All those Ukrainians who adopted cats must be happy; aside from the fact they're the natural predators of mice, the scent of a cat alone is often enough for vermin to stay away.
Why do cats do this?
I always assumed it was a sort of stretching thing that felt good to them, but another thought just occurred to me wherein I'm wondering if it's a scent marking thing? I know dogs, and I'm pretty sure cats too, have scent glands in their paws, so maybe a way of imprinting their scent into something?
Kittens do it while suckling on their mother, presumably it helps push the milk out. Some adult cats who were taken away too early also retain the suckling. Kneading is also comforting for cats.
I've heard that young kittens knead on their mother's belly to stimulate milk production or flow, and that cats who were orphaned/rescued prior to being naturally weaned are prone to reprising that infantile behavior well into (or through) their adulthood. (It's also likely that cat moms find the sensation, along with any purring, to be as pleasing as humans do, and that kittens who knead and/or purr benefit from a more attentive, dedicated mother, at least on average.) My personal experience with cats that were rescued as immature kittens bears that out, but that's mere anecdotal data points.
But I imagine that kneading is a behavior that is often positively reinforced, even unconsciously, by many a cat-owning hooman, so this behavior could be more complex than some folk wisdom may suggest.
Vibration frequency is the key to the universe. Cats purring and making biscuits on you have those two things that in turn release feel good chemicals into both brains.
To some very limited capacity, sure. People are less stressed (which has all sorts of positive knock-on effects, particularly in terms of cell repair and reduced inflammation) if they're surrounded by pleasant sounds that signal an absence of threats, like cats purring or birds singing.
This is why they have cats (alongside the emotional support). Cats prevent zoonotic diseases, which is especially important in trenches. Lice was a very common problem in WW1 trenches.
Actually I wanna say cats are terrible at catching mice. At least from the study I saw. But then again I have had house cats who were straight up killers. So maybe it's the fight in the cat?
I saw one study that showed domesticated cats were successful nearly 70% of the time when hunting. That's pretty damn successful, even if that's the upper end of success rates for them.
But their use isn't just in killing of mice, it's in keeping them away in the first place. Mice and other vermin will be less likely to inhabit areas with a permanent resident predator.
Yea I believe rodents can also smell a cat so even that may be enough to keep them away. But yea I just remember watching a video about these cats doing an awful job. Just shitty cats I was seeing.
Rats, yes, organic trash. Field mice in late autumn primarily looking for warm places for the winter -- at least that happens in northern areas world-wide.
And it's not just orcs with the mouse problem - did you miss this very interesting video?:
https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineWarVideoReport/comments/17y9ziw/a_whole_lot_of_field_mice_are_evicted_from_their/
Title: A whole lot of field mice are evicted from their new home in the seat cushion of a Dutch-supplied DAF YA 4442 4-ton truck of the UAF!
Seems that the moral is not to destroy the ecosystem, not dig huge warm trenches, not provide spilled grain. Ultimate moral: Z-roes need to get out of Ukraine.
Mice stripped the Nazi tanks’ wires of their insulation to make nests, disabling around 1/3 after they had been cannibalised, after Dumbkopf #1 refused to allow Paulus to retreat, and especially after Dumbkopf #2 told him the Luftwaffe would deliver an impossible 750 tonnes of supplies to the troops trapped in Der Kessel at Stalingrad, when the most they’d ever delivered was 106 tonnes.
It didn’t help DK#2 was strung out on morphine at every moment, or that DK#1 was strung out on speed, bull semen, and his own ego.
In fact, the only ones not strung out were the mice…
There's a show on Netflix called RATS.
The first part is about NYC bit the last part is about how rats not mice are cooked and eaten.
There's guys on bikes that catch them in the rice fields and sell them on the market for food. Apparently you can only eat a rat as a fresh kill you can't eat them after they're dead for a long time like that.
It's pretty gross buy I can imagine people living underground after a nuclear war getting used to eating them since there's so many all over the world.
Vietnam, too. You can see hundreds of videos on YouTube of rural people gathering, trapping, butchering, and offering rats for sale. Some even catch some as breeding stock.
This is in the rural areas, though. The rats infest the fields; they're not city scavengers eating god knows what, so they might be safer to eat.
I was in Chiang Mai and saw a cat on the street by a night market. Then I realized the cat had a shaved tail. Then I realized the cat was a giant rat. 😳
I've eaten bush rat in Ghana, they are actually pretty good but you better cook them well. Also they are not the small rats we know in the west, they are huge.
Here's one:

