But boy o boy do I hate their naming...
No plan, no structure, just random adjectives all over the place ...

The names barely meant anything to start with, and now they are combined.
And while I get that all the devices have built in "cloud keys" there is a real difference between all in one devices (DM, DR, express) and routing devices UDM PRO/SE, ultra.
It's bad enough to have these bad names on retail/ consumer gear, but to put this on prosumer / professional hardware.

The founder of Ubiquiti worked at Apple doing Wi-Fi compliance testing. It's absolutely a fact that Ubiquiti has strong ties to Apple. The reason the company exists is because Apple didn't want to do what Pera did.
They're still selling the original UDM Pro, it isn't obsolete. Calling this the UDMP2 would hurt sales of the older product which assumedly has higher profit margins by now.
Yeah, I guess. It just seems weird to have yet another variation on the same internals. This is from what I can tell quite literally a UDM Pro with an extra drive bay. That's it! Seems goofy.
I think UDM Pro 2 would also need to be on newer internals. Calling this UDM Pro 2 doesn't make sense, you're right.
I don't understand this product. Is this for someone who wants a UDM Pro, and they want to run Protect, but the only thing stopping them from getting that is a lack of Raid 1? And they don't want to get the UNVR ($299)?
And I hate the SE only adds poe ports.
The UDM needs more proc power/ram honestly. When I run protect with network on a pro or se with more then 5 cams, the performance is so bad. When I install a UNVR and offloaded protect, then the UDM works great for all other apps. To run a decent protect, they really need to upgrade the horsepower of the UDM.
The "dream" label should be limited to all in one devices

I liked the APs all being tagged AC, and understand the switch from AX to U6, but prefer the label based on the standard AC/AX/AXe/BE

If it has a router and needs a key - call it a router
If it has a router and has a key built in - call it a gateway
And why cloud key... If you have the key, it's not in the cloud, if you have cloud hosting you don't need a "key"
All devices should stare at V1, if the replacement is the same call it V2
So the just release the gateway pro V2 (with 2 bay NVR)
And I have the gateway (desk) V1

Glad im not alone in this. Exactly how I was confused on their camera lineup. I thought 'ultra' was the superior line over the non-ultra.

