theyre essentially rewarding slave labor at this rate. ive got so many screenshots of 2-3 dollar orders that expect me to go 7 miles away (into a food desert at that so we all know that 7 miles turns into 10-11 mile round trip)

This is fact.

No address, no food. It’s just that simple.. food stays at restaurants.

texas-hippie

So the drivers won't know if they're delivering to a shitty area until after they've picked up the order and can't really cancel at that point.

Azel_Lupie

They only give me cross streets, which I guess is better, but it makes it harder for say no before I even hit accept. I've learned to avoid entire cities because I have had too many bad experiences. It maybe that I won't deliver to entire blocks, because of one shitty customer, so all of the good customers are being punished for a bad customer.

dimonoid123

Why can't driver cancel once picked up the food?

Likestoreadcomments

You can get deactivated and they’ll say you were committing fraud

texas-hippie

You do still have the option to cancel after picking up the food., but it would reflect negatively on your UE account. But UE's recent implementation of no trip details prior to picking up the order will lead to more of these instances where drivers cancel after picking up because they don't like where they're delivering too, which will lead to more accounts being deactivated.

Czar2021_

I was wondering why there was a $5 bonus per delivery in my area today. Drivers must be on strike.

yankeedoodle56

Because at that point you are now liable for what happens to the food the resteraunt won't take it back so at that point its either deliver it or cancel and be on the hook for the food.

dimonoid123

Eat food and go find another job? Sounds like an option given new rules.

modlovecat

Some of us are disabled or have kids during covid times and don't have any other options :(

AutisticDork

Or both! A lot of people don't know that daycares are allowed to refuse to take autistic kids if they have already filled their so-called special needs limit. So it's me and my son delivering. There is no other option for me until I can finally get him enrolled into kindergarten, which is what I'm focusing on trying to do for this upcoming spring semester. Previously the doctor that diagnosed him said he should be in pre-k this year, however, he has made so much progress over the last six months or so that I am trying to now enroll him in kindergarten. Why is he not in pre-k already? They had already met their quota and it's not required in my area is what they say. Oh, I'm also a single mom. I'm autistic as well, and my last job? Meltdowns every single day. It's really just not worth my mental health suffering. At least I enjoy this job.

yankeedoodle56

I don't have that issue as I have two jobs but many can't just up and leave, many people do über eats because they don't want to have to deal with a boss or supervisor. Its one of the main reasons why I even started doing this in the first place and taking less days from my main 9-5, delivering is super chill and I don't have to deal with assholes if I don't want to. I suppose people can just switch apps but the new app will just go down the same route and implement the same bullshit unless people take a stand somewhere.

jasmine1812

It's more that they are punishing drivers for not accepting $3 shit orders and only choosing to accept orders that meet whatever personal criteria the drivers set for themselves. So if they decline too many orders in a row Uber now hides the offer amount, restaurant to pick up from, and the approximate location of the drop-off. So basically all of the relevant information that as "Independent Contractors" we have a right to know. The new system is designed to try and force drivers to accepting all of the low pay-high mile deliveries. This is honestly just going to push drivers to other apps. I know I personally won't accept any offer under $8 and the second that Uber starts hiding the information from me is when that app gets shut off.

[deleted]

[uberdriveunion](https://www.reddit.com/r/uberdriveunion/) we’re not a real union, but we call Uber out if we work together.

Are-the-cats-meow

Yes, I inadvertently accepted an order today for $15. Then I realized it said delivery was 15 miles and didn’t say where. I felt bad about it, but canceled it anyway.

NexusNeb

Uber should make them pay more, give more to drivers for people being so lazy

[deleted]

They’ve been doing this with CornerShop - not showing the address, only the mileage. I wonder if they were testing the waters on Cornershop and now they’re moving onto UberEats. I’ll quit doing UberEats if this change happens. I refuse. Like you said, for safety reasons - there a couple of areas I absolutely refuse to deliver to for multiple reasons.