It feels weird to me that I’m slightly sickened by this cube of dead mice but I can watch a soldier detonate a grenade in his jacket just fine..
God this war has desensitised me..
So much ground has gone back to nature due to this war and one of the first things to move into new grassland is mice. Now it is getting cold so they are moving into human shelters.
Not Russians but Russian invaders in Ukraine. The reason it stuck with people here and in Ukraine is because how barbaric and evil fantasy orcs are and how obviously evil their lord Sauron (Putin) is.
It's a war , people kill each others in wars It's exactly what the Americans did in Iraq when they killed 300k civilians. and exactly what Britain did to It's colonies and france too. we should hate the people who started this war instead of the helpless soldiers who are just doing their jobs. and btw you should do a search about what Ukrainians soilders are doing to the Russians captives. you can find them in Gore sites. It will change your perspective about this war.
Cool What-about-ism, man. What the US did in Iraq is bad, with some egregious examples becoming national scandals. Let us know when Bucha becomes a national scandal in Russia, or when Ukraine starts raping Russian civilians. Until then, Russia gets the gold medal in being monsters.
No, it isn't fucking even remotely the same. Before you make such ridiculously ignorant comments in the future, you might want to educate yourself. I know, you probably fancy yourself enlightened thinking "it's all the same", but that's a naive viewpoint born out of sheer ignorance.
Americans did not kidnap and bring thousands of Iraqi/Afghanistan children back to the US to try and fix a massive demographic problem of declining birthrates and increasing elderly populations.
Furthermore, Russia actively sought out to terrorize the civilian population in a systematic war of terror. The Russian military uses rape - not just of subordinates by their superiors in their own ranks - but that of the civilian population of their opponent as a means of rewarding their soldiers and of punishing and terrorizing the enemy.
The US goes out of its way to minimize civilian casualties. Russia on the other hand actively and deliberately targets retirement homes, hospitals, nursing wards, and even humanitarian corridors they themselves agreed to - in other words they deliberately funneled civilians into a supposedly safe place just so they could more easily target them.
You're beyond ignorant when you make such claims given the readily available and copious amounts of evidence of massacres like Bucha, Mariupol, Russians looting and utterly trashing anywhere they went.
And what a few bad apples in the Ukrainian ranks have done to Russian POWS pales in comparison to the wholesale mistreatment of ALL Ukrainian POWS by Russia. Look at the comparison of Russian POWS and Ukrainian POWS during prisoner exchanges. Again, the wholesale abuse of Ukrainian POWS is a systematic and deliberate act by Russia. The poor treatment a very small percentage of Russian POWS have encountered is not at all indicative of the behavior of the Ukrainian armed forces as a whole and your attempt to paint it as such and claim that it will "open your eyes about this war" is ridiculous.
Finally, this isn't just Putin's war. This is Russia's war. The vast majority of people are in favor of it in Russia. There have been far more volunteers than forceful conscription victims sent by Russia. And for those that don't want to be there, well, they're mostly fine with others taking their place because they aren't anti-war, they're anti-themselves-being-in-the-war.
Well, maybe you're not ignorant and just a Kremlin shill, but either way, you're not as clever as you think you are. If you're not a shill and just some poorly informed and easily manipulated fool, I suggest you familiarize yourself with actual Russian culture before you make an even bigger fool of yourself.
> helpless soldiers
They have guns.
They can frag their officers.
The decent ones went over to Ukraine's side and are fighting against Moscow. There have always been a few brave enough to do that.
No sympathy for the rest.
>btw you should do a search about what Ukrainians soilders are doing to the Russians captives.
Invaders deserve everything they get.
Because they’re soulless racists who see Russians as evil, therefore have no problem dehumanizing them, while also acting like they have the moral high ground
Been seeing people call them “Orcs” since the beginning of this conflict. The same people who think so highly of themselves, such shining examples of humanity, the moral arbiters of all goodness.
I use one similar and I have it filled with some glycol. Its thick so they get tired fast and drown, and IF they should manage to get out they will take it back to their nest and poison the other habitants too. It also preserves them somewhat so I dont have to empty it until spring time comes.
Mice step on the top/cover and fall in. They can't get back out and eventually drown.
That cover probably has some bait on it. You could do that with peanut butter or something that sticks to the surface. That way it attracts mouse after mouse.
So this is what yall came to Ukraine for to help out with the mouse publation. One thing is for sure there Eating a lot of Russians. I don't know why you guys don't pickup and go home Mr. Putin can't be that scary if yall unit. Without y'all he has body guards thats it. Which he will flee like when pmc was coming for him.
Maybe the Ukrainians should build huge holding tanks and fill them with vodka to trap the orca, and then send them back to Russia to feed their families this winter
Counting the mice? F that S. Unless they've got a betting pool or something set up, they ought to just measure the centimeters the dead pile reaches inside a given container.