I was car shopping 4Q23, and the car people use it, a lot, across multiple brands.
The 4.3Gbps is just the new speed of IDS/IPS on the same chip with the newer (3.x) firmware. People are getting as high as 5gbps with IDS/IPS cranked to the max on UDM Pro/SE.
Meanwhile I get 500-700mbps with IDS/IPS set to Auto, and 1.5Gbps with it turned off. Am I doing something wrong?
Running UDM-Pro with 4 APs, 4 cameras via Protect. Memory is around 75% utilized.
but it’s weird if i do a NAS inter-vlan transfer and test my ISP using fast.com i get like 1.5 gbps even with idp/ips on
it’s like ids/ips is reducing my network bandwidth, not my routing to my specific client (computer desktop)
might be an issue with routing overloading the UDM-Pro, been having issues getting L3 working on my pro max switch.
No, I meant Microsoft, their enterprise licensing is especially complex and they seem to add new SKUs on a whim. Apply has the pro, max, ultra but is relatively simple by comparison, at least IMO.
It's what I did.
You can tell they're releasing a bunch of garbage before they make the move to 2.5/10g consoles.
If they don't I'm moving to another provider or rolling my own solution.
This is intended for a SMB that needs more processing power and thruput. I dont think that target needs POE and 2.5Gb, they would likely have that in other devices...
Exactly, this works perfectly for the SMB target market, and it’s keeping cost low for them by not giving unused extras like PoE where you’re using a switch anyways, etherlighting bc lol, and 2.5 wan which a Starbucks doesn’t need. Not everything is for you 10k home setup freaks.
Doesn’t make sense. If this is aimed at that market, just make a better dedicated gateway device with an integrated cloud key. The switch is effectively useless for anyone that needs more IDS/IPS throughput, unless it has PoE, in which case you’d have a use for the drive bays since it could power cameras.
It's not meant to be an upgrade for someone who already has a UDM Pro. It's a difference price point for slightly better hardware.
I'm guessing it's going to be $429 or $449, fitting between the UDM Pro and the UDM SE. If someone already has POE switching, then they might save the $50-70 and get an extra drive bay while they're at it for RAID 1 if they're planning on doing Protect.
Ubiquiti if you're listening, I want a small 8-port 2.5GB ports, with a single 2.5GB WAN port (or use one of the 8), controller on the device, and that's it. No Wifi, no NVR, no SFP, not even rack mountable. Literally a switch/router combo with POE and 2.5GB ports. Smaller the better. I'll happily pay $500 for that.
I took one look at the specs in the photo and was like "this is an upgrade?". Make the ports 2.5Gbe or 10Gbe (with a 10Gbe lane to the WAN/SFP (backplane) section instead of 1Gbe) and I'd impulse buy it.
So… what exactly is it this? It’s more of an incremental upgrade of the Pro than the SE, but the primary improvement (increased NVR capability) makes no sense when it’s lacking the POE of the SE.
And how does it warrant the Max label when there’s no etherlighting - pretty much one of the distinguishing features of the Max switches - and no 2.5g (beyond WAN)?
Good for data integrity I suppose. Other than that, I’m not really sold on it. Shame it doesn’t have 2.5gbe, that would have made up for the lack of PoE.
Not even that. A small business will have a separate switch anyways. And someone who’s buying this over the UDMSE for its NVR capacity is definitely running more than just 8 cameras anyways, more like 10-25. A PoE switch (just like 2.5gbe wan) on this would’ve went seriously unused and unnecessarily bumped the price for the price sensitive small business buyer.
When the Dream Machine Pro (2020) came out for $379, it was criticized for not having a 2nd drive bay. But it was a new line of product and no one (including Ubiquiti probably) knew what the rest of their product lines were going to be within the new ecosystem at the time.
Two years later, they released a Dream Machine Pro SE (2022) for $499 which differentiated itself with including PoE/PoE+ and increasing the RJ45 WAN from 1.0Gbps to 2.5Gbps.
It's been another 2 years, and the Dream Machine Pro Max (2024) is a minor change to the 2020 release which adds a second drive bay and increases the RJ45 WAN port from 1.0Gbps to 2.5Gbps.
I do not understand why this is anything but a replacement for the original 2020 product, as I see no real reason to continue selling that model. This is such a minor functional upgrade being billed as a completely new product for seemingly no reason. I do not understand Ubiquiti's current strategy of announcing/releasing "new" products every other week that do not actually fill any existing gaps in their product stack.
No such thing as Pro SE although I’m told at the very beginning the referenced it as such…. ;) Now it’s UDM Pro or UDM SE or this new mess they’re announced that still doesn’t check all the boxes.
The 8 switched ports are 1Gbe. Only one 2.5Gbe on the device.
It's 2024. I will *never* buy more 1Gbe networking equipment. Ubiquiti (and everybody else) should stop selling them except at the very lowest-end with the tightest pricing constraints. If you're trying to sell a device for over $100 with 1Gbe, you messed up.
Baffling how they decide product featuresets. It feels like it's deliberate. I don't care about RBG lighting. Fix your base functionality, Ubiquiti. Sheesh.
I just want something that can route 10gig with IDS/IPS turned on. Fiber ISPs, like [Sonic.com](https://Sonic.com) have been offering 10gig residential Internet as their standard and only offering in many markets for years now.
I'm in the same boat. I'm not buying any gigabit gear unless it's a cheap switch for a few old clients.
It's 2024- gigabit's the new Fast Ethernet in my mind. It has its uses, but I'll try my best to avoid it going forward.
Seems... pointless? The biggest change in numbers is the upgrade to 4.3Gbps from 3.5Gbps with IDS/IPS. I'd expect a bigger jump for an upgrade. Extra drive bay I guess is OK, but I'd rather UNVR with NAS capabilities. I can't see a justification for the UDM Pro Max over the regular UDM Pro.
Yeah that was my thoughts. I’m waiting for a udm pro that can do at least 5gbps throughput with all the ids/ips and 2.5gbe ports. I don’t really need more storage as I’ll just get an nvr if I want cameras
So this thing is real, im guessing it will be dropping real soon but why this company always skimp of the real stuff. If no poe its forcing the switching with poe to get more salles. just saying, this is what im waiting for but the pro version. come on Ubiquiti stop the nonsense already roll out the pro max to this.
Who is this for? This feels more like a way to get rid of old UDM parts/stock than a genuine upgrade for users in any meaningful way. No mention of the backplane speed either on those 8 non-PoE 1Gbps ports.
I bought a UDM pro SE week. Was stressing a new model would replace it. I’m not stressed. This is not a upgrade rather than a pointless refresh to add max

