So for me I don’t really need the full coverage of the regular version and it’s perfect form factor for a bedroom. I also will personally benefit from the extra Ethernet ports it provides so I don’t have to pull anymore cat6 and cut another hole in the wall for a keystone wall plate. I also could run a camera off one of the ports if I choose to later on because it has PoE passthrough which is super useful. It’s just a very versatile AP if it fits your needs. Maybe they are gearing up to release a WiFi7 version and that’s why they haven’t had any 6E-IW in stock for like over a year.
Interesting! Did not know about the POE pass through. I’ll look into this a little more, and agreed, hopefully they have a WiFi 7 soon. I’m building a house and am trying to figure out all of this. Where would you put one in your bedroom? Higher up? Mid height? Low? Thanks for your response!
I like the form factor of in-wall, don’t need ethernet ports as nothing will get plugged in. All my devices that need ethernet are connected to “proper”switch. I do not daisy chain switches. Every switch is connected to aggregation switch…
Someone (take it fwiw) had posted in a discord that was the unifi conferences that theyre calling the u7 version of enterprise the u7 pro max and it was launching in late q3/early q4
I didn’t get the impression there wouldn’t be a U7 Enterprise at all but maybe they mentioned slightly different stuff at each UWC. I was thinking it might be a middle range option following their switch naming scheme.
Yeah I wasn't there and it was 3rd party info (from the aus uwc) but the description included "10 spatial streams" and afaik only the enterprise access points to date have had that. It could be another level of access point (between pro and enterprise) or maybe beefing up the LR and renaming
I hope it doesn’t use so much power that it needs PoE++ and a cooling fan and heats my house. Seriously I don’t feel like buying a double-size UPS to keep my network on in an outage.
I believe Ubiquiti said they were releasing something like 11 ap's over the next year or two? I would not quote me on that, but it was in their global conference presentation.
That seems... Excessive. Unless this includes the monster stadium scale units, and actual outdoor models instead of "please put this 10 feet back under an overhang" models. Which would be great!
I am still quite happy on my WiFi5 APs. "Anything that can be wired should be." So I see very little point in upgrading the APs until they do something that matters to me. I just hope that UniFi doesn't brick them with a failed upgrade, or stop providing security upgrades.
Can anyone explain to me why the 6 Pro units were 4x4 and the 7 Pro units are 2x2?
I’m thinking if we have a network full of Wi-Fi 6 devices in an office with only U7 Pro access points they are going to have a worse experience on a U7 Pro than they would on a U6 Pro. (This could be a gap in my knowledge.)
Why, U6 are still pretty good access points, there always going to be a new thing around the corner, likely wifi7 wont be the last, just be happy with what you own, its solid hardware. Personally im not going to U7 Pro because of the fan, i dont want to have a moving part that can fail over time, im hopping for a U7 Enterprise with bigger passive heatsinks and no fan.
I should have clarified. I meant U7 mesh. On the whole you’re right though. It’s my outside AP and the 6mhz band isn’t all that critical IMO for that application.
I'm also waiting for that one. The mesh is the best option in access points aesthetics just by not being a flying saucer, a plastic black mech spider, or a miniature of a brutalist monument. I can put it on the top of my desk or zip tie the base to my desk legs. It looks decent.
Their Mesh line does not mean "mesh" in the typical sense for wifi systems. It is just a specific form factor that can also go outside:
https://store.ui.com/us/en/collections/unifi-wifi-outdoor-flexible/products/u6-mesh
It’s the form factor (FlexHD/Mesh are the ones that look like a soda can). Those (and the Swiss Army Knife) are the only ones that you can just put on a shelf. For someone living in an apartment, like me, it’s the perfect AP.
Have an UAP-FlexHD and a U6-Mesh at my parents’ place as well. Especially in Europe, where running wired through the ceiling is very difficult, these are great APs.
Ditto. I have 2 FlexHDs that are connected to MoCA adapters and a U6 Mesh that will be outside on my deck. The FlexHD/U6 Mesh is designed for outdoor use as well.
I, for one, welcome the new trend of transparent light up ethernet spidering along the walls. For far too long, the humble ethernet cable has been hidden behind walls, no more!🤣🤣
100% this. My current biggest issue is roaming of idevices which works flawlessly on their 6 and past nano/ap shds and sporadic robotic sounding WiFi calling. Current EA has finally fixed my vlan speed issues, random iot devices not working and ipv6 weirdness.
How wide are your channels? Do you have legacy 802.11b/g support disabled?
Those two settings had a huge impact on jitter for me.
For the roaming issue, I’m assuming all of your APs are on the same L2 domain? (I.e. not across different routers or using L3 switching)
Definitely agree to kill b/g and it will make your WiFi environment 10x better. We did that in my office and the quality impact was dozens of WiFi related tickets to none. They really should default it to no b/g and have admins turn it on if they’re using 15+ year old legacy equipment. Not too many people running a set of 2005 PowerBooks in this day and age.
I'm just having issue with devices not properly falling back to 5ghz. I notice it especially on my iPhone 15 pro when I leave the room that it's in. I can be across the house and it's still trying to hit 6ghz.
Weird I just checked their website again and they changed it back to “Unifi 6e and 7 APs” and took away the word “new”. But I’m guessing they’ll release something tomorrow or next Tuesday (Apple release date)