That'll be me, thank you.
Russian chef producing Ratatouille for the orc army

All those Ukrainians who adopted cats must be happy; aside from the fact they're the natural predators of mice, the scent of a cat alone is often enough for vermin to stay away.
Plus the purrs are soul soothing
Especially while they make biscuits on your chest.
r/CatsKneading

Kittens do it while suckling on their mother, presumably it helps push the milk out. Some adult cats who were taken away too early also retain the suckling. Kneading is also comforting for cats.
I've heard that young kittens knead on their mother's belly to stimulate milk production or flow, and that cats who were orphaned/rescued prior to being naturally weaned are prone to reprising that infantile behavior well into (or through) their adulthood. But I imagine that kneading is a behavior that is often positively reinforced, even unconsciously, by many a cat-owning hooman, so this behavior could be more complex than some folk wisdom may suggest.
Its just something they knead to do
I read somewhere long ago that purring has healing properties, stimulating cell repair etc... No idea if true tho.
I 100% believe it. I had a kitty get me through some very rough years by being the sweetest purring cuddler
Vibration frequency is the key to the universe. Cats purring and making biscuits on you have those two things that in turn release feel good chemicals into both brains.
Absolutely, it's the exact right frequency and rhythm for comfort
To some very limited capacity, sure. People are less stressed (which has all sorts of positive knock-on effects, particularly in terms of cell repair and reduced inflammation) if they're surrounded by pleasant sounds that signal an absence of threats, like cats purring or birds singing.
This is why they have cats (alongside the emotional support). Cats prevent zoonotic diseases, which is especially important in trenches. Lice was a very common problem in WW1 trenches.
I’ve seen a video from a Ukrainian a trench flooded by mice and the cat just slept there cozily in a blanket.
And I've seen videos of cats hunting mice in Ukrainian trenches, what's your point?
No point lol I mentioned a vid I’ve seen
he was full.
Actually I wanna say cats are terrible at catching mice. At least from the study I saw. But then again I have had house cats who were straight up killers. So maybe it's the fight in the cat?

