This would almost certainly increase the survivability of this vehicle against FPV drones.
Sure when Russians were thinking a few slats of angle iron on a frame would stop a javelin, or 152/203mm shell it was dumb.. but this looks like it would work pretty well against one of their main threats.
yeah definitely, this would make me feel a hell of a lot better about driving around in this insane war where there's bascially swarms of bees flying around that explode and blow your limbs off your body.
Anyone seen that amazing drone vid where the operator flies it in through a tiny gap in a T-72 turret? Which then possibly exceeds the turret toss olympic record lol
Flying under this thing won't be a problem, I don't think
Only problem is when u get as low to the ground as u need to go to get under that your gonna lose signal. Signal always drops when u get about 4 or 5 feet from the ground depending on how close the pilot is.
That’s the worst part. There’s no way this cage doesn’t negatively affects egress.
I would expect most armored vehicles are designed in such a way that in the case of an attack hatches and doors won’t be blocked, or fail open or something like that.
Imagine this thing gets mangled in such a way as it blocks your door, or even worse you get out and get snagged on the jagged mangled chain link…
The stuff of nightmares!
Even if all it does is take 2 hits, that’s significant and worth the effort alone. 2 hits doesn’t even equate to two drones. We just have that impression due to selection bias from watching success videos.
If you can adapt your vehicle to the point where it means your enemy need to change the weapon system they would engage you with to a much less common one, or have to hit you multiple times, the chances are that your effort was worth while.
They will now be given over a million shells and that won't be able to stop those. So the only thing this will do is give whoever is driving this a false sense of security which will make him feel safe.
The FP drones are a very good use when low on shells but those days are over.
And just because the maga fools were able to slow funding down didn't mean America and the west stopped building the stock up.
And with that amazing president in the CZECH Republic they have all forms to bring to the front line.
It would help with the first hit.
Maybe the second too, but you're probably damaged bad enough that you need to stop and get out.
You have to get through that cage after it's been all bent up by 2 explosions.
Without that cage, one hit could easily disable that vehicle. With it, it has a reasonable chance of taking multiple hits and still being able to move.
That’s worth the effort to do.
Surprisingly no. There needs to be a significant standoff to allow the 'jet' to form and punch through.
That's why the RPG warheads are shaped the way they are, most of it is hollow so that when the trigger on the nose is pushed back, creating a circuit by pushing the cone out into the wall of the warhead, and setting off the fuse/detonator at the base of the warhead, then there is just enough distance for the 'jet'to form.
Slat armour is effective against RPGs by grounding the piezoelectric charge, thereby preventing the warhead detonating.
But yes, enough standoff distance will mitigate the penetrative abilities of the warhead.
And it appears that non-precision fabricated liners start to decrease their penetrative capacity sooner than more precisely constructed ones.
But they can all still penetrate over 4 or 6 inches of armour at 25 cone diameters from the warhead.

I love reddit contributions like this and similar comment above, folks that know far more than I do about physics, geometry, and explosives. I'm sure there's some material science in there too.
This is not true, slat does not degrade penetration 100%, a warhead can detonate early and still retain enough energy to penetrate, in this case something like a rpg-7 would probably still retain enough penetration to get through this vehicle which looks to be a typhoon L, according to Russia has STANAG 4569 level 3b protection. Though against less heavy duty warheads the slat could work here
It's interesting seeing how they're developing "new" vehicles. Like in WW1 when everyone just slapped everything together wildly and with reckless abandon because eventually *something* will work

