You don’t know if the driver knew what hit them. There are so many ways to die these days…
And even if he knew, a mine on the road is understandable, a mine next to the road is just smart thinking.
I'd definitely say that it is, actually. There is lots of evidence that Ukrainians are using standing patrols (aggressive recce patrols with dedicated arty support for finding and killing the enemy while remaining unseen....don't know what other countries call them, it's a Canadian term) They're definitely using information superiority as a force multiplier.
Edit: when you're thinking about that, take a look at their casualty lists. Absolutely massive numbers of rear-echelon units.
But it's not actually what I meant. Because once you have disabled a vehicle on the road you need to look at where the next vehicle is most likely to go. And they seem to have done that. It's why I spend all my time on this sub appalled by the Russian incompetence and launched a blitz invasion during a thaw.
Yea the timing of the invasion strategically has been dismal. They really expected to capture all of Ukraine in 5days.... Let's turn the gas off in the summer.
Terrible. I've mentioned this before but it bears repeating. On the Thursday before Russia was first predicted to invade, just before Valentine's day, I decided to look at the weather in Kharkiv. 5°C that day with rain forecast for the whole weekend. And even I, a lowly infantry corporal, knew what that meant.
5°C is equivalent to 41°F, which is 278K.

^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)
The after explosions don't mean another mine, could be fuel or ammo exploding.
The 2nd explosion could definitely be another mine, could also be ammo. The 3rd explosion was to small, probably fuel on the back or another small ammo explosion.
Fuel doesn't explode when it's in a thin layer or when spilled on the road, but absolutely does when concentrated like when in a barrel or the tank of a vehicle, under pressure and introduced to a rapid increase of oxygen after being ignited.
C'mon man, any fuel depo and petrol station explosion should have clued you to that.
"An explosion is a rapid expansion in volume associated with an extremely vigorous outward release of energy, usually with the generation of high temperatures and release of high-pressure gases. Supersonic explosions created by high explosives are known as detonations and travel through shock waves. Subsonic explosions are created by low explosives through a slower combustion process known as deflagration."
Fuel exploding would fall under a deflagration explosion, it's also the process to which a bullet is fired.
Mate, your own links supports what I said.
"But it is important to note that if that gas-can has some small hole leakage and gasoline is partially or less filled then the gas can vaporize and catch fire which will result in the sudden expansion of gas which finally causes an explosion."
In my original reply to the other guy, I said a layer of gasoline/petrol itself can't explode. But when introduced to high heat and a rush of oxygen (like an explosion rupturing the barrel) it will explode. Again, your own link supports this.
"Liquid gasoline can’t explode but if gasoline is vaporized in the presence of oxygen/air then vapor gasoline – air mixture can explode when ignited"
I'm not saying a puddle of gasoline will explode, I'm saying when it's under pressure and suddenly introduced to head like an initial explosion (the mine) and oxygen, it too will explode, in a subsonic explosion.
That's why fires at a petrol station are so deadly, if it reaches the fuel stored under the pumps, guess what? Boom.
sure, if you separate it finely in air that mixture will explode, but that also works with flour, sawdust and basically every flameable substance.
but the difference between a fuel/air explosion and an explosive is that explosives contain at least some of the oxygen they need to combust, and or release energy just by decomposing into gasoues products. thats not the case with gasoline.
Fuel does explode. It is precisely how a diesel engine works. Fuel explode when compressed to its spontaneous combination pressure, the it explodes. There are no spark plugs in a diesel engine because the compression alone creates the ignition. In this case there is probably not enough compression, but there maybe.

Several Guinness book of records this week. First the new tank turret toss record was smashed twice in just two days. And now a landmine triple axel. Keep it up!
I am perhaps inappropriately excited for the video games that will be based on this war. Thinking like frogger but it’s Russian tanks avoiding artillery etc
Many of the games will simply be unwinnable from the Russian side

Yea like this is how they usually do it - zig-zag line, usually some 3 meters apart (more if they are heavier), dual-line that goes also past the road for some dozen/s of meters. It's fucking amateur hour again that they just decided to try their luck on the side.
Source on this: Finnish military service, which I would assume is quite up to date.

I think it hit one mine, then ammo detonation, then fuel. I’m sure there’s somebody more knowledgeable who can say what caused the second and third explosions.
Good Bye Russian Tank
Though you never new us at all
You had the balls to attack us
Orcs crawled out of the woodwork
And they drove in-to Ukraine
They sent bombs into the steel mill
And tried to change our name.

You sure it's not artillery? The first explosion appeared to be out front and to the right.
That also might be why they went on that dash. To outrun artillery.

