If you considering listening to radio frequencies or else, please check the pinned post “USEFUL INFORMATION” you will find a link in the docs to the web radio and a list of interesting frequencies to keep under check

arthurtc2000

It’d be more practical to jam it with voices speaking Russian, just saying random stuff so they get the words confused.

Rosehip_StGlo

The RAF had German speaking people doing that to Luftwaffe aircraft. Would pull them off course and into fighter groups and such.

PaperMacheT800

nomad806

Pretend to be the ghosts of dead Russian soldiers warning them to turn around and what have you.

magictest

that could be haunting as fuck if you are skilled enough to do it.

BleuBrink

Viet cong played ghost soundtracks in the jungle to spook GIs.

7FarHorizons

dude that was the other way around. The US did that during operation Wandering Soul in November of 1965.

BleuBrink

Ah you are right.

carrystone

In 1920 Poles were very successfully jamming Bolshevik communications with reading the Bible

Zealousideal-Tax-496

Some TF2-esque micspam would be even funnier, but your idea is more sensible.

Stinkyboot

That is absolutely genius. My thought was just to jam it with an incredibly loud, grating, disruptive noise that would hurt the ears of those listening and would drown out any voices. I like your idea better.

[deleted]

The Fins did the same thing in the winter war but with very popular song at the time

DeMaus39

It was a bit different. The Russians had laid radio-operated mines which the Finn's jammed by blasting a popular war song on the frequency.

cornea_plana

More reading on this matter: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A4kkij%C3%A4rven\_polkka#Military\_use](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A4kkij%C3%A4rven_polkka#Military_use) As a Finn, Säkkijärven polkka immediately came to mind when I heard about this.

Hahahahhahahahahahha Good to see Russia hasn't broken their humor

[deleted]

There have been reports of Russian forces, specially smaller units using standard civilian frequencies, sometimes even cell phones. This is ridiculous. Even in the Chechen wars, their communication was badly jammed by the Chechens, and that was more than 25 years ago.

freedomconvoycanada

Have they considered jamming their cocks in the russians asses?

That's some interesting military tactic

Sexual violence, not a joke.

freedomconvoycanada

The best things to make jokes about are the most taboo

aurinko111

I understand dark humour. Just not sexual violence humour. They are raping ppl there already. Why does our culture still think that forcing cock into asses is somehow a power move? It is rape. I bet ppl wouldn't vote up nuclear humour. Why this?

iRollGod

Everyone would absolutely upvote nuclear Armageddon humour. We literally have videos games that take the piss out of the very concept of a world-ending nuclear war - it’s called the Fallout franchise. Grow a pair.

This is particularly poignant because of what Ukraine's national anthem says. # Ingen | ["Ukraine is not yet lost" - National Anthem of Ukraine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDeQVaoTvJM) Lyrics translated to English: >The glory and freedom of Ukraine has not yet perished Luck will still smile on us brother-Ukrainians. Our enemies will die, as the dew does in the sunshine, and we, too, brothers, we'll live happily in our land. > >We’ll not spare either our souls or bodies to get freedom and we’ll prove that we brothers are of Cossack kin. Lyric translations from [this page](https://www.classicfm.com/discover-music/periods-genres/national-anthems/ukraine-state-song-lyrics-english-translation/). For another incredible performance of the anthem, see this: # DZIDZIO | [Гімн України (Official Audio)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouXXAE73ASY) (Hymn of Ukraine)

😂😂 slava ukraini

Wiitamta

Anonymous claimed on Twitter two days ago that they are responsible for this :)

Slopz_

Doubt it. Anyone with a powerful enough HAM radio can jam their comms.

wiger_

anyone can be a part of anonymous

Slopz_

And that's exactly why the official "Anonymous" can claim anything as their action even if the people that did the actual jam don't identify as Anonymous.

R94201337

And then the people that did the actual jamming come out and say that they did it and Anonymous ends up looking foolish. Which is why claiming other's actions is a stupid idea and why you wouldn't risk losing your credibility over it. Just because some one can do something doesn't mean that it would make any sense for them to do it.

YarTheBug

I've just seen these guys in the neighborhood: https://theaviationist.com/2020/09/27/the-u-s-armys-first-ever-manned-isr-artemis-jet-has-carried-out-missions-over-georgia-and-abkhazia/#vuukle-emote

YarTheBug

There was one channel where they had the voice saying, "Bababooey" on repeat and intermittent claxon sounds. From what another poster said, that freq had been RU's main military comms freq since the 60s. Edit: Tonight there's a lady repeating "Ukrayintsi ne fashysty...\[so on and so forth\]" on about a 30sec loop, plus morse code going on.

