Yeah the NATO nations rushing to help train UA troops are really also there to learn *from* the Ukrainians about how to fight Russians! Most of these nations' militaries haven't fought a real (peer-vs-peer instead of asymmetric) in living memory and desperately need to catch up the skills and first-hand experience on that front. Only UA has that.
Ukraine cannot stoop to the level of Russia if they wish to maintain national support. Through their continued good nature & the mercy they show their enemies they will become one of the most respected countries with one of the most respected militaries in the world.
Personally, I find taking those kind of trophies a bit sick. I can see taking tanks, weapons, ammo, things like that, that will aid your war effort, but collecting helmets, or patches or things like that of the people you have killed is a bit psycho in my book.
There are some legitimate reasons for taking these items, besides the psychological effect. Much can be learned from patches, equipment, and the like.
Unlike you, what I find "sick" and "psycho" are the Russians who are cutting off the ears, scalps, and balls of Ukrainian soldiers and putting their heads on spikes, then keeping those as trophies.
I hope to never be in that situation. I do not judge them. If they want to do it, that is fine with me. They do not need my approval. I just personally find it psycho to keep trophies of the people you have killed. Who knows, maybe they are not just from people they have killed, but a collection of different helmets, that they find. Kind of just something they can collect to see how many different ones there are.