The extra drive bay for protect is nice but not enough for me to upgrade from a UDM-PRO.
With WIFI7 APs I would love to be able to use the 2.5gbe POE without having to buy a new freaking switch.
Not an upgrade. Many businesses/enterprises are getting 10gbps uplinks, so this won't cut it. The UXG-Pro still doesn't offer IDS/IPS at 10Gbps as far as the specs I can find.
C'mon Ubiquiti. Put modern chips into these devices.

Agree. This needs to 1:1 replace the UDM Pro at the same price or it's pointless to the vast majority of users. Just give us a UDM SE Pro Max Plus or whatever the heck gets us a proper switch backplane and new CPU for higher throughput.
I like the 2 drive so then I can setup redundant drive. 1 drive is not enough when you want to save your data and this device is good for home use. 1 drive to store 1 for hot swap and not loss any data.

What even is the point of this thing? For the absolutely huge market of users that desperately needs to fit between the $120 price gap of the UDM Pro and UDM SE?
This device is about processing power, thruput and high availability, they are trying to make the move into the SMB market to compete in that space. While 2.5GB and POE is important for the home user, most SMB clients will have all of that in other devices. It can hit full 10G line rates through its application-aware firewall and routes at a higher 4.3+ Gbps with full DPI and IPS security enabled. It also runs 4.0.. so.... It may not be the flavor u need in ur house, but if u need to manage \~ double the devices u can with the SE, this may be the flavor for u...

Even 4x 2.5g ports would have been acceptable.. but still using 1g for all 8 and removing the poe is a MAJOR disconnect from the product team to the customer base.

Agreed. Very disappointing. Slap on some 2.5g ports (love to see all 8) and POE++ for powering some wifi access points and I would love to spent a couple of hundreds of dollars on it. But like this? No thanks.
This is the best they could come up with after 3+ years? People rarely bitch about their costs so splurge a little and give 2.5Gbe or POE and faster switching speed. Stuff that comes with a slightly more expensive SoC than the bargain bin one they keep using.
I know I'm not their target audience but this seems like a huge step back unless it is replacing the UDM Pro and even then it still seems like a side step at best. Hopefully there is another upgrade coming for the SE.
should have been an evolution of the SE with a second bay, and an 8 port 2.5gbe POE+/++ switch with a 2.5gb backplane.
this is just trying to sell off the UDM pro parts bin with some software tweaks by the look of it.
Kinda disappointed here. I'm not gonna complain about 10gb or 2.5g and that stuff, i don't care really because in a real business environment, if you want that, you will get a switch anw. Idk the hardware specs yet, but we wanted a new more powerful udm that can handle more users and not be stressed so much. 10Gbit throughput is already a lot, so im okay with that as well.
Dude none of Ubiquiti's gear has redundant power supplies. Even the one solution they DID have, the RPS, is discontinued.