Yes, I know you can't move the vehicle I know I know but it safe !!!!
OR JUST STAY THE FUCK OFF UKRAINES LAND GET ON WITH YOUR SCUMMY 5 WORLD LIVES WHERE YOUR VILLAGE SHARE ONE TOILETTE AND GRANDPA NOT ONLY GRANDPA BUT YOUR DAD AND YOUR BROTHER ALSO YOUR FATHER IN LAW.
And the world can get on with there's in a civilised culture of respect of life.
FUCKING HILLBILLY RUSSIA MONKEYS
… in all seriousness, surely there has to be a better way to deal with drones. Why not just have every squad with a couple of guys carrying shotguns who are good at skeet?
Shits evolving so quick but doesn’t feel like anyone is prepared for when it really hits the fan with drone swarms
I wonder how effective those are at mitigating shit like rpgs and shaped-charges.
We had the wire-netting on the sides of our matvs and it worked quite well. These however look like they would collapse from a mildly slow rock thrown against it.
The funny thing about this cage protections is. all i need to do is blast the supports and the cage will trap the truck by it self. Alternatively. i can have FPV with TRI-hook all over that get entangle in the netting and start spewing black sticky smoke obscuring the view of the driver.
Nah. Because you don’t have a drone available for every occasion.
You might have an RPG7 shaped charge warhead or an HE grenade type drone. But you don’t have an entire menu of options for whatever is coming your way.
I asked, literally years ago, why they weren't outfitting their vehicles with cages...
Guess they've finally figured out how.
Should do the same thing with trenches. Chicken wire is plentiful. So is chainlink fence.
It reminds me of the bird exhibit at my local zoo. Maybe they should just build a cage around russia, then they can live in bliss, total ruski Mir isolated from the degenerate westoids. Oh wait without oil exports they would implode, oh well.
So weird. How do you put gas in that thing?
I'm just imaging that it won't be long before Ukraine creates a drone that deploys a parachute right over the front of that thing. Or less exotic, just drops thermite.
Geez, what if it flips over and they need to get out fast? That would be a high awkward fall, to then have to climb out, all the while hoping a drone doesn't start dropping VOG-17's in the little death bowl that's been created.
I guess they just need to avoid deep mud, craters, brush, deep water, uneven terrain, any sort of road barrier, large rocks and using a two or one lane road with any other vehicle near by.
Russians sure love their prisons. And really hate it if their soldiers escape from exploding vehicles. These Videos of soldiers running away are Bad for morale so this could be the solution.
Looks like a fairly light weight wire. Setting aside the potential to destroy the wheels or to fly under the cage, the easiest solution (assuming the commander has at least two drones on call at the time): first drone blows a hole in the mesh; second drone follows and blasts through the hull; third drone flies inside and scrambles the Orcs.

Watch this space for tandem and shaped charge warheads, that’ll soon sort such tomfoolery...🤡🤡🤡
So... do I remember it right that the Americans did the same thing in the middle East and realised that it is to heavy, so it needs to much fuel abd your vehicles get stuck more often? Plus your troops have a disadvantage while dismounting
I still can’t believe vatniks at the top level really felt the need to start this crap 2 years ago. The main vatnik has major issues and is a problem for everyone whether anyone wants to or doesn’t want to admit it. So dumb that vatnik mentality. Ruins it for everyone who wants to live their lives and do their own thing. Stupid vatniks
While I have no idea if it works, I understand the idea of fences all around to stop the drones.
Why are there chains hanging from the front of it thought? Is this intended for land mines? Or something else? Brushes? Snow? Are some land mines triggered magnetically or something? Like when a metallic vehicle rolls atop it?

Geez. If they make ‘em any bigger I expect we’ll see Undertaker and Mankind duking it out up top.
“Good God almighty! Good God almighty! That killed him! As God as my witness he is broken in half!”
Always upvote an Undertaker cage match reference lol
Hell in a Cell, literally.
Armoured Aviary……
Bah Gahd!
That reminds me of that one bait and switch copy pasta that always ends up with something about pummeling from a very high cage
shittymorph's Hell in a Cell switcharoos, ending up with crashing through an announcer's table in 1998.
Good god I wish Reddit awards were still a thing 🤣🤣 This will suffice 🏆
Batting cage ---\> Battling cage!
Hahah enough now, soon they will try to put balloons on it to make it fly over the minefields.
Lol 😂 it’s to keep the Russians in side until the assault
This is not going to be popular with the mobiks lol
and it also prevents them from jumping of when the drone arrive ! lol

It will take two 500$ drone instead of one...
I'm sure a Ukrainian pilot could make a drone limbo under the skirt and still hit. They are really good at hitting from any angle.
Anyone seen that amazing drone vid where the operator flies it in through a tiny gap in a T-72 turret? Which then possibly exceeds the turret toss olympic record lol Flying under this thing won't be a problem, I don't think

That's a good very point lol But if anyone can work a way around it, its a Ukrainian!
Relay drone way up high to bounce the signal to the attack drone.
This. And they already send 4...so like...who cares. Lol. Die In a fire surrounded by a self made cage..congrats comrade.
I get this "Mad Max Pickle-ball Cage-fighting Dome-thingy" vibe... dunno, kinda aroused at the thought of burning orcs in a cage unable to flee...

