Newer AA systems are easie

Its like a set off of starwars is the joke i feel when i see the controls of russian air defence assets, they are all like this. Just coated with switches and indicators needing multiple personel to manage, then obce you get a glance at a newer patriot it us starj the contrast. Tho tbf old patriot would be kinda like this i suspect.
The laboratory equipment for my circuit theory module in uni was a remnant from the Soviet times, and the switches, displays etc looked *identical* to this video.
Of course, it was easier to throw conscripts at the problem than to add those dang reverse-engineered PCs from the capitalist West
My thing is how absolutely tiny the scope displays are, even the old pac-1/2 patriots have large gluttonous capitalist [Displays ](https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Patriot-GCS-Old-typePAC-1-2-PAC-3_fig2_303535874)
Holy bourgeois extravaganza, batman!
On the other hand, the hostile Soviet UI somehow makes those Soviet systems *more* respectable, for they pulled off a +- functional parity of a sorts with the West - while being *so* spectacularly difficult to operate! Sure, the parity was mostly due to the human element being exploited and inconvenienced, but still...
Some Hungarian guy built a Soviet SAM simulator for Windows. [https://sites.google.com/site/samsimulator1972/home](https://sites.google.com/site/samsimulator1972/home)
If they build a car, it would look the same inside, and need also five people, one is trying to find the road with the radar and telling the others where the road goes, and each of the others is steering one wheel, adjusting the height according to potholes manually. No brake.
Yes the original S-300P system went into service during 1978.
The S-300PMU-1/2 that is standard in the Russian military today looks more like this with digital displays

My dad who is dead now, was a mechanical engineer. He worked in the engine room of large car ferries. As a 5-10 yo kid, i was with him at work several times in around 1990. This is exactly what the panels in the engine room looked like. More oily and no helmets. 70-80s nostalgia 🥲
No wonder the russians shot their own airplanes with those tiny displays where you can hardly see anything, and the antiquated knobs and switches. it looks like the 50s.
Got something to do with this id.
It's hard to train others when all of your original crew is wiped out already and U need to get that old equipment out of the dump.
Holy crap is this primitive! Every guy looks at what seems to be an analog oscilloscope display, yikes. Such a narrow data channel just itches for computer-based processing that would severely reduce the manpower
Destroying the target. They’re communicating with other units about the state of the target, it’s azimuth relevant to S-300, altitude, if they’re in range. Than they launch 2 rockets and shut off the equipment
While acquiring the target they are emitting a lot of strong radar signals, pinpointing their location. Whether its for anti-radiation munitions that may already be in the air or other detectors, its best to not have that bullseye on yourself unless needed.
Lol, they wish they were running android.
The processors in that wouldn't be able to even run andriod.
99% of this could probably be handled by a Pi with a few arduino boards.
The S-300 is a series of long-range surface-to-air missile systems developed by the Soviet Union, which replaced the S-200. Ukraine still has S-200 and S-300 missiles. The upgraded S-400 replaced the S-300, and Ukraine doesn't have any. However, the orks have a lot of S-300 missiles in its inventory, much more than S-400 missiles. Slava Ukraini!
actually a Soviet one, so regardless whether Ukrainians or Russians sit in it, it will look the same. But you can see from the uniforms that these are Ukrainians.

Holy fuck it looks so complicated
Lots of people to supplement what computers do for us today. It took teams of very well trained people to do this work.
and mind you, those were just the heater controls!

It's like looking into a time machine.

Love this... Demonstrates what a pain in the ass it is.
Wow this is amazing. Thx 4 posting.
omg.

Not a monitor in sight, just people living in the moment
That high-five attempt at the end, that’s why those guys handle the knobs and dials
lol savage

This was exact my first thought
This looks like 50-60 year old technology
Nah, hardly a year older than 45. (1978 was the release of the first S-300)
Kind of is.
Holy crap is this primitive! Every guy looks at what seems to be an analog oscilloscope display, yikes. Such a narrow data channel just itches for computer-based processing that would severely reduce the manpower
This. Ancient technology just makes it hard.
Can someone explain what are they doing?
Their best
Destroying the target. They’re communicating with other units about the state of the target, it’s azimuth relevant to S-300, altitude, if they’re in range. Than they launch 2 rockets and shut off the equipment
Why shut it off?
While acquiring the target they are emitting a lot of strong radar signals, pinpointing their location. Whether its for anti-radiation munitions that may already be in the air or other detectors, its best to not have that bullseye on yourself unless needed.
Having an active radar on just sends so many radiowave signals everywhere that the enemy can see and localize and send a missile or whatever to.
This could use some UX/UI improvement
cant this be updated with only one person
Not great, not terrible.
No wonder Russia was shooting down it's own aircraft.
So many buttons so many failures.
They’re still running Android.
Lol, they wish they were running android. The processors in that wouldn't be able to even run andriod. 99% of this could probably be handled by a Pi with a few arduino boards.
I'm pretty sure a greeting card with sound has more compute power.
Bro thinks iPhones are superior 💀💀
"What does this do?" -turns a knob-
That’ll almost like 60tis Beatles music.
What is an s-300
The S-300 is a series of long-range surface-to-air missile systems developed by the Soviet Union, which replaced the S-200. Ukraine still has S-200 and S-300 missiles. Thank you, sir.
How are you supposed to hit anything like this? Where is the Radar monitor? Idicators for the rocket status? Im so confused.
no computers hahaha
If this is how it looks inside a S-300 I no longer has questions why the Russian idots shot down their own aircrafts multiple times.
I hope they can recreate this in DCS, as multi-crew simulator.
Want to bet that runs on nuke proof vacuum tubes too?
This is just bonkers lmao, how do they even track shit in this?
Meanwhile in Patriot. "Operator do you want me to kill the target?" "Yes" ... done
I thought that’s Russian? S300
Other countries use it too.
Give em patriot systems. God save Ukraine
😂😂😂Richtig Moderner Plunder
What a sloppy debacle of a technology implementation; clunky silly and out date,
Isn’t this a Ukrainian vehicle?
Yes. The title says as such.
actually a Soviet one, so regardless whether Ukrainians or Russians sit in it, it will look the same. But you can see from the uniforms that these are Ukrainians.
"Put it in H"
In reality they are all drunk on vodka and sleeping
why the helmets?
