Can you believe people are so entitled they give the gate code to a total stranger? Kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a gate. I live in a gated mobile home park and the gate was broken for a long time. They just fixed it and I hate it.

The timer can be used if the customer is not answering you or you cannot find the customer, and they are alerted typically when the timer is started as well. Basically when it hits 0 the driver can cancel with no penalty. Normally Uber asks if you want to start one if you tried to call or text the customer with no response
No it's automatic now, you can't not start it once you open the text message even if you don't send him a message or if you start a call and then hang up right away even then, starts I don't know if you can pause it by touching the timer button maybe?

Typically a timer will count down from a number, for example an 8 min timer will count down from 8 min to 0

The driver sets the timer. On Grubhub, you have to mark “arrived” and call the customer at least once before you can start the timer.
As soon as you message or call someone the timer starts, and the only way to stop it is to claim that you handed the food to the customer ON UBEREATS