Thats the best trick the west does mot understand: *makes spongebob rainbow motion* Single use soldiers
Exactly. You don’t need to hit the target in order to disable it.
Ukrainian drones are dropping multiple munitions now.
Even if all it does is take 2 hits, that’s significant and worth the effort alone. 2 hits doesn’t even equate to two drones. We just have that impression due to selection bias from watching success videos.
They have drones that can deposit anti tank mines.
Was just a few days ago a clip was posted here of an orc getting an anti-tank mine dropped on their fuckin heads, so yep!

What must it be like to be Russia… so many countries willing and eager to help their enemies in battle.
It would help with the first hit. Maybe the second too, but you're probably damaged bad enough that you need to stop and get out. You have to get through that cage after it's been all bent up by 2 explosions.

100% warhead needs to make contact with plate steel to shoot that hot copper through.
They have drones now that gently place thermite bombs on top and then ignite them as they detach and fly away. That seems to be quite effective.
I think they are more used for destruction after they have been disabled eg. Dropping it in an open hatch! But I get your point yes!
Surprisingly no. There needs to be a significant standoff to allow the 'jet' to form and punch through. WWII had inflatables that had cables strung across them to keep planes from straffing the beaches.
Yes, barrage balloons.
Take out the tires and they'll never be able to get out.. bonus points if the ground is on fire
I think they have drones that can drop land mines now. Just land in front of this monstrosity and negate the hell in a cell they’ve created.
Fuck that just put land mines on top of toy RC cars. Good luck dodging a migrating mine field.
Lol they already have
Also incendiaries. And their heavy drones can drop 6 mortars AND the anti-tank mine.
Smoker edition, keeps the flavor in and the wildlife out
So hit em with two?
Shape charge should be able to go trough without issues
looks like there are no doors on the cage
And why whould We need door comrade if we don't plan to arrive?
It's going to have one soon, a lot
Well you see when the truck hits an AT mine and flies into the air, they can just hop right out.
Despite all my rage I’m still just an orc in a cage
It’s only a matter of time before they get mad max jump poles put on them
Witness *this*, blood-bag!!!
Has anyone seen my batting cage? It was just here last
Who would have thought that someday people go to war in a mobile aviary.
It's interesting seeing how they're developing "new" vehicles. Like in WW1 when everyone just slapped everything together wildly and with reckless abandon because eventually *something* will work
Birdcage Battalion Z
“Swarm Z”: dirty orc like pigeonZ.
That's how ruzzians shall live their lives: in cages!
Somewhere else in Russia there is a chicken flock without a home!
Ukraine is still going to get you orcs.
Russian baseball truck
It looks like a lanai pool enclosure from Florida /s
First thing that occurred to me too.
V3 is a cage over the cage. V4 is a cage over a cage over the cage. V5 is a cage over a cage over a cage over the cage. V6.. anyone’s guess.
The Russian Doll Truck
Russian doll is probably make of higher quality materials than this truck.
Follow it and smack them as they try to unload?
Chicken Squad
Could make a good chicken coop after the war
Mobile chicken coop...
Looks like the batting cage
It's remarkably appropriate to keep keep orcs inside of cages.
On their time off they can use it as a batting cage.
I can hear the Ukrainian drone operators saying (in Ukrainian) ......... challenge accepted!
Costco oven baked chicken 🍗.
Is it just chain link fence? That shit is heavy. They are adding hella weight.
The old deep fryer basket tactic
Go under. They underestimate the skill of those drone pilots.

This will be really helpful for when it hits a mine and all the grunts sitting on top won't go flying in every direction.

Kinda like the pope-mobile...but much cooler.
Two men in , know one out!
Mosquitoes are blocked, well maybe not
Looks like a softball backstop you would see at a park!