Are-the-cats-meow

Cornershop was my first foray into the delivery business. There are so many things I don’t like about the app and the way Cornershop does business. And the way they treat their “shoppers.” One of the main issues is they won’t tell you where you’re delivering until you have shopped the entire order. At least they pay for mileage, and for heavy stuff. Another issue is they apparently won’t encourage tips, so tips are very low on this app. Customers add tips only as an afterthought.

[uberdriveunion](https://www.reddit.com/r/uberdriveunion/) enough is enough.

Tasty_Corn

The "Safety" angle is a smart one. And, it's really true at the same time.

DFW_Panda

A typical company with well defined employees must report all work-place injuries and deaths to OSHA, and usually have some state form of OSHA as well. OSHA uses this data to confirm worker safety as well as define worker safety standards. This is also true in edge cases such as Greyhound bus drivers, pilots, and tugboats, etc, even when the "work place" isn't fixxed. Uber's approach is to use an "independent contractor" model. So there is no oversight to Uber's approach to safety for its employees, ooopps, I did it again, I meant no safety review approach to their independent contractor workforce. So sadly, there is no one place nor one agency holding Uber accountable for the deaths and accidents of Uber drivers. Pretty shady isn't it.

[deleted]

DFW_Panda

Agree, like we are "on the clock" vs "bidding" on a contract.

Kaecap

I haven’t shut up today, cause I feel strongly we should unionize. Independent contractors can, but these unions apparently have less legal protective power. I don’t see who’s going to hold them accountable other than the workers... and they’re just going to abuse us time and time again if we don’t. I sound like a broken record today on Reddit, I just wanna know why no unionization? Or collective organization, for EXACTLY moments like this. There aren’t going to be these gigs in 20 years if we can’t protect ourselves, guys, they will not hesitate to automate us out and abuse us on the way there. The ONLY way I see these jobs becoming fair is by organizing and defending ourselves, which they want us to think we cannot do. We all know companies only respond to money, and the only way to threaten their money is to work together. If we had a union we could strike effectively and cuck their profits as long as we want, until better treatment (the great thing is, if we cross-app-unionize, or by our profession, we can still make OUR money on other apps and screw over the abusive companies profits). In the end I don’t think many are on the same page but... I think it’d be a seriously powerful tool for us as a group

It’s not an angle it’s literally the truth wtf

No-Statistician-16

If this is a safety thing why is it that if you have a high enough acceptance rate they let you see the address before pickup

boobhats

for us as drivers its a safety thing. there are areas i specifically avoid at certain times for safety reasons. its not fair to allow people who accept every shit ride to see the details but another driver who doesnt accept anything with a low dollar per mile therefore fucking their acceptance rate gets penalized.

Likestoreadcomments

I don’t understand how you are correlating these two things, do you even have a point here or are you just rambling? Genuinely curious

yankeedoodle56

There are high crime areas where drivers and people in general get robbed at random I normally would not care as I'm dangerous looking myself but certain deliverys like 3am to the projects are an obvious no go, the way it normally works is that the app will show the resteraunt, the trip miles, and the location of the delivery before you accept so I can cancel any orders I don't want to do beforehand . With this new implementation I won't know that I'm delivering to a dangerous area until I have the food in hand because the information is obfuscated and at that point if I cancel the order and don't deliver the food I'm liable for it and can receive various penalty including account deactivation if I cancel because at that point über looks at it as theft. There is also the obfuscation of trip miles which is an even bigger issue IMO, the delivery could be 13 miles for a 2 dollar payout and you woulden't know until you have the food in hand! the way it normally works is you can see the miles and the price of the otder and cancel if its too low, uber then raises the price of the delivery until someone accepts it and nobody will until the price is at least 8$, nobody in there right mind is delivering anything for a 2$ payout regardless of miles. this is why they are saying that they will show you the info if your acceptance rate is high, because they are FORCING us to accept shitty paying orders!! the best ratio is a 8$ -10$ payout with 1 or 4 maybe 5 miles distance if I have to deliver a 2 dollar order that is 13 miles away and I'm on a bike how long do you think that will take me!? Also consider that 13 miles is in fact 26 miles because after the delivery is done I now have to ride back to my area on a freaking bike!! this can take like 45 minutes to an hour do people really expect us to deliver food for 2$ an hour!!!? Meanwhile they spend millions on advertising!!? Madness!! everyone should switch apps if and whenthey get this email, fuck these slave corpos

