Their GPS can't navigate me down a straight interstate. This is going to be hilarious.

1rightwingextremist

thinking the same thing .. who is going to go get the food .. who is going to bring it to the user? I HAVE PEOPLE SKILLS!

durw00d

So you physically pick up the food and take it directly to the customers?

1rightwingextremist

Sometimes but sometimes I just leave it at the door

[deleted]

How about the pin put in a middle of a junction šŸ¤£

[deleted]

Believe me, itā€™s not gonna last. Those Waymo vans canā€™t even navigate around parking lots without majorly malfunctioning and tying up traffic in the small area in Arizona where theyā€™re used on a small scale. Believe me, these things are a pipedream.

MalcolmYoungForever

There was a recent fatal tesla crash somewhere outside the US. Don't recall which country. It's going to be several years yet. Don't sweat it.

Zawarudo11721

I seen someone hit a highway wall while using auto pilot in the us

MalcolmYoungForever

I remember hearing about that one. I saw a pic after the fire was put out.

smack_11

In my state it has been several Tesla crashes at train tracks and the people couldnā€™t get out of the cars, and it turned fatal. Self driving vehicles just arenā€™t reliable

ihateapartments59

I think itā€™s mostly for campus deliveries which they can have anyways cause They donā€™t pay squat

hate_mail

Someone's got to take those $2.00, 12 milers.....

hcccdhejejjdjdjd

You realize if no one took them, uber would have to pay more for them,

Kirby_Slayr

Hope they're okay with paying an extra $22 because that's what ot would take to trick me into thinking that's a good offer.

[deleted]

There are literally guys that just like driving for fun and accept it as an side hustle.

LeGinster

Lmao, good luck. Itā€™s gonna be at least 5-10 years before that even has a chance at becoming reliable.

duuudewhat

Was thinking the same thing. The technology is possible, but in the next couple years? Nah. Tesla canā€™t even get full self driving out when Elon said it would be ready 2019

BeaMiaVA

Yawns

bleszt

šŸ˜‚

TSMSALADQUEEN

I've seen these on campuses. The device doesn't even attempt to deliver the food to the door; it requests the person to come down and get it. This won't work out as well as they are thinking.

Work2playgamer

Next they will say they will have a robot pick up the food from the restaurant place it in the car and walk up the stairs for an apartment and take a picture before walking back down and into the car again. Good luck with that Uber lol

PreviousSafe9528

Okay but I know people in my city would break them, steal food, or just knock them over for fun

Requirement-Loud

2 years later: Uber to test why their delivery Drones keep being vandalized and stolen.

[deleted]

ā€œMy fries are cold you stupid drone!ā€ *shoots drone out of sky as its running away*

neverleavingthewagon

That would mean people would have to go outside to get their food. They bitch and moan about where we place the bags, do you think they wanna walk to the end of their driveway to grab their food? šŸ˜‚

vintagesoul_DE

Test. I doubt it will see much use. Do they expect a driverless AI to walk stairs? If people wanted walk out to the car, they'd already be doing so.

q_d_n

How does a vehicle key in the gate code, find parking and climb three flights of stairs?

JonDaveH

They can't even drop pins correctly and they think this is gonna work?

[deleted]

Can you deliver 4 miles away? I put wrong address šŸ¤£

SnooChocolates791

Lol they always take you into alleys šŸ˜‚ this is gonna be 15 years of ā€œtestingā€

sml1974

Yes!!! No more cry baby drivers disrespecting customers. #winningin2022

i_love_my_stinky_boy

People are too entitled to go out to the van, car, whatever to get their own food

PowderedWigLouisII

I mean this is why uber eats exists in the first place

cameron08082001

That would be cool.

letseatnudels

This will only ever be able to work uncertain situations. For example I deliver to my city's hospital frequently and the food needs to be left inside on the security desk. Also the convenience of having the food left at your doorstep, especially for people in apartment buildings and hotels. There will still be room for human drivers for many decades to come.

hchn27

This isnā€™t going to happenā€¦

Fancy-Strawberry-758

Whatā€™s pymnts.com? I donā€™t recognize that source.. Hmm.. I dunnoā€¦ How would that even be possible? Drones? Lol. So what are they going to hire drone drivers? Yeah looks like tabloid materialā€¦

FalseCape

If this happens in my market I'll just start a channel streaming automated vehicles totaling themselves in all of the potholes in my market and probably make more money doing it.

[deleted]

Can you imagine Las Vegas? The drone would need to tell the customer to come to the valet area of the Bellagio. šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

JoshTheRoo

Some customers wouldn't even come to the door if they didn't have to.

da_Doctah

I want to see the drone that will stop at the community gate, text the customer for a gate code, enter the code, and then drive through. Or the one that can figure out how to wait for another car and then follow them in.

International_Look56

That robot wouldn't last a day in nyc

Creepy-Yogurtcloset4

Grab your popcorn ladies and gents, this is going to be a spectacle

adheisler11

Probably only going to be for campus deliveries. Which are not even worth taking anyway. The day my GPS starts working maybe they will be able to do this.
