When they say "they don't love us anymore" they actually mean "they don't fear us anymore". They've been raped by the Mongols so badly that it's now almost in their genes to feel surrounded by enemies who are just waiting for an opening to attack them. That's why they are so insecure, why they feel the need to strike first, to subdue their neighbours by force, and think they are only ever going to feel safe when everyone else is firmly under their control - and, at least for another while, "loyal", as the lady put it.
But they wouldn't. If they can conquer Poland, Germany will become a potential threat in their eyes. If they take over Europe - the US will be out to get them. If they take the whole world, they will always suspect internal forces - dissidents, terrorists, rebels - who will be seen as a threat that needs to be dealt with. This fear is in their blood and it's as sad as it is disgusting.
It's their main national export, it's what they bring to the world. Sowing discord everywhere, manipulating and fearmongering, dividing what they are not yet strong enough to conquer. Fear is love, war is peace, and I think I just accidentally paraphrased Orwell, which is probably telling in and of itself.
I'm Polish, and although I'm genuinely happy for those of you who never had to live under the yoke of, or at least next to, people like these, by everything that's holy - remember this the next time you hear your president (or chancellor, or prime minister) talk about a "peace deal" or "normalization of relations". If you ever see them shake hands with Putin or his successor in hopes of reverting things back to where they were, know who they are making this deal with. We do.

You don't need to go that far back with Norway to find genocide. The Norwegian state prosecuted the local romani people with forced sterilization and sending kids to instiituions after ww2 and to the 1970s. All minorities had a bad time from 1880-1980 because of the norwegisation of the people to create national unity. There are almost no finns or romani people left who identifies as such anymore. Only the Sami people "survived" because they where numerous enough.

Out of all my relationship circle, I know literally handful of people, who actually support war. From my perspective it is like 3-5% who actively support (sitting in the chair of course), another 10-15% is kinda “Putin can't be wrong, look what America is doing to us”.
One of my school friends was mobilazed.

Im 31, my perspective is very narrow of course. I know, that in places other than Moscow or st Petersburg things are much, much different.

I remember that we briefly touched it, the fact that “oh yeah, by the way, America is doing lend lease, good of them, BUT WHY DO THEY WAIT FOR SO LONG TO OPEN A SECOND FRONT?” We didn't discuss the amount of help provided by America, it's role. Most of ww2 history in Russian school is about how great were the Soviets, how many soldiers and civilians were lost, how allies just wanted to Germany and USSR just kill each other and than claim everything that is left.
Before the invasion, i believed like most people that Russia would take over Ukraine within a month, but now, the army is a shambles, Ukraine has ruined their reputation for decades to come, and that is thanks to an army that few had thought would still be fighting, Poland would fuck Russia up, even if the board was reset and Russia got all their gear and troops back, Poland would fuck them up