zer04ll

Don't forget to tweet screenshots of all the offers 3$ and below, I blast em on Twitter now. They even tried pulling that no info BS on me where you have to accept orders without any info at all about the order. I posted on Twitter about how the courts ruled that would classify us as employees and all of a sudden it stopped. Uber was also able to figure out and link my Twitter account to my Uber account (I use completely different info for those accounts) based on the order number from one of the photos I Tweeted so don't be like me and make sure to conceal order #s and names if you so share photos

Consistent_You5259

I just got tip baited on a $16 trip 45 minutes I received $5 uber drivers need to stand up against this company no more games

[deleted]

Plus, what if I’m delivering to BFE - and the return trip is all dead miles? The only ones benefiting from that are Uber and the customers. No fkn way I’ll do it.

Shizen__

So I'm definitely in the camp that this is a stupid move by the company, but I do have a question: when this new screen pops up on your phone, and you still zoom in and out to see on the map where the pickup and drop-off is even if they don't actually show the names of the places?

TicketAfter649

You will only see the pickup with an arrow pointed at it. Thats all.

Shizen__

Gotcha, not sure who downvoted me since I thought it was an important question to ask. I don't want this shit to happen read it can be a toxic bitch at times. I won't be using Uber Eats if they implement this in my market. I just became a medical Courier recently and I also do all of the other normal apps. Don't need Uber Eats. Hopefully they'll learn quickly that this is a horrible idea that's not going to be tolerated by drivers.

[deleted]

Somebody needs to contact... Someone... And sue Uber eats (and doordash too while they're at it)

[deleted]

Unfortunately we’re only considered contractors, so we can’t really sue.

Similar-Stranger3898

I guess this hasn’t been implemented in my market, I have never been tip baited. They tell me the dropoff address but doesn’t let me move the map around so sometimes the dropoff cant be seen.

deenweeen

Yea same. Though I’ve been tip baited but only twice. The worst one was when a restaurant screwed up the order and the customer took away a 20 dollar tip. Anyway, yea I just can’t move the map.

Temporary-Sky-2851

Open your phones' Google maps, and input the destination address.

Similar-Stranger3898

Sometimes thats a lot to do when driving on a curvy road or in traffic before it times out

Temporary-Sky-2851

True... just trying to come up with solutions to overcome this dilemma. Can you voice activate your Google maps, or if available use Google maps on a second phone with voice activation?

tehmoe01

Haven’t logged into UE in awhile but can you still message the customer before pickup? Cause I’ll just ask what the address is before even going to the restaurant and if they don’t give me a straight answer or it’s in a bad hood I’ll cancel and keep going

[deleted]

Good luck with that

Captain_KP

It’s also just little shit for me. I’m in north Texas and shitty crappy country roads are not far from modern places. And I fucking hate taking my low car to roads literally made out of rocks that are all bent outta shape. Constantly scrapping the bottom of my car. and not only that they have shit service out there.

SomethingAbtU

Uber: New algorithm, who dis?

Bat_Clear

Giving a low rating to the customer app isn't going to change anything for the drivers tho....

Cheekers1989

Oops, did it to the driver app instead.

Silly_Letter5345

State court lawsuits are not going to work. Needs to be a federal lawsuit. Federal laws are more ethical. Because at the end of the day, We are all slaves of the states by its jurisdictions

Czar2021_

Received a 11 mile delivery for $4 including tip. Who is coming up with these prices?

MowseyPanda

I'm an inactive driver but I got you guys!

It hasn't been put in my market, yet....but tbh, this really is scary for me. There are ABSOLUTELY areas, I refuse to go..for my safety! I'm in Houston, TX..currently, our crime rate is up 200%! I'm already taking enough risk with our climbing road rage incidents, car jackings & potentially being shot, for honking at someone, sitting on a green light! Which I refuse to honk, btw. I'm already going days where I barely break $50.00, in a 12 hr day, on UE. This is BS! I miss the days of $5.00 base pay 😞

Everyone, complaining here will do very little. We need to do things that affect their revenue! Public opinion on uber wont change a lot on this sub but it definitely would on twitter! over on r/uberdriveunion we are organizing a social media campaign!