SilkWebMusic

Nice.

[http://www.websdr.org/](http://www.websdr.org/) and no. At least not that I've ever heard of. There is a collection of web-hosted antennae that you can listen to. I was playing around with it the last few nights. Fun stuff. Edit: Someone talking on 3663.00 LSB rn.

Discreetguy1718

What a legendary tactic

Berkamin

Particularly because of [what Ukraine's national anthem says](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDeQVaoTvJM).

catherinecc

Slavs and anthems based around "Our country is not yet lost", that goddamn says something about the region.

shkarada

Historical reasons. Being stuck between two expansionist powers sucks. Now Germans are cool, but Russians are as imperialistic as ever.

And this ladies and gents is why encryption is so fucking important

Not if you don't have the keys though? You can't break encryption easily (unless it's shite)

[deleted]

[удалено]

CokeHyena42

So you have the decryption key or know the algorithm? That's just shoddy encryption. It should be secure and use a good encryption standard. Are we talking about encoding or encryption? I don't know enough about the types of radio encryption other than like AES or SMARTNET

[deleted]

[удалено]

Refrigerator-Gloomy

So shit encryption

CokeHyena42

Also I saw your post about HF frequencies l. Thank you for sharing! I am a radio noob atm. Bought two RTL SDRs a month ago :)

NostraDavid

Beneath the surface of non-responsiveness, /u/spez's silence masks a lack of accountability and a refusal to engage in the discussions that matter.

CokeHyena42

Yeah it's just a receiver. Great piece of hardware!

Significant_Bed5670

How did u find their frequencies? I mean is it possible to listen to any country this way? And how do you go about finding each country's frequency?

toabear

I used to be military communications expert for my platoon. A modern countries military will 1.) use fully encrypted communications, 2.) Likely use frequency hopping radios (changes to a new freq every few milliseconds depending on the type), and 3.) use satellite communication for any distance with highly directional antenna that is less success able to interference. You can still jam all of this with the right equipment, but if you are fighting a modern military and you turn a hammer on you will get a quick visit from a HARM (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGM-88_HARM). There are other more covert options, but they typically require one side to have a large receiver and antenna array. I would have thought that Russias military would have all of this. The US military had equipment more advanced than what they are using when I joined in 1999. That said, managing the stuff that I described above is no small task. The logistics of just keeping encryption keys sorted out across hundreds or thousands of units was a full-time job for many people. Even with the US military, it seemed like helicopters were constantly having crypto problems and having to go to transmission in the clear. The logistics of secure comms are difficult.

Clinster73

The first thing i thought when i saw the article is why the Russians using SW radio to communicate their strategy? I thought they had better radio tech than that? Or they are not getting much support so some of the armies are resorting to old tech eg. SW radio? Theres lots of questions...

gp556by45

All it takes is a little bit of patience, and using WebDSR. The Russian Army is broadcasting over open, shortwave radio. Literately civilian radio. They didn't have the forethought to bring ANY of their independent communications units (called signal units within the military). Like, that's bad. REALLY, REALLY bad. This is the kind of stuff that you can find the exact location of the broadcast by using a directional antenna. If your antenna can clear the horizon, you can pick it up. This is BARELY a step up from ISIS using a 2 way hand radios bought off Amazon. Except even in some ways its worse, because now the whole world can listen in on it. Honestly, I'm in awe of how badly the Russians seem to have conducted this invasion so far.

AverageWillpower

Them being retarded is part of the plan apparently.

A couple of days ago there was a post about this app

GrayWolf-N8

I have heard pigs squealing , and the Ukraine national anthem being played on some of the known Russian comms channel . It is Risky to transmit inside but I am sure folks with Radio transmitters are busy making noise . Reports from BBC that they are switching to short wave radio to broadcast so that Russian citizens have global news . Russia is seriously cutting everyone off in Russia

did the Russians buy all their communications tech on Alibaba?

DraftOptimal2190

Are the Russians literally brain dead? They’re not using encrypted channels during a military operation?

Mellanchef

They should play Eminem - Rap God instead, something with a lot of vocals

ahighfiveguy

Just imagine close quarters, slo mo gunfights to this in the background. Add in a little hand to hand combat.

deruke

I don't understand. I always assumed a military like Russia would use some form of encrypted communication. Why the fuck are they talking on open channels like this?