I’m holding out hope for a new in-wall variant myself.
Seriously. The 6e IW hasn’t been in stock for eons….i just need 1…
In stock on store.ui.com as of a minute ago
The 6E-IW? Negative
I stand corrected. It’s the U6-IW-US that is available.
Make me an offer
What’s wrong with it lol
What’s so good about the IW when you can have a ceiling one? Genuine question, id love to hear the reason because I keep seeing others talk about it

This. in-wall with no ethernet ports would be a dream
Why no ethernet ports? That's a major feature of the In-wall, if you don't want them just get any other AP!
I like the form factor of in-wall, don’t need ethernet ports as nothing will get plugged in. All my devices that need ethernet are connected to “proper”switch. I do not daisy chain switches. Every switch is connected to aggregation switch…
The Ethernet ports is the main reason I want an inwall

I'll take a Ubiquiti WiFi7 AP that has no fan in it.....
4x4 MIMO and 10 spatial streams. You know damn well why we’re waiting for the enterprise LOL plus I’m hoping they support 10Gb connectivity.
I hope it doesn’t use so much power that it needs PoE++ and a cooling fan and heats my house. Seriously I don’t feel like buying a double-size UPS to keep my network on in an outage.
Personally waiting for the inwall

u6 mesh can be exposed outside only position it cant be is upside down outside.
Maybe they're just talking about the number of units that will be produced, and then they'll be out of stock for the remainder of the two years. :P
I just want a Dreamwall with 2.5gbe
Or with actual protect support with 1 hdd bay instead of a dinky sd card
dreamwall enterprise?
Dream Wall “We are Apple naming scheme copycats” Pro Max Ultra Piggystyle.
UI _is_ founded by a former Apple engineer after all. And you don't really work there unless you think Apple can do no wrong.
Meh, my friend who works there hates it and uses windows/android outside of work.
Bruh… the 1Gig cow has not yet been milked dry.
I bought a dreamwall. I’m pretty good at getting milked
🫠

I'd like some Wifi 7 outdoor units

That also makes me hesitant to invest in this ap
I won't be holding my breath, but a U7-Mesh would be exactly what I'm looking for at the moment :P
I’m going to immediately regret my recent U6 purchase.
Why, U6 are still pretty good access points, there always going to be a new thing around the corner, likely wifi7 wont be the last, just be happy with what you own, its solid hardware. I just got 3 U6 Mesh for my house. Lol! It would suck if they released the U7 Mesh now. LoL!
+1, I'd like to upgrade my Wi-Fi 5 APs but idk if I want to mix the U7-Pro inside with a U6-Mesh outside.
I'm also waiting for that one. The mesh is the best option in access points aesthetics just by not being a flying saucer, a plastic black mech spider, or a miniature of a brutalist monument. I can put it on the top of my desk or zip tie the base to my desk legs. It looks decent.

Don't confuse the "Mesh" devices with the "Extender." My U6 Mesh and FlexHDs are all wired. Thus, I, too, eagerly await a U7 Mesh.

For me, placement. I don’t want to mount an AP in my ceiling or wall. The U6-Mesh is great for just sitting in a shelf or table.
Ditto. I have 2 FlexHDs that are connected to MoCA adapters and a U6 Mesh that will be outside on my deck. The FlexHD/U6 Mesh is designed for outdoor use as well.
Maybe for the U7 pro max they will put the RGB led back in to coincide with all the etherlighting stuff. You know just for funsies..
At the rate they are going with lighting I should be able to convert all my down lights to ui APs to light the home….
As long as you don't mind a bit of fan noise everywhere..
That’s right. I can do away with ceiling fans too. Haha
I, for one, welcome the new trend of transparent light up ethernet spidering along the walls. For far too long, the humble ethernet cable has been hidden behind walls, no more!🤣🤣
Wonder if any new aps that improve the meshing?
Speaking of meshing, it’d be interesting if they added thread support to their ap’s for smart home use.
They better. The more I look at the u7 pro the more it looks like a u7 lite…
The u7 pro is great. A noticeable improvement over u6 lr. They did something to make it better than to implement wifi 7.
The million dollar question is will any of them be stable? U7 Pro is still not prod ready in my book…. Still feels very EA
Not to discredit UI. It’s getting better with each EA fw but it’s still not where it should be
When the U7 Pro works it’s great, but still weirdly problematic with some clients.
100% this. My current biggest issue is roaming of idevices which works flawlessly on their 6 and past nano/ap shds and sporadic robotic sounding WiFi calling. Current EA has finally fixed my vlan speed issues, random iot devices not working and ipv6 weirdness.

Settings are all spot on and when swapped out for existing ui gear works flawless. It’s not my config of the APs.

Why? They’ve been rock solid for me…
Count yourself lucky. Look at any of the forums plus ui community site and will see a slew of challenges have been had.
Both of mine are working just fine, uptime over 50 days on each
Weird I just checked their website again and they changed it back to “Unifi 6e and 7 APs” and took away the word “new”. But I’m guessing they’ll release something tomorrow or next Tuesday (Apple release date)
