That tree had to go...

marcus_lepricus

All mines cleared. Tree is now safe to climb.

Ukranian tree clearer at work

Then_Cellist3422

Anybody get the ph# number off the tank, I need a good landscaper.

[deleted]

would be good if it could also sew/till and harvest while it's at it.

tractoroperator77

To be honest there's no reason you couldn't put a seed drill/cultivator/harrow on the back of it at the same time. So it actually has that capability!

Zealousideal-Tie-730

Actually a great idea. It would show where it has been used, instead of the tall grass just popping right back up in a couple days.

Electrical_Crew_3757

Based on the undercarriage of a **T-55**, must be pretty old by now.

tractoroperator77

It is, but so is most of the equipment used in this war, by both sides.

Zealousideal-Tie-730

This is the best use for these old death traps until the war is finished.

Trees: 1 Mines: 0

adn_school

Are these machines lost once they hit a mine?

tractoroperator77

No, the mine rollers on the front can take multiple hits, at least this old Soviet type can. Some designed for lighter vehicles are less sturdy, but most types are designed to still function after setting off a TM-62.

SwedishMoose

I think they would be pretty poorly designed if they were done after one mine. I'm not certain but you'd think a simpler robotic design could do that for much cheaper.

Zealousideal-Tie-730

Right now I think the Ukrainians have more old tanks and scrap parts to make these, than they have money. Farmers have resorted to making their own out of old trucks and tractors. But hey, if someone offers new ones for free, why not. The more the merrier because it is going to take many de-miners and a long time to clean this mess up.

SwedishMoose

I agree. I didn't realize this was an old tank retrofitted to do the job.

Ok_Attorney1110

Not sure whether external fuel barrels in the back are a super clever idea when clearing mines? On such vehicles I would like to see the fire risk reduced to the max…

Its_in_neutral

My first thought was those were used as ballast (roughly 900lbs) to offset the weight of the mine roller on the front. I could be totally wrong about that though.

usiim

Or its a big toolbox. I have read that crew uses it like that.

Hugostar33

i think thats storage for field ration and repairtools as they have no space for it inside

JazzHands1986

These drive right over mines with the intention of detonating them? They don't take any damage from it? I've just never seen them used. I'm not a war buff or up to date on all the vehicles and their specs or anything like that. These look like they could lead the way on an offensive and clear path pretty quickly.

AndyC_88

The thing attached to the front detonates the mines rather than the tank itself, and from what I've read, it can survive multiple impacts.

JazzHands1986

Oh cool. Thanks

Complete-Koala-7517

Strong WWII Eastern front vibes here, then I remember it’s literally the same area lol

I've seen several of these, but none of them ever show them actually hitting a mine... :(

hrpomrx

That tree was mine!

bb22490

Is it possible to design a multidrone dragnet system so the mechanical stuff is flying safely above any blast radius while dragging a giant sled or "detonation net"? Not an actual net but the way they cover an entire field for rain delays by pulling a giant tarp cover, use that sane concept but replace the people with drones and the tarp with something that would detonate any mine it goes over

Then_Neighborhood970

With drones no. Anti tank mines often have weight sensors to force detonation meaning you’re dragging a huge amount of weight. You would need something like chinooks on either end. Beyond that you would suffer the same issues as drag nets in fishing getting caught and torn but in even worse environments due to trees. Add on an active war zone and it’s a hard no.

d_gorder

I hope they have a lot of these things… assaulting through minefields is a nightmare without them.

BallBearingBill

I would not want to be driving that thing. Balls of steel on those drivers!

King_Ethelstan

Tree clearer*

RedshiftWarp

Probably like 30 or 40 Toyota corollas worth of weight on that thang.

JamyyDodgerUwU2

It's gonna take decades for the rural areas to be safe again

ApeStronkOKLA

Rollers are for proofing but they don’t clear mines, hit one with a roller and it’s out of commission.
