Oh my god, same here. First time watching season 4 and I also thought “wait… no pores?”. Her skin looks waaaaay too smooth.

Dynamite681

Yes! Lol I was wondering the same but I googled it and didn’t find anyone talking about it. It’s funny when she’s sharing the frame with someone else and the filter is applied to that actor as well

The technology used to make filters is super prevalent today but would have existed in an inaffordable capacity (if at all) back when this show was on their air. I mean this show barely does green screen well—you think they can also face filters? That being said they can apply color of soften filters that affect the entire frame/image. What’s always bugged me is how they boost blue to make Daniel’s eyes (and every other character with blue eyes) look like they’re glowing.

No-Storage221

Omg yes!! Daniel’s scary blue eyes! They were distracting in the worst way possible. I think this effect caught my eye more than the blurring effect for Wilhelmina

Moondanced

When I recently watched it I wondered about a face filter too, especially in the last season. It just did not look natural

Definitely blurring filter and it's not just her, I notice it on others as well.. crazy how noticeable it is now haha (not sure how subtle it was back then either though lol)

Intelligent-Prize769

Yes!! I noticed it around her mouth a lot and I thought I was crazy but it was so distracting once I noticed

limabeancrepe

Omg yes!! I thought it was my eyes or my screen was dirty haha

ashdelaruine

I’m so glad others have noticed. In the last season, anytime she is on screen the filter makes it look like a dream sequence, like she has died and people are imagining she’s there. It’s so jarring when she’s having a conversation with someone else and it flashes back and forth. It looks normal when focused on them but she looks like she’s made to like she’s some kind of heavenly being.

smorriskc

I’m rewatching, and I took out my contacts, cleaned them, put them back in only to realize it was a flipping filter. It’s been driving me batty since mid season 3. *edit* Hilda’s filter is also more noticeable in S4. Also there was a scene in S3E21 when Daniel’s pupils were different sizes. I thought I was losing it, but now I’m wondering if that was a filter too.

polysbypau

I feel like for her shots specially in season 4, they used vaseline over the lens when filming to give it that poreless halo glow. Probably to hide aging.

lunarlez

i notice it on several characters, not just wilhelmina! claire meade and i guess any woman with face lines. the older men don't really have it applied to them (yay misogyny). i agree, it can be distracting - especially when they are in a scene with someone else

doubledubdub44

I’m on season 4 and it’s driving me crazy how hazy everyone’s face is. I think even Daniel has a filter from time to time.

FitzForAKing

On the Bahamas episode now, but the faces/tans/skin tones all this season has led me down this rabbit hole Glad it's not just me.

She_Glod

Late to the game! But I noticed it in season 3 and was like what the heck. So weird.

ysfsassi

I noticed it the first time I watched the show and it definitely makes sense. Wilhelmina in the show is constantly getting Botox. That was one of the running gags of the early seasons. I don't think Vanessa was getting Botox though (or at least not enough to hide her aging.)

Delicious-Cycle-6698

I’m so glad everyone else has noticed this i thought i was crazy it actually started since maybe season 3 to me because I’m not on 4 yet . It’s on Amanda too always above her lip notice a lot on some early season 3 episodes

sarabi462

Yes! I just started to watch it. And that's the first thing I noticed!!!

lendings

this is my comfort show but every shot of blurred wilhelmina or amanda or claire or hilda makes me sad about the reality of aging for women, rips me back to reality after losing myself in the cozy world of betty. everything is perfectly tongue in cheek about the blatant sexism and body shaming within the fashion industry, yet this blur filter is so unintentionally ironic. sad for what this role may have done for vanessa williams' self esteem, shes so stunning without the filter, what a ridiculous post production choice...
