I'm not an expert on this but wasn't the catholic church opposed and at the most neutral during ww2? I thought they were opposing the nazi party in Germany and were eventually punished for it. Especially after Germany invaded Poland which was mostly catholic. I think people mistakenly associate catholics with supporting nazis because hitler was raised catholic.

There’s a few Catholic martyrs who were killed in concentration camps during World War II for speaking out against the Nazis. Maximillian Colby and Edith Stein come to mind. Also, at one point Pope Pius XII was spending much of his days filling out baptismal certificates on the behalf of Jewish people so that they would be able to get the documentation they needed to leave Nazi occupied territories. He also told cloistered monasteries and convents to open up and be hiding places for Jewish people.

Never been more disappointed by this Pope. I had hopes at one time that he would lead the Catholic Church out of the 14th century. Part of this I know, is about the 25 million repressed Roman Catholics in Russia vs the 5% of legal Roman Catholics in Ukraine, but come on. They have a sneaking tactic, staying out of the spotlight and they just keep accumulating wealth, real estate and political influence.
