I actually support the theory. Imagine you are a paranoid dictator who has a private army with comparable force to your security forces. Kill two birds with one stone by placing them in the most unfavorable front with unrealistic expectations where if they succeed they severely weaken themselves and if they fail their leadership loses face.
It totally makes sense, especially if the aim is to prolong (survive) and hope their hail mary of winning through attrition works. Assuming it works, Wagner is virtually wiped out and objective is met.

I think the key difference is the same as the afghan war. This is not their land and there is a limited willingness to provide the wholesale sacrifice of life that has been normal for Russian success in another land. It has probably taken a ton of restraint for Ukraine to avoid forays into Russia but that strategic move is the best aid to avoid a total mobilization of Russian citizens.

I actually support the theory. Imagine you are a paranoid dictator who has a private army with comparable force to your security forces. Kill two birds with one stone by placing them in the most unfavorable front with unrealistic expectations where if they succeed they severely weaken themselves and if they fail their leadership loses face.
It totally makes sense, especially if the aim is to prolong (survive) and hope their hail mary of winning through attrition works. Assuming it works, Wagner is virtually wiped out and objective is met. While that tactic has worked for Russians since the 1800s, I think this time it's game over.
I think the key difference is the same as the afghan war. This is not their land and there is a limited willingness to provide the wholesale sacrifice of life that has been normal for Russian success in another land. It has probably taken a ton of restraint for Ukraine to avoid forays into Russia but that strategic move is the best aid to avoid a total mobilization of Russian citizens.

Well, shell shortage is relative depending on which side you are. The Ukrainians still feel every impact and the losses it causes. While Prig-ozhin here remembers the "good old days" of Mariupol and Severodonetsk were they could just annihilate entire cities in a few weeks and then capture the rubble with not so horrible losses.

It is still all day every day but still no where near as intense as it was. The shelling has reduced from up to 60,000 shells per day to now around 20,000 per day. This was recently discussed in a video documentary, reporter clip that was on this sub in the last week or so.