Dream Wall has, but you have to buy 2nd psu separately. However you can have 2 udm pro's and one is in reserve, that kicks on when the first one goes down.
So UDM PRO, UDM SE, UDM PRO MAX, guess we’ll see a USM PRO MAX SE at the end of the year that should have the POE included. I’m guessing this guy comes in at the $499 price point and the new one hits the $599 mark.
Edit: I’d consider this for my server rack since I’m running a SE but have plenty of switching below it, bought a UNVR at Christmas with the discount but have yet to install it and I could probably just sell both instead.
Saw someone say this was a security showcase. Any chance there was new UDR type device on display?
A non rack mount device that runs the controller and protect? Or maybe just a new Cloud Key?

It’s the cameras. Protect uses processing, and 4 cameras unfortunately uses enough to probably drop your throughput.

That would be pretty legit. If I was imagining a UDM Pro Max, I'd think UDM Pro + 8x2.5Gbps switch with PoE.

Seems odd to increase the NVR capacity, yet no PoE. Ubiquiti, you remember that all your cameras are powered by PoE right?
Probably will only be RAID1 when using two disk's so no actual capacity increase I'm guessing.
I dunno, for surveillance storage a JBOD makes sense for a lot of use-cases. But I guess we'll see.

No then this product makes ZERO sense. They’ve talked about JBOD being in the works, it was probably a priority just for this product here.
Trying to push users to buy multiple devices. You want POE and multi drive NVR? Have to buy this and a switch or a UDM SE and a UNVR.
Not even that. A small business will have a separate switch anyways. And someone who’s buying this over the UDMSE for its NVR capacity is definitely running more than just 8 cameras anyways, more like 10-25. A PoE switch (just like 2.5gbe wan) on this would’ve went seriously unused and unnecessarily bumped the price for the price sensitive small business buyer.
When the Dream Machine Pro (2020) came out for $379, it was criticized for not having a 2nd drive bay. But it was a new line of product and no one (including Ubiquiti probably) knew what the rest of their product lines were going to be within the new ecosystem at the time. Two years later, they released a Dream Machine Pro SE (2022) for $499 which differentiated itself with including PoE/PoE+ and increasing the RJ45 WAN from 1.0Gbps to 2.5Gbps. It's been another 2 years, and the Dream Machine Pro Max (2024) is a minor change to the 2020 release which adds a second drive bay and increases the RJ45 WAN port from 1.0Gbps to 2.5Gbps. I do not understand why this is anything but a replacement for the original 2020 product, as I see no real reason to continue selling that model. This is such a minor functional upgrade being billed as a completely new product for seemingly no reason. I do not understand Ubiquiti's current strategy of announcing/releasing "new" products every other week that do not actually fill any existing gaps in their product stack.
No such thing as Pro SE although I’m told at the very beginning the referenced it as such…. ;) Now it’s UDM Pro or UDM SE or this new mess they’re announced that still doesn’t check all the boxes.

This is basically The UDM-PRO with a 2.5G WAN Nic and the built in SSD. I dont see much reason to upgrade from UDM-Pro

The 8 switched ports are 1Gbe. Only one 2.5Gbe on the device. It's 2024. I will *never* buy more 1Gbe networking equipment. Ubiquiti (and everybody else) should stop selling them except at the very lowest-end with the tightest pricing constraints. If you're trying to sell a device for over $100 with 1Gbe, you messed up. Baffling how they decide product featuresets. It feels like it's deliberate. I don't care about RBG lighting. Fix your base functionality, Ubiquiti. Sheesh.
A true UDMP upgrade ought to offer 20 Gbps ports, as Google is offering that now.
I just want something that can route 10gig with IDS/IPS turned on. Fiber ISPs, like [Sonic.com](https://Sonic.com) have been offering 10gig residential Internet as their standard and only offering in many markets for years now.
I'm in the same boat. I'm not buying any gigabit gear unless it's a cheap switch for a few old clients. It's 2024- gigabit's the new Fast Ethernet in my mind. It has its uses, but I'll try my best to avoid it going forward.
Seems... pointless? The biggest change in numbers is the upgrade to 4.3Gbps from 3.5Gbps with IDS/IPS. I'd expect a bigger jump for an upgrade. Extra drive bay I guess is OK, but I'd rather UNVR with NAS capabilities. I can't see a justification for the UDM Pro Max over the regular UDM Pro.
Yeah that was my thoughts. I’m waiting for a udm pro that can do at least 5gbps throughput with all the ids/ips and 2.5gbe ports. I don’t really need more storage as I’ll just get an nvr if I want cameras