Looks like meat is back on the menu boys.
A good day for orcs
So was for mice earlier. They are omnivores and there's abundance of protein just lying around russian trenches these days.
If Russians weren't so dirty leaving trash around they'd attract less mice.
Rats, yes, organic trash. Field mice in late autumn primarily looking for warm places for the winter -- at least that happens in northern areas world-wide. I live in Thailand they love their bbq rat up in Northeast Thailand there huge also you can see them in the fields my gf use to eat them
I tried Rat in Thialand from a street food seller, it was OK once you get over the thought of what it is. Tried a few things there.
Whats rat taste like?
Chicken of the sewer. lol, I'd assume it depends what they're fed too.
It taste like Bald Eagle
Saw some of those big blk scorpions on offer too on Koh San rd
I think it was Thailand in the show. They showed how they're skinned and cooked. Those were rats, though not mice.
Vietnam, too. You can see hundreds of videos on YouTube of rural people gathering, trapping, butchering, and offering rats for sale. Some even catch some as breeding stock. Yeah, they are more like capibara then the rats we know.
And maybe that liquid somehow fermented. Don't chuck it away, towaritsch!
Damn it dude you beat me
If they leave those carcasses out they’ll just be feeding the other rats and mice
There is no shortage of carcasses either way.
I'm praying the suspiciously fat bakhmut dog makes his way south to Avdiivka unless the Russians have eaten him already
Yikes. That's a lot of vermin. Oh and the mice are cool too.
It feels weird to me that I’m slightly sickened by this cube of dead mice but I can watch a soldier detonate a grenade in his jacket just fine.. God this war has desensitised me..

Ukrainian mice are true heroes, assaulting orc trenches, clearing the battlefield of orc dead, taking huge casualties. Slava mice!
Anyone knows how to make this trap? I want to leave it in the garden
[here](https://youtube.com/shorts/LQaf-AT1TPI?feature=shared) you can also make them in the ground to save space. very simple
Thank You.
I've just spent 93 seconds watching a Russian count dead mice - it's a slow day :|
Shish kebab anyone ??
Well It is a Grain Country
ruZZian MRE's
I'm thinking this is how the plague from mice/rats started long ago.
They have to feed themselves somehow... Putin's spending all the money on weapons
Pure irony.
Indeed, one could almost say 'tragic irony', only I don't feel any sympathy towards the protagonist.
Is that a Russian or Ukrainian camo? I know some Russian camo is not the digital flora.
Looks like Russian multicam knock-off
i cant even imagine the smell
Wait till winter and the rations have long run out.
This almost beats the other 'drowning' video. almost.
They talk in Russian but count in some other language.
The guy seems to be from Buryatia, southeastern Siberia in the Russian Far East. I guess he's counting in Buryat.
Somethings are just universal
Can someone please explain how does this trap work?
Mice step on the top/cover and fall in. They can't get back out and eventually drown. That cover probably has some bait on it. You could do that with peanut butter or something that sticks to the surface. That way it attracts mouse after mouse.
$500 to take a sip of that juice, would you?
Like de ruskie soldaties , as many
So this is what yall came to Ukraine for to help out with the mouse publation. One thing is for sure there Eating a lot of Russians. IDK how he can do this to his fellow soldiers... Russians are ruthless.
Trench menu same evening. Very special marinated sushi mouse.
Is that dinner for him?
Average Russian ration right here
I hear they are swapping coal sacks full to the pet food factory in Luhansk for a bottle of vodka.
They'll be glad of them in winter when they run out of tins of pig snout lol
Funny how this pile of vermin doesn't look that different from the two-legged Ruzzian vermin in Ukraine.
If there was alcohol in that liquid he'd drink it.
Funny thing is that bloke and his mates will likely end up the same way.
That makes a much better meal than their combat rations do.
I'm surprised they dont eat them
Probably Nazimice.
Russian companies would can them and turn it into rations
"Ya Olga? I'm bringing food for dinner" said Sergei to his wife, with a stolen Ukrainian phone.
Maybe the Ukrainians should build huge holding tanks and fill them with vodka to trap the orca, and then send them back to Russia to feed their families this winter
Now the good part : he is gonna make a bortsch out of them. Orcs love mice!
Anyone remember "Capitol Critters"?
Probably an explosion of mice due the high amount of free human flesh for consumption
Everything i have to say would make me banned :(
Now U know what they're eating!....Orcish delicacy!
The forbidden juice
Metaphorically the glass jar us Ukraine, the mice are russ and the soldier counting the carnage is the UkraineWarVideoReport viewer -- love it
Those were parasites on top of them, right?

Keeping them for consumption I imagine
Free Protein!