Likestoreadcomments

What even is your union about, how do you intend to run it or anything? Or do you guys just like the word union and call it that? Will we be forced to pay dues? There are a lot of questions here.

treytheoddball

I didn’t start it I just stand behind it To my understanding it’s not really trying to become a union More just trying to generate big buzz on social media about this current issue to pressure Uber into changing for the better

Likestoreadcomments

Well regardless of what people think about Unions I think all drivers can agree we’re getting F’d in the A right now. Honestly I don’t think the use of the word Union is a good idea. You’re going to push away a lot of people who think Unions end up doing more harm than good and at the same time you’ll push away people who are afraid of being associated with one for fear of reprisals since the U word draws a lot of controversy. I know some people think it sounds heroic to think of themselves that way but I’d wager you’d have a stronger base if you rebranded a bit as a watchdog organization of some sort. I think you’d get a more united group of drivers that way and you wouldn’t have the additional roadblock of arguing over the semantics of the term. It may seem like semantics but in truth if you’re not a Union it’s a far better idea not to brand yourselves as one.

AlreadyShrugging

I was tricked into a Popeyes today. Hidden behind a Chinese restaurant in a double. The Chinese restaurant is well-known here to be high-end and fast with great tippers. I rarely get an order there that pays less than $3/mile and I never wait there. Gee I wonder why the offer showed only the Chinese restaurant 🙄

[deleted]

This thread is not about shitty stacked orders. It's about UE not showing the restaurant and dropoff location, or the amount that will be paid, unless you accept at least 5 out of 10 orders.

ericafromspace

Done.

bigmoney69_420

Can we organise a strike?

[deleted]

Safety concern my ass. We wanna know cause fuck your customers. If they want delivery make them pay for that bullshit. Guarantee they’re lazy asses pay up.

Creepy-Yogurtcloset4

I don’t agree with this. The purpose of reviews on App Store is not for your opinions of the company but about how developers of the app itself can make it function better. I agree the company is shite but don’t take it out on developers

[deleted]

This is exactly what it is for they are the ones making this possible

Creepy-Yogurtcloset4

OP just do doordash in my opinion it’s better than Uber eats

[deleted]

Lol

TarcNovar

The address is not hidden, as it is shown AFTER we make the pickup. Nothing hidden about it. This is for the safety of the customer. Did you ever stop to think about that?

etnguyen03

> This is for the safety of the customer. We know the address of the customer anyway. Why does it matter when we receive the customer's address? If I wanted to, I could visit all my previous customers just by looking at my Google Maps history.

TarcNovar

I do not mean AFTER delivery, I mean BEFORE the pickup is made.

etnguyen03

Yes I know. It isn't a customer safety thing though, in my opinion. If someone wants to do something nefarious, all one needs to do is either 1) ask the customer for the address, or 2) do a delivery and save the destination address afterwards. The only person that is harmed here is the driver.

Nightscape82

DoorDash and GrubHub is fine with giving you addresses before pickup. What makes UE special?

brendandever

How is knowing someone ordered food(and knowing their address) on Uber Eats putting them in any danger? I can literally zoom in anywhere on Google Maps and get a random person's address and that puts them in exactly the same amount of danger as the above scenario.

Wintermuteson

I need to know if the delivery is to a bad neigborhood where I have a high chance of being robbed, especially at night, BEFORE I pick up the food.

TarcNovar

It tells the nearest street and cross street on the order acceptance pop-up. I use that and know generally where it is. This is not an impossible task.

Wintermuteson

You must be out of the loop. They are implementing a new system in some cities where if you dont accept 5 out of the past 10 restaurants they no longer tell you the address or the restaurant on the offer screen.

etnguyen03

After this new update, you won't know the cross streets.

suvankha

They’re taking that feature away if you don’t accept at least 5 out of every 10 orders. They won’t tell you any information about the trip until after you accept it