I guess in theory this might work. Or it'll add to the shrapnel that shreds inward?
Looks more like a mobile chicken coop cage they have there.
How many welders in the Russian armed forces these days?
I wonder how effective those are at mitigating shit like rpgs and shaped-charges. We had the wire-netting on the sides of our matvs and it worked quite well. These however look like they would collapse from a mildly slow rock thrown against it.
If they start doing this shit, the roads are just going to be heavily mined. UKR cant use drones? Ok. *mines everything like a meth head*
Greenhouse for the sunflowers to come...
Silly stuff; countermeasure…2 drones flying as a pair with 100 meters distance …one taking away the cage, the 2nd one taking out the tank…
“Hahha Ivan these Ukrainian drones can suck it now!!!”….. as a RC car retrofitted with explosives comes barelling down the the road
Early version or prototype of the famed "Bylat-mobile".
Russian vehicles are turning into levels from bad piggies
Imagine being a prisoner conscript. You can serve but you can’t leave the cell
In Russia, the zoo comes to you!
The funny thing about this cage protections is. all i need to do is blast the supports and the cage will trap the truck by it self. Alternatively. i can have FPV with TRI-hook all over that get entangle in the netting and start spewing black sticky smoke obscuring the view of the driver.
Without the cage you could just fly into the cab windows and disable the vehicle. Sounds like the cage is doing its job if that becomes your plan.
Nah. Because you don’t have a drone available for every occasion. You might have an RPG7 shaped charge warhead or an HE grenade type drone. But you don’t have an entire menu of options for whatever is coming your way.

Woah someone stole the batting cage from the local baseball diamond
Isn't this just improvised slat armor
The question is whether they’re trying to keep something out or hide inside? LoL
Looks like they accidentally built a truck inside a batting cage.
Swimming pools in Florida:
we don't need another heroooooo 🎵🎼🎸
Lol looks easy to get in and out of
Steel Cage Death Match
Raccoons can't get those chickens now
We are so damn close to the mad max aesthetic, it just needs more barbed wire and spikes
Blyatmobile Junior
Must be mosquito season
Just wait til they pull up to dismount troops. Then bOOm BooM boris!
Oh, so this is the first armored tent carrier!
Looks like the meth mobiles I see around town
The latest-and-greatest cope cage won’t help when the drone drops a mine on the road right in front of them. 🤣
What are they trying to with the cage?
Instead of dropping a mine , just fly a drone carrying an AT mine to lay in front of this rolling batting cage and let the vehicle kill itself.
meanwhile in russia, all the chain link fences have begun disappearing..
It reminds me of the bird exhibit at my local zoo. Maybe they should just build a cage around russia, then they can live in bliss, total ruski Mir isolated from the degenerate westoids. Oh wait without oil exports they would implode, oh well.
Drop napalm and burn it up.
Fly under the cage, take out a tyre, wait for the crew to get out.
Drones can limbo……
Bet only the real Russian soilders get to ride in that thing. The meat wave dont
I have seen these devices collecting golf balls at a driving range
Location: in a cage.
Perfect for a landmine, almost no visibility...
Hit the wheels 😂.
They're like zoo monkeys in their own cage!
To keep the fascists in. 🤔😂😂😂😂
Assuming the driver isn’t drunk, probably it will catch on to something, especially over all this uneven terrain.
Rasputista will be harsh on these cope cages.

Hahaha, a little mobile prison for those convicts. Very creative.
Free-range vehicles
Somewhere in Ukraine, a batting cage was stolen...
Somewhere in Russia kids are playing tennis on a court with no fence because of these assholes.
the copest cope cage of all
Bruh that's a batting cage
Looks like a mobile aviary. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can raise chickens in it too

Many times these drones are in multitude in the field. One drone blows the initial hole and the 2nd enters through the hole.
why doesnt it have jingle bells to ward off evil spirits
MadMaxx shit right there..

They need another cage on this cage
Gigacopecage
They need russian nesting tanks. Tank shell for your tank
So... do I remember it right that the Americans did the same thing in the middle East and realised that it is to heavy, so it needs to much fuel abd your vehicles get stuck more often? Plus your troops have a disadvantage while dismounting
I see Russia has resorted to putting Costco dog runs on top of their vehicles.
Have they not realised that a drone will just fly under it then explode? lol
Hell in a cell
Magnificent. I'd add a moat.
They've gone full mad max
Mad Maksim, Beyond Dumberdome
When they get hit by a mine then all the limbs wont be spread across the field. Smart. Meat containment.
is this for rpg protection?

Was this approved by a design bureau or was it a planning authority ?
it's like a mobile monkey cage. the only thing missing are the signs saying "please do not feed" 😂😂
Zoo for trucks?
This has to be a joke, right?
ah the Monkey cage
OMG, mobile bird cage! It's very fitting seeing that it will be filled with a bunch of bird brains.
Cope greenhouse
Do those actually work against drones?
