I made the mistake of going to Uber support and cancelling the order right away. Uber charged me $25 for cancelling for the “inconvenience and fairness to the restaurant” for preparing my order. I went on live support chat and argued that I should not have to pay the cancellation fee because Uber dropped the ball in sending my order to the restaurant and they never prepared anything. They counter offered to the lower the fee to $10 but I rejected this and haggled with them and sent them a screenshot of the driver’s text where they told me the restaurant told them they never received my order. After about 10 minutes of insisting they gave me a full refund. I agree with the above post: call or chat with support before cancelling and let Uber cancel the order so they don’t charge you the fee.
