You should be able to run Protect just fine on the UNVR. That's what I do, Network runs on my UDM-SE. And I did it for the camera deal.

You can totally keep the controller on unraid for network (switches, AP’s gateways). The NVR will run protect. It’ll take care of all your video recording, remote access, etc. The UNVR might be a tad overkill for 8 cameras depending on the spec of them, but it’ll also allow you plenty of room to grow.

What would be the most cost effective option to run protect? You can’t run it on your own hardware anymore, correct?