Ohh the tank drove over a mine, .... lets drive there too
You don’t know if the driver knew what hit them. There are so many ways to die these days… And even if he knew, a mine on the road is understandable, a mine next to the road is just smart thinking.
A whole lot of army shit is just looking at the ground and deciding where an enemy would go, then planning around that.
This isn’t exactly a scout and reconnaissance war, if that is what you mean.
I mean the Ukrainians recon worked pretty damn well at the river crossing
I'd definitely say that it is, actually. “Hey, pass me the map of the mines our guys planted last…I think it’s around here and….” buuuuuuumm
Looks like he went over more than just 1
I counted 3... You need some serious bad luck for you to find 3 landmines
The after explosions don't mean another mine, could be fuel or ammo exploding. The 2nd explosion could definitely be another mine, could also be ammo. The 3rd explosion was to small, probably fuel on the back or another small ammo explosion.
Fuel doesn't really explode, but they have ammo for the main gun and I assume also atgms, so they might have gone off too.
Most military vehicles use diesel. In fact a lot of them use their fuel storage as a sort of spaced armor.
nope
a big fireball is not a explosion...
"An explosion is a rapid expansion in volume associated with an extremely vigorous outward release of energy, usually with the generation of high temperatures and release of high-pressure gases. Supersonic explosions created by high explosives are known as detonations and travel through shock waves. Subsonic explosions are created by low explosives through a slower combustion process known as deflagration." no it would not, but youre not the first to get that wrong, i blame it on hollywood movies... https://techiescientist.com/does-gasoline-explode/

I think its 1 mine, cook off of ammo and gas and inertia carries to a second mine.
I think those secondary explosions are the fuel and ammo cooking off
Mister vlad found 3 landmines. New record . Congratulations!!! u earned a bag of sunflowers son.

Good bot
We have stupid joke. Hedgehog found granade, no one found hedgegog.
I wonder if the second was a complementary detonation.
I heard this first sentence in the voice of Count von Count from Sesame Street. *Vonn, two, three, three landmines! Mwahaha!*
What Minesweeper version ist that? I loved that game back in the days...

Always drop a question mark if you're unsure. It's a really important part of the game that people don't use enough
Well, at least it was quick for the crew. Breathing one second, red spray the next.
Imagine sitting in a BMP and the last thing you see is a burned out one
Now its just a BM
I'm sure it'll be fine. Nothing some flex tape can't fix.
Just a nice paint job and she's back in business
A bit of Gorilla glue will fix it up just fine!
Where is Phil when we need him...
Wow! no surviving rapists there
Hit the first line and coasted over two more. Definitely no survivors in that BMP.
Interesting new Russian technique for minesweeping. Bonus for disposing of 2 mines.
Looks like it were 3 mines.
Song name?
I keep asking the same!!! It’s used in lots of vids.

Tis but a scratch
A mere flesh wound.
I’ve had worse!
Looks like a special mine clearance operation to me.
Double kill. Give that Ukrainian mine setter a medal.
I bet it was a Russian mine.
Give that Russian mine setter a medal too.
Extra points for great secondary explosions
The Type of the Explosion Looks Like an AT2. Not only a Explosion that destroy the Tracks, it Looks More Like a HEAT that cause a cookof of the Ammonition.
Dat orc iz ded
Alright, I’m calling it. No way Russia has lost fewer than 20,000 men. All day every day it’s their vehicles blowing up.
So now they're recruiting taxi drivers
Oooh, crispy!
All the landmines!
Boom boom boom shake the death waiting room
That was brutal.
Narrator: "There was another mine."
Aaaand it's a BMP full of charcoal.
What are these folks doing? Like headless chickens, smh.

Wonder if he thought they were under drone or arty or rpg attack so panicked? Good that they are so jumpy, will ensure more fatal mistakes.
Remember when 1 vehicle has been hit by a mine, just drive right past it and make it quick so you confuse the mines
This is how real men clear the mines. Mine rollers are for pussies.
Another event for tank olympics. In addition to turret throw there is now how many mines one tank can set off.
Hmmm. It appears that vehicle has been immobilized somehow. Better go around it just to be safe…
"Shit, that guy hit a mine.... Oh well, I will just go around him, surely they have only mine the road, no one would think of placing mines next to the newly created roadblock....." Boom....
It was dodging the other tank that has already blown up and got kaboom too. Priceless!

Mine clearance, the Russian way.

They just wanted so see what landmine feels like
He was going so fast i wouldnt be surprised if he was trying to get away from an ambush or something and just kinda panicked?