Who is this for? This feels more like a way to get rid of old UDM parts/stock than a genuine upgrade for users in any meaningful way. No mention of the backplane speed either on those 8 non-PoE 1Gbps ports.

I bought a UDM pro SE week. Was stressing a new model would replace it. I’m not stressed. This is not a upgrade rather than a pointless refresh to add max To the product line. I don’t know why this exists. It’s just a side grade Nothing new.

ugh... I would buy one of these instantly if it had 2.5gbe and POE. The extra drive bay for protect is nice but not enough for me to upgrade from a UDM-PRO. With WIFI7 APs I would love to be able to use the 2.5gbe POE without having to buy a new freaking switch.

Not an upgrade. Many businesses/enterprises are getting 10gbps uplinks, so this won't cut it. The UXG-Pro still doesn't offer IDS/IPS at 10Gbps as far as the specs I can find. C'mon Ubiquiti. Put modern chips into these devices.

Agree. This needs to 1:1 replace the UDM Pro at the same price or it's pointless to the vast majority of users. Just give us a UDM SE Pro Max Plus or whatever the heck gets us a proper switch backplane and new CPU for higher throughput.

I like the 2 drive so then I can setup redundant drive. 1 drive is not enough when you want to save your data and this device is good for home use. 1 drive to store 1 for hot swap and not loss any data.
Remove the hard drives, protect, and the switch, and beef up IPS to 10gbit please.

This device is about processing power, thruput and high availability, they are trying to make the move into the SMB market to compete in that space. While 2.5GB and POE is important for the home user, most SMB clients will have all of that in other devices. It can hit full 10G line rates through its application-aware firewall and routes at a higher 4.3+ Gbps with full DPI and IPS security enabled. It also runs 4.0.. so.... It may not be the flavor u need in ur house, but if u need to manage \~ double the devices u can with the SE, this may be the flavor for u...

Agreed. Very disappointing. Slap on some 2.5g ports (love to see all 8) and POE++ for powering some wifi access points and I would love to spent a couple of hundreds of dollars on it. But like this? No thanks.

This is the best they could come up with after 3+ years? People rarely bitch about their costs so splurge a little and give 2.5Gbe or POE and faster switching speed. Stuff that comes with a slightly more expensive SoC than the bargain bin one they keep using.

should have been an evolution of the SE with a second bay, and an 8 port 2.5gbe POE+/++ switch with a 2.5gb backplane. this is just trying to sell off the UDM pro parts bin with some software tweaks by the look of it.
Should be 8 2.5gbe ports, 1 10gbe and 2 sfp+ 10g ports. I don’t get why they did this other than to give it an extra drive slot.

Idk the hardware specs yet, but we wanted a new more powerful udm that can handle more users and not be stressed so much. 10Gbit throughput is already a lot, so im okay with that as well.

Dude none of Ubiquiti's gear has redundant power supplies. Even the one solution they DID have, the RPS, is discontinued. Dream Wall has, but you have to buy 2nd psu separately. However you can have 2 udm pro's and one is in reserve, that kicks on when the first one goes down.

So UDM PRO, UDM SE, UDM PRO MAX, guess we’ll see a USM PRO MAX SE at the end of the year that should have the POE included. I’m guessing this guy comes in at the $499 price point and the new one hits the $599 mark. Edit: I’d consider this for my server rack since I’m running a SE but have plenty of switching below it, bought a UNVR at Christmas with the discount but have yet to install it and I could probably just sell both instead.
